Best food in Osaka! - Edit
5 stars (can’t rate above 4 if the restaurant is not fully vegan). Incredibly tasty, cheap, and friendly service. Kotomi is the best! I dream of the tofu soy nuggets.

a lot for little money - Edit
you get this whole plate for 1000¥ (3 tapas included) and it was really tasty! it’s a small izakaya with limited seating so i wouldn’t recommend it to 3 people! she prepared every meal freshly before your eyes (like it’s common in izakaya hehe) i also got the vegan and gluten-free chocolate brownie (without asking for the price before, so i was surprised it was 700¥ for this one piece ahhh 💀)

Amazing place! - Edit
Wow I really enjoyed their tapas menu. They have so many choices and the salad was delicious too. The woman owner runs the shop by herself which makes it more impressive. Note though that the place is rather small and there is not a lot of seating space.

Inventive and super delicious - Edit
Love everything I’ve tried here! The owner is so lovely and her dishes , especially cakes, are so inventive and insanely delicious. Ive eaten a lot of vegan burger before and this may have been my favourite ever, so full of flavour, a tasty bun and so many sauces. There’s also new items popping up all the time so there’s something new to try.

Delicious lunch meal! - Edit
All the food was really tasty! The lunch menu was rice with beans and salad with some tapas of your choice. I loved the tapas! each one of them had its own unique flavour. After the meal it was certain that I was going to return to this restaurant.

Jamaican fusion heaven! - Edit
Fantastic vegan lunch menu concept where you choose essentially a small medium or large serving with the extras/flavours of tapas of your choice! It’s all very clearly labelled furthermore the owner is happy to answer questions too. Everything I choose was deliciously bold with fusion flavours, fresh and fast to arrive from time of ordering. Can’t wait to go back again and try more.. all the desserts looked (and the one I had) tasted divine too!
Read moreGreat location, although VERY SMALL. It seats maximum 9 people and you need to squeeze your way in and out. B such a kind/friendly owner who does everything herself with passion for cuisine and great English! Also she’s great at responding to ‘are you open tomorrow?’ Facebook messages so don’t hesitate to ask before you go as she has sporadic catering days where she won’t be open for a regular lunch service.

Japanese Jamaican Fusion - Edit
Interesting concept! As a vegan, you could choose 3 out of 8 tapas and get an additional portion of rice. The owner recommended the fried avocado and it was indeed incredible. Nice and fun experience. The tapas were all very unique.

Best place for both vegans and non-vegans - Edit
Has a lot of different kinds of meals. Their main plate has a lot of amazing small dishes you can choose from and they have a different thing depends on which day you go. The owner is very sweet and speaks English too. Food is original. The only vegan friendly Jamaican oriented restaurant in the area (possibly in japan) Everything is awesome except for the bathroom. It's so weird. They don't have a sink so you have to use wet-tissues to clean your hands. Go use bathroom elsewhere before you come to this restaurant.

A great experience - Edit
I had a lovely lunch at Base Island Kitchen. The shop is cosy with indoor seating. I was impressed with the selection of Vegan food available. The preparation and presentation of dishes is very good, everything was fresh. The attention to detail in the Vegan Jerk Burger is astonishing. Every flavour works and is well thought out. Highly recommended.

A good variety to choose from - Edit
You have some basic menus, like a burger, sandwich-type or rice, all served with salad and then additional tapas, which make the variety. Everything we tried was good, I recommend it!

If you haven’t eaten a lot of Jamaican food before then I can understand why other reviews thought it was good. The dishes were nice but it was more on the bland/mild side - not to my taste but wanted to try the Japanese take on Caribbean food. In total ¥1,500 for rice and peas, salad, x4 tapas and 1 dessert.

The food and chef were amazing - Edit
Very cute and intimate place, the owner (also chef) was very friendly and passionate about vegan and conscious eating. The vegan tapas were amazing (deffinately try the nuggets). The price is good for 4 tapas with rice and salad is too much for me to eat. And I got amazing vegan GF cake.

Japanese Jamaican vegan tapas — what an amazing concept! You can choose among many mouthwatering tapas, which come with a salad, rice and beans, and a small beverage. Everything was delicious, and the owner is incredibly friendly and speaks great English. She was happy to recommend other vegan restaurants in the area, as well. Note that she’s currently on vacation — I believe she’s back in late June.

I love Base and come here often. The owner is friendly, caring, and genuinely loves cooking and creating interesting new menu items. I really like how you can choose from the daily a la carte ("tapas") menu to create a set meal depending on what you feel like. It's super affordable and really conveniently located.

Had a grew trip to Base Island Kitchen. I had the Veg combo menu which is rice 'n peas, side salad and then 4 vegan tapas. I chose jerk tofu, pumpkin croquettes, rice paper gyoza and pumpkin subji. And you get a mini drink too (chai, coffee, orange juice).

The owner speaks English and there is an English menu if you need it. The owner is also involved in organising various events locally, so a good place to go to find out about local happenings, and good people to support
Pros: Delicious food, Vegan and GF options, English menu
