Okay buffet option - Edit
We were here on Tuesday for lunch and it was crowded. On a sunny day it would be nice to enjoy the terrace outside.

Also 2 dishes seemed off, I have a strong nose for this so also indicated staff. They checked it in the kitchen and the chef came to our table, saying it was fresh and we probably smelled the herbs. She let me smell the herbs but that was not the off scent I noticed. Thoughtful that they checked it.
That scent always puts me off a bit. But the food was okay. Quite expensive though to get a full plate.
Would go here again, as I like salads but would smell the dishes first.

Such a delicious selection of vegan salads and hot food with a beautiful garden ambience where we could relax and people watch on a sunny day. The vegan brownies were also lecker! The only con was the price- I paid over 20 euro for a plate of salad for lunch. I thought that was quite expensive.

Everything we tried was too spicy for our taste, it was quite expensive for the quality and quantity. The salad bar/ cold meals has many options but the warm food was not that diversified.

Read moreEs gab eine nette Auswahl, jedoch war vieles bereits leer und auch nicht aufgefüllt worden. Der Preis wird nach €/100g berechnet, was ich grundsätzlich erstmal gut finde. Allerdings war der Preis wirklich schockierend. Vor uns hat eine Frau für ihren normalvollen Teller 20€ bezahlt und für meine normalvolle mittelgroße Schüssel waren das 16€. Bei sattgrün zahle ich für eine große volle Schüssel 12,9€... In Freiburg gibt es keine sattgrün-Filiale, aber mal als Vergleich. Aufgrund des Preises werde ich hier leider nie wieder hingehen und lieber woanders essen. Auch schade, dass es nicht rein vegan ist

Adelhaus is set in a lovely square with lots of shady outdoor seating. The cake I had was yummy, and the lady who served me was very helpful and showed me all of the vegan cake options. However, the edge of the cake was too caramelised for me to bite or cut through.

Read moreYou pay by weight of your plate. It is a little bit expensive but you can really tell that it's all high quality food. Everything I tried tasted fantastic. My favourite was the vegan goulash and the pesto noodle salad.
Great place if you want to treat yourself!

Best lunch option for vegans and vegetarians - Edit
The sheer number of 100% vegetarian options make this the hands-down winner for lunch in Freiburg. I also suffer from intolerances to various things (gluten, lactose....) and there is a card on every buffet dish marking off which items contain such things (such as mustard, soy, egg etc). It's fantastic! I don't worry about having to ask anyone to check with the kitchen or ask a waiter tons of questions. Also, I like that you can choose a little bit of something and not be forced to a whole dish if you end up not liking it (admittedly rare here). So for me, this is the perfect option. There are great drink options too, so I usually have a soy or other non-dairy, caffeine-free coffee, or an organic beer (alcohol-free, gluten-free even) after lunch. If you like sweet things, they have cakes and such too, although I often too full. But I've had a good gluten-free chocolate cake there before.

They have two meals of the day (one vegetarian and one vegan). If that’s not for you than you can help yourself from the buffet (haven’t tried it but I’m sure there’s lots of vegan options) and you pay by weight.

I had such high expectations because of the reviews, but unfortunately, I did not enjoy the food at all.
Read moreFrom the eight dishes I chose from the buffet, I liked two, two more were ok-ish, and I did not like four. I only finished half of my plate because I could not eat more of it. Some of it was far too bland, but most was way too spicy, in an unbalanced and strange way (usually I like spicy).
Thus, I can only give three stars, although apart from the food I loved the experience.
The setting is amazing: The outdoor seating is located in a beautiful courtyard next to a church, there’s a fountain and a big tree, so it‘s just so relaxing. It felt like dining in the Mediterranean.
Moreover, the staff had reserved two tables for us, one inside and one outdoors, so we would have a table for both weather conditions and even go inside during the evening if we felt like it. How great is that!
The buffet is huge and there are so many vegan options. You can taste that it‘s all fresh and there are many unusual dishes that are not included in the average buffet.
So, all in all it could have been wonderful!
I must add that my husband wasn‘t a fan of the food, either, but he liked it better than I did.

Hier wird ein sehr umfangreiches Buffet mit warmen Speisen und Salaten geboten. Sehr gut abgeschmeckt und klar deklariert. Es ist belebt aber gemütlich und man fühlt sich sehr willkommen. Das Personal ist herzlich und hilfsbereit. Hier kann man schnell satt werden oder länger verweilen mit Kaffee, Tee und Kuchen . Eine Terrasse und Sitzplätze unter Bäumen bieten jederzeit Sonnenschein und kühlen Schatten.
In the Adelhaus you can get full and enjoy a coffee and a dessert.
A very extensive buffet with warm dishes and salads is offered here. Very well seasoned and clearly declared. It's lively but cozy and you feel very welcome. The staff is warm and helpful. Here you can quickly get full or linger longer with coffee, tea and cake. A terrace and seating under trees offer sunshine and cool shade at all times.
