Fantastic

All of the excellent reviews are no joke! Non-vegans took my husband and I here (visiting from out of town) as a celebratory dinner and everything was so, so good. I would go back for the asparagus alone!

Pros: All vegan

Hearty and Healthy

I had a couple of tacos and the seitan brisket on a bed of vegetables (from the specials menu). The food is hearty and healthy (lots of vegetables, legumes, herbs) but flavoursome too. Friendly service. All the wines are also vegan.

I’d go again.

Delicious Find

Candle recently moved to a bigger space in the same locale. However, this was my first experience and hopefully not my last. The all vegan menu was wonderful and the food delicious. The service was attentive but not overbearing. I would definitely consider them if I was having an event since they now have a private room upstairs. The restaurant space itself is lovely.

Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere

Underwhelming Thai food

Ordered the pad Thai, tofu skewers, dumplings and the drunken noodles and all were very underwhelming. Poor flavour, acidic taste and found a hair in our food delivery. Not worth the cost, can’t speak for rest of menu.

Fully delicious

I had the chickpea spiced cake & it was a delicious medly of flavors & ingredients (in the sauces & cakes). I also loved the (slightly upscale but) serene / comfy decor & jazzy covers of pop songs playing.

Pros: Delicious food, Atmosphere, Friendly staff

Absolutely scrumptious!

I have been visiting NYC for years and eating at all the Candles. I was so sad to hear that the owners had retired and they were closing, so I thought they were gone forever. But, I am so happy that wasn’t the case and the “new” Candle is awesome!!! The food is the same, wonderful, incredible cuisine that I always counted on and craved. All my favorites are on the menu and the new location is so easy to get to!

Check them out, if you haven’t ever and go back, if you’ve been missing this delicious food!

Pros: Consistently great food, Taking vegan to a very high gourmet standard, Imaginative dishes that always satisfy

Cons: I never have room for dessert

We came back to New York for Christmas, and we're thrilled to see that the people from candle 79 have now a restaurant called candle. The food is absolutely amazing! Friendly service, great atmosphere. A definite must go!

Flavorless food

Our order included the crepe, Aztec salad, spaghetti with bolognese sauce, and carnitas tacos. Unfortunately, every single dish was remarkably bland and completely lacked seasoning and salt. To make matters worse, the service was inattentive; the waitress never even bothered to ask if we were enjoying our meal. Based on the disappointing food and poor service, I would definitely not recommend or return to this restaurant.

Ordered the wrong thing?

Maybe I chose a weak entree, but I was underwhelmed with the seitan sandwich. Also didn’t love the fries dripping tons of grease.

The vegan icon of New York!

Was excited to try this place as I think was one of the first vegan restaurants in New York! I also have their holiday cookbook.

I had the seitan Cuban sandwich with side salad. Great texture on the seitan and was served with a spicy sauce.

Side salad had no dressing or seasoning, so not very appetising to eat.

Enjoyed it but was a little underwhelmed given how iconic this place is. Perhaps need to return to try something from the dinner menu.

Always delicious 🤤

Love the food here, it’s always good, delicious and fast. Used to be my fav vegan spot when it was uptown. Right near my Mom’s always visit when I’m in town, soups, desserts and specials. The polenta fries are delicious 🤤

Pros: Mocktails , Appetizers

Yummy!

We had a very good salad- Grilled Kale plus a side of salmon added was great! We also had the seitan dumplings, they were good, but not the best dumplings I’ve ever had. The dessert was delicious! Choc-PB Bliss lived up to the name! Good portions, but very expensive. Restaurant is cute, staff was friendly and helpful!

first and last visit

the two dishes i tried ('Wild Mushroom Crepe' and 'Drunken Noodle' from the NamasThai menu) tasted like something you'd put together from whatever you have in the fridge for a quick dinner, not something i'd expect to be served in a restaurant. granted, i would not be making a crepe, but nor did it seem like its contents had been purposely matched to the crepe itself. the noodles were badly overfried - all broken down into 1 inch pieces. the rest was fine.

Perfect lunch!

I started with the beet salad which was so fresh. I got the daily special, sweet potato latkes, which had exceptional flavors, it came with the smoothest apple sauce and creamy almond cheese. Everything was outstanding. The ginger tea was perfectly spicy.

A vegan legend reincarnated

Yahoo! Over the moon that Candle Cafe has been reincarnated! The food and selection are as delicious and creative as ever. The service is friendly, warm and attentive. Now they have a liquor license and serve beer, hard cider, wine & cocktails! They also have delicious mocktails, coffee, hot chocolate, and smoothies! They know how to make fabulous vegan food that is truly tasty and healthy simultaneously.

They have numerous appetizers and main dishes and a great selection of sides to create your own market plate with terrific innovative dressings. Candle has the best tofu and tempeh in the City.

And the prices for superb organic, vegan food are good.

Be prepared to be happy, satisfied and enchanted.

Really nice place to eat

Friendly staff, both the dishes I had were delicious with the exception of seitan, but I’m not a fan of fake meat. Everything else was terrific.

Spectacular!

I loved Candle Cafe and Candle 79 back in the day, and this Candle follows the tradition of veggie-forward, perfectly seasoned vegan food. The artichoke appetizer, Moroccan spiced chickpea cakes, cauliflower pizza, and pumpkin pie (on special) were all delectable, as was the Pinot Grigio I tried!

Pros: Lovely food, Lovely service

Good food

Tough deciding here. Had a couple tacos, 1 mushroom & 1 jackfruit. My fav was mushroom.
Had the paella, very flavorful and filling. Wife had the Cesar Kale salad. A unique part of that was the croutons.
