Cool vibes - Edit
Really enjoyed my entire experience there last night. Cool California beach decor, young hip atmosphere, DJ playing dance music, nice lighting, the whole package. We ordered the chef selection sushi set and a crunchy mushrooms salad, both were beautifully presented and delicious. They have a cocktail bar and a smoking outdoor balcony, I didn’t try either but definitely see the value. Highly recommend overall, just a little too pricey to be a place I would frequently go to, more like a special occasiono kinda place.

Excellent - Edit
Creative and fulfilling. The rolls (WTF, Spider and Baja) were amazing flavors and the Spider was a great remake but without crab. Cool cool spot, too.

Unhealthy through and through - Edit
Pretty much the worst plant based sushi I ever had. Everything comes with super unhealthy sauces or is deep fried and lacks flavour otherwise. If you like pub food, you will enjoy it. I didn’t.

The best sushi - Edit
The sushi here was delicious. My favourite was the mango crunch roll. It was so tasty and crunchy. The tator tots were good, I liked a few of the nigiris but there were two with mushrooms on that I wasn't a huge fan of. The wtf sushi with satay peanut was great (it's like a chefs special so the filling changes daily) and I liked the yuzu and tempura pepper one but it was a little bitter. I really enjoyed the watermelon tuna make your own sushi.

Really good Vegan Sushi - Edit
Original spiced and unique tastes. I tried quite a few vegan sushi restaurants around the world, but this one is the best so far.

A bit disappointing - Edit
I really wanted to like Golden State as I love vegan sushi places, but we left feeling distinctly underwhelmed. Although the food we ate was good, it has two lose two stars for the following issues:
Read more1. The restaurant sits underneath a cannabis bar and smelled strongly of cannabis. It made the whole experience a bit unpleasant.
2. We ordered a sushi platter - it was very tasty, but took over an hour to arrive from the kitchen after our other food had arrived.
Overall, I would not go back. If you decide to eat here, I'd recommend ordering several small dishes instead of a sushi platter - maybe you'll have more luck with things arriving than us.
Pros: Good sushi, Nice vibe
Cons: Long wait, Smell of cannabis

Experienced issues due to freezer problem - Edit
We came to this place the day after songkran, during which they’d been closed for 4 days. When we got there they said they’d had an issue with their freezer during that time and that it might take a couple of hours before they could serve. They then said they could serve is quicker than that, but once we sat down they said there’d be no avocado. They didn’t really communicate that this would mean there’d be an issue with ordering most of the sushi from the menu. Only after we’d been waiting for ages to order did we ask them and find out that more things were not possible, such as their main hot meals and other ingredients that it seems might have gone off during the process. Communication really could have been improved. We ended up having to order from a limited selection of sushi and small plates, and because of the avo shortage we ended up with 3 very similar sushi rolls. The food was nice enough but we found the overall experience quite disappointing. Of course the freezer issue is not their fault but it would have been much better if they had told us firmly at the beginning that most of the menu would not be possible to cook and so we shouldn’t eat there. We were short on time so if we’d known that we would have gone somewhere else. After we’d ordered our stuff, they came back to tell us certain things were not available (ie they’d probably gone off) so we had to change our order again. I think this was a unique situation and I imagine normally this place is great, but for us, given the price of the food, it was not worthwhile.

Delicious but a little pricey. - Edit
I came here with the Vegan Meetup group. It is a cute little place. The service is good. I thought the waitress was very understanding with my food allergies. I'm allergic to almost all cooking oils.
Read moreThey use palm oil, sunflower oil and sesame oil, all of which I am allergic to, and she made sure there would be none in my food.
I ordered the Red and Green Dragon Roll (half of each) without the sriracha mayo. It was very very good. If you are a vegan and you miss sushi, I recommend coming here to satisfy your sushi cravings.
I also ordered the Lychee Martini Mocktail, which was also very good. For the sushi dish and the drink, it was 718baht.
I already ate a lot before coming but if I only had that one dish and drink, I would still be very hungry.
Pros: Delicious, Friendly staff
Cons: Price

