Maybe the non vegan items are ok but the vegan options were nasty - Edit
We gave this place another shot and it was awful! We went during the Sept vegan challenge and was totally disappointed in every vegan option we tried. Even our mocktails were bad. I won't be returning.

My husband and I went here since they have a few vegan options. We got the Pineapple Habanero salsa and guacamole to start. The salsa was different in that it was liquid (not chunky like I expected). Then we each got one Sweet Potato (subbed Cashew habanero crema for the cheese) and one Cauliflower taco. I expected them to be super impressive since they only have tacos but we felt like they were both lacking in some way. The cauliflower taco could've used some crunch and lime juice. The black beans and rice are both vegan and were good. Our cocktails were just weird. We got a Carta de Amor and a Midnight Mariachi and both were hard to finish. The service was great and the place is really nice, just isn't a place we would return to for a vegan meal.

New vegan items - Edit
This place got an award from the humane society for their vegan menu so I checked it out. The mushroom Tinga tacos and vegan ceviche are great. And their guacamole is killer too

Taco Tuesday - Edit
The vegan options were not labeled. We only found two, tacos with cauliflower and those with soy meat where veganized for us by leaving out the cheese. The place itself is cosy and nicely decorated but the food was only okay.

Cons: very few options

Nice food, but expensive - Edit
Nice food! I had the guacamole - but at $9 for about 3 tablespoons, it was very overpriced. The cauliflower tacos were good with some unusual flavours mixed in. It was taco Tuesday so it came with beans and rice. Drinks menu is extremely limited - they have mezcal & not much else. Overall was good, but I wouldn’t go back.

Great taqueria - Edit
This place serves meat but has two vegan taco options, sweet potato/black bean and cauliflower. They are very tiny street-style tacos, but they were delicious and the staff was excellent. They brought us tres leches ice cream (not vegan) for our birthday celebration. If you’re starving, maybe go somewhere with bigger portions; but the quality was great, the atmosphere was cozy and chic, and the staff were top notch.

Not kidding...the best guacamole of my life! - Edit
Let's just get this out of the way first and foremost: This guacamole is OFF THE HOOK. I have eaten a LOT of guacamole in my time (one could even say it's one of my favorite food groups😉), and this was by FAR the best. I'm likely going to go back just to get another dose of it before I leave New Orleans.
Read moreOkay, now that you know that the guacamole is a must-order, we'll talk about the tacos. I got one of the Sweet Potato Tacos (I left off the cheese since I'm vegan) and one of the Cauliflower Tacos (which is vegan as-is, since it has cashew crema). Both were flavorful and tasty.
The atmosphere in Espíritu is cozy, welcoming, and warm. I loved all of the plants, the local art (some for sale!) on the walls, and the fun wall paper. My friend and I enjoyed everything about our visit.
My friend and I found Espíritu kind of on a whim...we decided last-minute to go for some food, and this was the closest place that had options for me (a vegan) and for her (an omnivore) to where we currently were in the city. What a great, unexpected find!
And, just for the record, my friend seconds my opinion on the guacamole.
Run - don't walk - to Espíritu and order that guacamole NOW! :)
Pros: Best guacamole so far in my time on the planet, Reasonable prices, Wonderful atmosphere

???? - Edit
Thanks for the heads up that the “salsa” trio was vegan.
Read moreSalsa 1 is just cilantro and salt in a food processor.
Salsa 2 is the juice from a tomato paste can.
Salsa 3, supposedly the “hot” one, was melted mango sorbet.
Cooked, unseasoned cauliflower and a dash of tomato on a flour tortilla is not creative and also not tasty.
Sweet potato and essence of soyrizo with a dash of tomato is not creative or tasty.
The walls are suburban family, lackluster HoneGoods dia de los muertitos chic... and the half wall of white tile bolsters stick-on terracotta, which brings the whole low effort theme full circle.
Slow service.
Swerve this place, you’re in Nawlins...
Cons: What is non-vegan salsa

An interesting, creative meal - Edit
Very high quality, fresh food. I asked for vegan options and was given several suggestions.I had the salsa flight with chips, a cauliflower taco and a sweet potato taco minus cheese. The salsa arbol was amazing. You can tell that they take pride in their food.

Guacamole!!! - Edit
Had the best guacamole of my life. The sweet potato tacos were killer. We also had a few of the cauliflower tacos but they were a little oily for my taste. The flavor was really interesting though.
