excellent, cannot wait to return - Edit
girlfriend and i went out to chuchai for dinner and had an excellent time. we didn’t branch out much with our order (she got pad thai and i got fried rice), but we did decide to try this excellent appetizer! i don’t remember what it was called, but it was puffed pastry with curried vegetables inside. our meals were also excellent. highly recommend. looking forward to returning

Tasty drink and good pad Thai!

The royal pad Thai came with vegan chicken shrimp tofu!! Flavor was great and it was fun to have some variety in the protein.

Delightful but pricey vegan indulgence - Edit
We were eager to try this place after reading the reviews, and overall, I think they were right on.
Read moreWe had the (from most to least favorite):
- Beef in 3-flavor sauce (Neua sam rod): 5/5✨ All around perfection! I would return for this dish alone!😋
- Crispy duck on a bed of spinach (Ped palo): Duck 4/5⭐️. It has a great crispy « skin » with sauce, but the interior could use more flavor. The spinach, however, was amazing! 5/5✨
- Cheesecake: 3/5⭐️ The taste was good, but as you’ll see from the photo, it was only just a few bites big.
- The Wonton soup (Kiao Nam) is what we liked least. The broth was bland and the inside of the wonton just tasted like more dough. 2.5/5⭐️
Overall, I would definitely recommend trying ChuChai when in Montreal, but do reserve a table ahead of time as it tends to be packed.
Pros: Beef in 3-flavor sauce, Lots of enticing variety
Cons: Expensive, Crowded

Vegan Duck is Phenomenal - Edit
The vegan duck is scarily reminiscent of the real thing. The texture is perfect, browned and chewy skin, tender and juicy inside. It isn’t quite as fatty as real duck, but it is close. The bed of spinach it lays on was the most delicious spinach I have ever had. There is a little garnish of cabbage too. But order another side and maybe rice to fill out your meal. The cucumber salad was ok, tasty but not as flavorful as I was hoping. I also got sticky rice, which came in the tiniest takeout box I have ever seen, which was perfect for one person.

Yummy vegan Thai food - Edit
The vegans and non-vegans I went with were very impressed! We started with appetizers to share, my favorite being the chicken skewers. I then had the chicken red curry with rice, which was also good but I’ve had better. The pad Thai with tofu, “chicken” and “shrimp” looked really delicious, and was a hit by the non-vegans who ordered it. They were particularly amazed by the “shrimp”. I’d try that next time. Overall great experience and service too.

I’ve been to Chuchai twice, the first time I had the duck which was one of the best mock meats I’ve ever had! This time I went for Mtl à table and got to try 5 dishes for a set price. The soups and the green bean & ginger chicken dish were so delicious.
Read moreThe atmosphere is upscale and cozy, the service is always great and fast.
The only drawbacks are that it’s a little pricey and the dishes are on the smaller side.
Pros: Amazing mock meat, Good atmosphere , Nice service
Cons: Small portions, More expensive

Excellent food and service - Edit
Every single dish is delicious, the only thing that exceeds it is the service. The staff literally running around and they make sure to bring you each course just after the last one finishes. Can’t say enough about this place. I’ve been coming here for years and it’s a highlight of my trip to Montreal!

Would go back - Edit
All the food was quite good. The dumplings we got tasted like chicken balls so that was something I haven’t had done well since before I was vegan. The pad thai here was the best I’ve had in years, (but that is also because vegan thai options around Niagara (were I live) are terrible). My favourites were the breaded crispy seaweed and the breaded crispy mushrooms. I could have just eaten bowls of those two haha. The highlight of our visit was a busser named Lorenzo, who was awesome and had better service than anyone else in there. Thank you chefs and Lorenzo!

Great vegan Thai! - Edit
We had a delicious meal at Chu Chai !
Read moreThe menu was huge and fully vegan !
However, they had a lot of processed type meat-substitutes on their menu. We would have preferred more tofu, tempeh, and or mushrooms. But it’s such a minor complaint for how good it was!
Definitely worth a visit if you like Thai!
Pros: So many great tasting Thai meals !

Great food, big prices, small portions - Edit
Chuchai never disappoints on quality. They've been around since forever as a major player on the Montreal vegan scene, for a good reason: their food is amazing.
Read moreI really wanted to leave a 5 star review, but my experience today after a few years away from town was a bit of a let-down. I took my food to go, and it's only once back home that I realized that rice was not included with my 20$ tofu dish... So I only had a small plate of tofu with sauce and spinach, and that's it. Taste was great, but I could easily have eaten twice that quantity, and I'm not even a big eater.
I should have ordered extra rice for a fee, but it was not clear on the website, and to be honest I expected it to be included, considering the price. Overall, I paid 43$ for a small soup (that was good), a smal bowl of tofu with sauce, and a dollop of tapioca pudding. I'm still hungry.
The culinary experience is great, but I'm afraid I can't afford this place anymore.
Pros: Food is great!, All vegan, even though the fake meats test belief!
Cons: Way too expensive for portion size, Rice not included!

The Thai food here is very, very good. Some of the best and most authentic Thai food I’ve had in a long time. However, be warned that you will need to order (and spend) a lot to leave without needing a second dinner… or a box of donuts from nearby La Beignerie😄