Mostly tasty but stupidly expensive - Edit
The sushi is tasty enough and prepared well, but my favorite thing ordered was the crab cakes. The lotus chips were awful: they were flavorless other than a slight burned taste. My partner ordered a sauce just to eat them as they weren't even seasoned.
Read moreI think the key to eating here is to order right, and in doing so, don't be influenced by some of the 'recommended' dishes. They offer much less bang for your buck (such as the chef's special platter at over $30 for 16 small pieces). I wish we had ordered the largest platter of 32 pieces instead.
In any case, we paid $100 for 3 cocktails and food which I find way too expensive compared to other vegan restaurants here and especially for the quality and quantity given. A 10% service charge was added too and tax I guess because we paid about 200 baht more than we should have (my partner didn't receive a receipt). The sushi pieces and serves of all the dishes were tiny. Some flavors were bland. I had high hopes for this place and left quite disappointed and ripped off.

Best sushi - Edit
The restaurant claims to have the best vegan sushi in Bangkok. Having tried a number of other vegan sushi places, I have to say they’re not wrong. This is the only place I can find in Bangkok producing vegan sushi that could really solidly pass for non-vegan sushi, complete with vegan caviar. Expansive menu gave me decision anxiety but I needn’t have worried since everything was delicious. We went on a Thursday eve and it was empty, and I couldn’t understand why.

Classy joint with delicious food - Edit
We walked a long way to get up this place so I’m happy to say it turned out to be worth it. The space is bright and interesting and the staff were welcoming and accommodating. We started off with a couple of cocktails. I didn’t feel like lollywater so I ordered a black pepper citrus gin, which was suitably biting. I was surprised at how good the side dishes were. The yuzu cashew chicken was divine and the garlic rice was absolute delicious, both with plenty of umami not overshadowed by sweetness. The sushi was a taste-sensation with sharp and savoury flavours contrasting nicely. The udon was tasty and filling. It was accompanied by an interesting rice cake and half an egg that was reasonably convincing visually but not gustatorily, with a watery coconut taste. A very nice and slightly fancy place with a lot of class, and worth a visit even if it’s not in your neighbourhood.

Wow! I am a huge fan of plant-based sushi and have one favourite back in Cologne (MakiMaki) which sets the bar quite high.
Read moreGolden State is all vegan and in a beautiful setting. Interior and design is cozy / romantic and service is professional.
I can highly recommend the cocktails as well
The California Sour was dreamy. Great taste with a vegan creamy foam on top.
Wasn’t too strong, so if you can’t handle alcohol well you can still order it. They also have some Happy Hour (best look on their website).
I loved the chef’s selection as well! 16 pieces of goodness. The nigiri and 4 deep fried crunchy rolls were outstanding
Everything did not only look pretty, but was delicious. Hard to pick a fav, but maybe the mushroom nigiri (also fried haha) was super crunchy and delicious. But honestly every piece was great
The caterpillar was a great and refreshing roll with avocado
They also have some great starters like Szechuan tofu, Yuzu fried tofu or Satay like tofu. Everything is fresh and I understand why they’re award winning now!
Pros: Everything , Atmosphere and staff, Great quality

Honestly, the sushi was quite bland and average. I don’t think the value is there with the high prices. I did have two mock tails that were decent. I’d opt for other sushi places over this one.

kind of a letdown (unseasoned sushi rice??) - Edit
I ordered 4 things and only really liked 1.5 out of 4 of them. It was really expensive for everything not to be really good. The reason I say 1.5 things is because I ordered the dessert and they didn’t have ice cream to go with it as the menu advertised. I asked if I could get it at half price and they said no, but gave me 2 slices of the cake. I was kind of in shock at how small it was.
Read moreThe sushi roll was okay, but the rice was unseasoned and bland. The mocktail i got was interesting, but a bit too sweet. The “chicken” was hands down the best thing.
I kind of got sucked into getting the noodles because of the egg on top, but it didn’t taste like egg and seemed like it was made out of coconut oil or something. Not good.
All in all maybe I would go back with a group, but probably not alone.

Really cool place with interesting menu. We ordered the sushi party platter and it was average sushi with too much sauce. It felt like it was just covered it mayo and sriracha. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing and there are better things to try. Would love to go again and try something different
