A friend who eats gluten-free was coming to Lisbon, so to prepare for her visit, I went to Despensa to get some goodies for afternoon snacks, as well as breakfasts during her visit.
Read moreI was a kid in a candy shop looking into their display case! I am dairy-allergic, so when it comes to desserts especially, I usually (happily) eat vegan. The many tarts and muffins and chocolate salami found at Despensa all look scrumptious. I bought several. I also bought a loaf of oat bread with pumpkin seeds - I made a sandwich from that - it is on the heavy side, but does not have the grittiness sometimes found in gluten free baked goods, and overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit. I am looking forward to the lime tart - that will probably be part of my breakfast tomorrow.
Our friend ate a small quiche from there this morning - not vegan I am sure, but it made her gluten-free heart very happy.
Now that I know what a resource this cafe is, I will make it a regular stop on my food shopping trips. It is a little bit outside my usual travels, but close to a green line metro stop, so I will be back!

Nice gluten free pancake in this totally GF cafe. However, don’t be fooled by comments on various websites that they do GF nata - because they don’t!

Shame it does not have a vegan brunch, that would have been fantastic.
Friendly staff and a nice environment. Limited outside seating, may be full since it is in a central location.
