Fine, wouldn't eat here again. - Edit
Got an entree, server did ask if I wanted egg when I specified no beef. Could not prevent the non vegan side dishes. Basically, if your omnivore friend needs to come here you will leave with a full belly but you won't have many options.

Cons: Few options

When I visited, I found that you need to tell the wait staff that you don't want vegan side dishes, and when they bring them anyway (which they probably will), tell them to take it away.

Very good vegan Korean options - Edit
The Vegetable Soon Tofu Soup was really good. And so we're a few of the little dishes that automatically come with every meal, such as the black beans, mashed potatoes, and broccoli. (Other small dishes aren't vegan, such as the deep fried fish, tofu strips, and kimchee.) You can order your meal from Mild through "Dangerous". I ordered Dangerous, which really was very spicy (no lie).

Tell them not to bring you fish + eggs - Edit
The name of this place gives the impression of it being veg-friendly. And it does have several vegan options that are clearly labeled on the menu, which goes a long way for my trust in a non-veg place.
Read moreBut after I ordered (of course a vegetarian meal where I said no beef broth, no fish sauce, no eggs, all “vegetarian and vegan” to make sure I was totally clear, I got up to wash my hands and came back to find a bunch of free or included side dishes already on the table. Included among the dishes were 2 fried fish (literally you could see the whole body of the small fishes) and 2 hard boiled eggs. The person I was eating with is not veg and just accepted the food, but he actually didn’t want it either. We ended up wrapping them up to put out on the street for someone so it wouldn’t go to waste, but this is apparently standard with the entrees we got, and the waitress didn’t think to not bring them or to check first when I was super clear about not eating those foods when I ordered.
The meal itself was good. I got the bibimbop. But be careful eating here to let them know you don’t want those things — or eat somewhere else.
Pros: Clearly labeled veg options , Several veg options, Food was fine
Cons: They bring you fish and eggs as free appetizers , Mostly meat on the menu

When I visited, the person who brought the side dishes was different than the waiter who took my order, and I had to repeat to that person not to serve me any non-vegan items (otherwise I would have been in the same boat as you were).

Koreatown food - Edit
This restaurant--part of a chain--lies within a tiny enclave of NYC known as Koreatown. The best places for vegan food by far in Koreatown (or nearby Koreatown) are Franchia and Hangawai. There are other places in Koreatown that sell some vegan dishes along with meat dishes, including this place. I got a tofu dish with rice, and they also give you some condiments (pickles, beans, kimchi, broccoli) for free, so the meal is quite filling. Make sure when you order that they know you want vegan food to avoid any mixups.
