Great vegan options - Edit
Common Well is a fantastic little fined! They offer plant based milk options and their Soy Chai Tea is the best one I have had so far, paired with a Chocolate chip vegan muffins was perfect for a little snack. I will be coming back to try their other vegan lunch options!

Just okay - Edit
I think if you like coffee and pastries this place would be really good. But I had the vegan burger and it was really dry and not really flavorful. Portions were quite small for lunch items.

Very limited vegan options - Edit
Ordered the two vegan entrees, a burger and pasta with vegetables. I caught them cooking the burger and bun on the meat grill, but they were gracious and instead cooked another one in a separate pan.

Solid breakfast option, esp in mixed company - Edit
Stopped by here with my husband who isn’t vegan. For breakfast, you can choose between 2 sets (one of which is vegan) or they have an array of baked goods for something a little smaller. The set comes with a bunch of things—some of which are kind of random for breakfast, but none of it made me sad! Happy and grateful to have a filling breakfast option before a long day.

The tofu bowl was underwhelming! - Edit
I was looking forward to trying something light in the tofu bowl but I was disappointed. The tofu was 4 small pieces and they were hard to eat as they were quite tough and the bowl itself was super small for the portion and price.

Good variety of options for breakfast - banana bread, muffins, soy yoghurt bowl and toast. Didn’t try the coffee. Reasonable price and friendly staff

Very good!👍 - Edit
The staff is so friendly and most of them speak English.

I ordered a chai with almond milk. Be sure to tell me them without honey.
I love that you can order chai, matcha, and hojicha latte here without sugar, which is almost impossible at other cafes in Japan.
The atmosphere is also very cosy. And they hot terrace seats.

4.3. They have a few options for small treats and a vegan breakfast. And the environment and service is lovely. For lunch they have an acai bowl!! Wish they had it for breakfast too

Not actually vegan - Edit
Be wary! I ordered the smashed avocado that was labelled vegan in the menu. It came with an egg and the toast was sitting on bed of tzatziki, so I couldn’t even eat around it. Very sad. My partner had the vegan burger and liked it (and that seemed vegan)

Wouldn't recommend - Edit
Got there at 3pm there was no food available other than a vegan burger which is a pretty regular not great burger with a Beyond patty or similar which I personally hate

Good if you're staying at the Kyoto Rings - Edit
The food is nice and there are a couple different options but the portions are small for the price. Convenient if you're staying at the three rings hotel and want a light breakfast or dinner close to base.

Solid breakfast option - Edit
We got the vegan breakfast plate (Joghurt with berries, cream soup with vegetables, plate with salad, cheesy broccoli, quinoa, chickpeas, meatballs, potato-thing). It’s not really enough to share, more like one bite of everything.

We also got the rice flour banana bread. Which was a little dry but not bad.

Would avoid - Edit
Only breakfast place I could find that was open. One option with a variety of different foods that includes a coffee with it. Wasn’t worth the price (2000 yen). Staff are nice though and is located near Nishiki market which is helpful.

Great burger and hotdog - Edit
The vegan burger and vegan hot dog were delicious. The small side of fries that came with them were hot and crispy. Really enjoyed the meal, even if the portion sizes were a bit small. Should have ordered more fries…

Would give 5⭐️ - Really nice cafe with good vegan options - Edit
Really nice coffee. Very VERY good service. So friendly and accommodating. The breakfasts are fantastic! If you ask for the toast (campagne style) with avocado, they will bring it out as smashed avo on toast. Just be sure to say that you’re vegan as it’ll come out with an egg if you don’t mention it. (1st visit mistake - you’d think we would’ve remembered after being vegan for many years…😆). We got it right by the 2nd and 3rd visits - yep, this place is that good, it’s worth returning to for such great food, coffees and service. (Did I mention the soy flat whites are AMAZING?!?)

Comfort Food Available Late - Edit
8.30pm on a Saturday is not a good time to find vegan options in Kyoto. Common Well was one of the few places still open. We got vegan burger, vegan hot dog and focaccia with olive oil. These were all good. The total bill including a main for my carnivore friend and drinks including a beer came in under JPY6000.
Read moreTechnically closes at 10 but kitchen 915-930. We had to order quick at 850 arrival to be allowed to eat in.
Burger and hot dog both nice and would happily eat again. Portions are small though so beware if hungry.

Good vegan burger - Edit
Good place if you want a quick snack. The restaurant has a small menue with 2 vegan options for lunch (burger, and smashed avocado on bread). We were there at lunch time and ordered the vegan burger with french fries. The burger was small but really delicious! The potato wedges were not my favourite (a little bit raw). They also serve a vegan coffee-banana smoothie which was great.
