my birthday dinner

〇Papardelle ($26)
〇Foccacia ($12)
〇Cream Brulee ($12)

✨Review✨
I had the Papardelle which is a wide, flat pasta with a rich, lasagna-like meat sauce. It was piquant and so delicious!😋 Foccacia came with a bright citrus tang and garlic and I loved it!
For dessert I had the Cream Brulee and it was like the creamiest custard ever. I am obsessed.😍 They even lit a candle for my birthday and it made me so happy!🕯
We also ordered fries on the side for a baby and they were so friendly and accommodating!👶🍟

Fine Dining! Exquisite Food!

Came here with three non-veg men as part of a client meeting and they couldn’t stop raving about good the food was! Flavor profiles are so pronounced and varied in each dish and it was such a great overall experience.

We ordered six or seven apps and dishes to share family style and we all left well fed and drooling with not a bite to spare.

Highly recommend if you are looking for a place that offers a dining experience to remember.

Amazingly Delicious Vegan Food!

A+ experience at Feral. Everything was outstanding and every bite was bursting with flavor and craftsmanship. Tomato Salad was such a gorgeous melange of freshness and complex sauces. Really well done. Savory Waffles and Peppers with Tofu "cheese" had this incredibly tasty backbone with each waffle bite and then the savory / sweet combo of the tofu and peppers with a little maple syrup. Tofu sandwich was a winner. Warm and crispy draped in this delicious sauce on a fresh bun. Had a few bites of the Chantrelles Pot Pie as well and it was quite good.

Feral is a must eat spot in Portland for any vegan imo. Nice interior space and lighting / decor. Staff was friendly and helpful. Most excellent experience.

Nice place for dinner

My partner and I made a reservation for our anniversary dinner. Plentiful portions (we ordered too much food) and reasonably priced for what you get. Some dishes we liked better than others. Wasn't a fan of the tofu sandwich, had an odd sauce. But the alfredo pasta was delicious! It's still fairly casual, but the atmosphere is darker and romantic. We will definitely be back for a nice dinner :)

Unique flavorful dishes

Went to Feral on a busy Friday night to enjoy fresh local cuisine, and it didn’t disappoint. The main pasta dish with lobster mushrooms was divine. The other entree, lions mane steak was also very good. We started with a cucumber on bread dish with a tofu spread - while the presentation was amazing, this dish was a bit lackluster.

Excellent evening fine dining experience

Feral has been on my to-try list for some time and glad to have finally been able to experience it. The interior is cozy-moody with dark wallpaper, wood, and dark metal details with enough light to see but not be too bright and uncomfortable.

This place gets busy, so reservations are recommended. Due to this, there is a 90-minute limit often, so plan accordingly.

Ordered the Summer Tartine with Zaatar, Tortelloni, and Lion's Mane Steak Au Cooper, in that order. Dishes came out one-by-one with about 10-minutes between.

The Tartine was well displayed and delicious, but more of a 4/5 rating for me. The tofu pate portion of the Tartine left a bit to be desired.
The Tortelloni on the other hand was amazing! It was exquisite in taste and texture. I wasn't sure what to think about the corn sauce it would be drenched in while ordering, but it hardly tasted like corn and blended with the rest of the ingredients well.
The Lion's Mane was also fantastic and mouth watering. I'm not much of a mushroom fan, but have been warming up to them and all the mushrooms in every dish were done really well.

The place clears out fast at closing, so if you come for a romantic late night meal (awesome date spot), you might be the last ones there past 10.

Overall, had a great time here and would definitely come back when the menu changes, which is often.

Pros: Cozy vibes, Exquisite tasting food

Cons: 20% service fee

Fantastic food

Can't wait to go back! Inventive tasty food, sorry no pics. There were 3 of us, ordered 5 share dishes plus dessert. It was a little much (even with one teenager), we could easily have gone for 4, if not 3, as plates got a little heartier as you went down the menu. (But will not be passing on creme Brule thank you) Had to try as much as we could though and was not disappointed!

Pros: Absolutely Delicious, No fake meats, Great atmosphere and very friendly staff

Cons: No cocktails, beer wine and mocktails only, Above was not really a con, but I was surprised

Locally-Grown Delectable Delights

I used to work with August at Harvest at the Bindery (RIP) and then both him and Ryan at Fermenter. They have taken the brilliance of those places with their deep appreciation of the quality of locally grown produce and made something brilliant. If you love rich umami flavors, combinations of ingredients you’ve never imagined, and palpable passion in your food craft, Feral is for you.

Pros: The maitake mushroom steak frites are heavenly , Seitan piccata is so richly crafted , All local produce prepared with care

Not just a meal, an experience!

My son is an amateur forager, so we had to give Feral a try. I'm so glad we did, because it was a delicious and unique experience.

In addition to their foraged ingredients, they are known for their cocktails. I ordered the blackberry seltzer, but was disappointed to learn they were sold out. So the bar tender asked me what I like and created a drink just for me.

The food is served family style. For a party of four, we ordered a beet and strawberry salad, a farro grain salad, asparagus with a cream sauce, pesto pasta, and grilled lion's mane mushrooms with lettuce wraps. When almost every bite of food had been devoured, I realized that I had not taken any photos of the meal. Here are photos of our empty plates, the lettuce for wrapping , and one last bite of lion's mane!

Highly recommend!

Pros: Unique menu, Helpful staff, Date night atmosphere & great 80's new wave music!

Cons: Need to provide serving spoons for family style

Feral

Feral is a farm to table vegan in the Alberta district.

I had the Morels bourguignon and polenta ($24) paired with the Napoli vino da seta rosso and this amazing Coffee ice cream spiced chocolate shell black sesame ($8)

Pros: Coffee ice cream with spiced chocolate shell , Morel mushrooms, Friendly bar staff

Cons: Mid range prices may be difficult for some

Love the atmosphere and changing menu

There’s new menu items all the time, making it exciting to come back and try new things.

It does make ordering a bit of a gamble though, so definitely ask your waiter questions like what’s popular.

The cocktails in my opinion are okay, but I don’t mind since they’re pretty inexpensive.

Creative and delicious

The interior is lovely and the menu was quite inventive. I enjoyed the tagliatelle but the crème brûlée stole the show for me.

I was kind of bummed having to wait an extra 20 minutes after the parties at tables on either side of me got their food to get my dish (we all came in at the same time right when the restaurant opened).

Fabulous and one of a kind

We’ve been to Feral twice, once for dinner and once for a special brunch event, and both times we had a memorable, delicious meal. It is unlike anything else in Portland with thoughtful, playful dishes. Whether it’s a fancy occasion or a dinner with friends, I highly recommend Feral. My personal favorite is the chips n dip but I’m from Minnesota so of course I love vegan dip!! Mocktails and other drink offerings are a 10/10 as well!!

Cuteee pretty good

Adorable spot and some cool creative dish concepts. Unfortunately for me several of the things we ordered were okay but kinda bland and I wouldn't get them again

Seitan schnitzel though.. 5/5 for me, amazing texture and love the herbs and capers. My partner thought it was too lemony but for me there's no such thing

We expected more

We made a reservation for dinner, which I recommend, as space fill up fast. We tried the grilled focaccia with black garlic butter, the smoky collard greens, the masa dumplings (chochoyotes) and the seitan schnitzel. The collard greens were absolutely amazing—smoky, tangy and the fried onions gave them a delicious crunch! The other dishes were just ok. The schnitzel was kind of tough to cut. The sauce on it was really good but there wasn’t enough to cover it. The dumplings also had a really flavorful sauce, but didn’t have much flavor themselves. The bread was a tasty sourdough focaccia but my partner didn’t like how it had been cut (sliced from the top but now the whole way so you had to awkwardly tear it, but it didn’t tear through the crispy bottom). Overall the food was okay, but we expected more. We might give them another chance in the future. But for fine dining, I would recommend Astera.

Edit: My partner says the crème brûlée was really good though!

Trap Neuter Won't Return

We didn't have a reservation, so there was only bar seating available. I don't mind sitting at a bar, but our view was a cardboard box and a bucket with fruit flies on the cover.

The Chicory Salad included apple slices, shaved white vegan cheddar, parsley, and pear and quince vinaigrette. At first, I was confused why it was served with a knife. I quickly realized the knife was necessary because the chicory was not cut up. It was annoying and cumbersome to try to cut it in the small bowl. I liked the flavor of the cheese, but there was too much smothered on top of the salad. I also liked the dressing, but it couldn't mask the bitterness of the chicory. Overall, not for me. However, my partner enjoyed the Hot Kimchi-Fried Tofu Sandwich.

Note: A 20% "service fee" is automatically added to the bill, but there is still a line to leave a tip.

Tip: Make a reservation.

Pros: all vegan

Cons: 20% "service fee", pricey, parking

Well, that was probably the best meal of my life

I’d heard of Feral’s reputation as one of the best vegan spots in Portland, but I wasn’t prepared for just how good it all is.

Every item on the menu (my group tried nearly everything, lol) was delicious and stood out with a unique flavor profile. The drinks and desserts were creative and so tasty. The vibes inside the restaurant were lovely, too: it all had a thoughtful and inviting feeling without any pretense.

I’ve been vegan for more than a decade and, honestly, this was maybe the best dinner out I’ve ever had. Truly amazing. We’re so lucky to have this place here in Portland.

Pros: Dynamic, seasonal menu, Complex flavors across uniformly delicious dishes, Wonderful, kind staff

elevated dishes

this was my first time at feral, very nice atmosphere and kind staff. The location is very cute and the options are diverse and tasty. Do not skip dessert—the crème brûlée was fabina. My table got the grape toast, tofu skewer (our favorite), ricotta cavatli, crème brûlée (dessert favorite), and cheesecake.

Best restaurant ever!

Everything is delicious and fresh. We’ve been here maybe a dozen times this summer, for dinner and brunch, and almost every meal has blown our socks off (the singular exception being the coffee at brunch, which is just okay for someone who prefers a 70:30 ratio with oatmilk). The non-alcoholic cocktails are INCREDIBLE! The atmosphere is cozy and romantic, but without being too self-important. Best for smaller parties - might be okay with a large (6 ) crowd if you plan ahead and reserve. Walk ins for 1-2 people are easy - we’ve never had to wait more than a few minutes without a reservation… though we usually go late (and they might run out of some dishes). The people are such a delight and service is top notch. Can’t recommend enough!

Pros: All the foods!, People, Mocktails

Absolutely go here!!!

The ambiance is a fun amount of elegance without feeling fussy or stuffy, the people working there are super nice and helpful, and OMG the FOOD is just mind-blowing. The cocktails were excellent, too. We went for a special dinner and were so impressed with every dish we had! We had the Bread & Tomato salad; the Berries, Beets, and Basil; the Chilled & Salted Cucumbers with Ajo Blanco; the Fettuccine with Eggplant & Chestnut Mushroom; and the Raspberry Butterscotch Scoop. We wanted to try the creme brulee, but unfortunately they ran out. The dessert we had was great, though. We loved this place so much that we recently returned for their brunch! The brunch did not disappoint. We had the Deep Fried French Toast, the New Potato Hash, and the Summer Benedict. It was all incredibly good, especially the benedict. I feel like this place should be winning awards with how delicious, creative, and unique everything is.

Pros: Truly incredible food, Great ambiance, Very sweet and helpful staff
