Not sure I would go back - Edit
As others, have said nothing like Lotus Pond sigh.
Read moreI ordered the ginger fried veggies. They had a nice strong flavor but felt quite plain without a tofu addition.
The green onion pancake for 8$ is a joke. It's a very thin filo pastry with the slightest taste of green onion, the size of your palm. The price for such a small side which is mostly filo dough is crazy.
I also got the vegan Hunan hot pot which again was basically veggies with some cashew thrown in. I was expecting some noodles or tofu but no. It was also swimming in sauce, which I usually wouldn't complain about, but it was very strong. Quite literally veggies soaking in hoisin and soy sauce basically. Wasn't spicy AT ALL but I didn't mind that. If I hadn't paid for it, I wouldn't have wanted to eat it.
Cross-contamination wise, I feel the food had a little bit of that non-veg taste. Nothing severe but in some bites I could taste it. I always worry about that when I eat out at non-veg restaurants but this place wasn't so bad considering.

Made me ill - Edit
With Lotus Pond closed, I saw a lot of people recommending this as an alternative. I tried some take-out recently and service and ordering was good but the food does not compare. Singapore noodles with the curry powder not evenly spread and largely flavourless. Greasy mapo tofu, loads of oil coming off it. So so fried rice. I'd say maybe I ordered poorly but I was quick to the bathroom after eating.

Pricy but high quality - Edit
J&J is widely considered one of the best in the city for a reason.
Read moreOur family order a few times per year and so far our favourites are: ginger and onion chow mein (if ordering the vegan chow mein online or through tutti you still have to specify rice noodles or they give you egg noodles), cashew tofu (with ton of cashews - they don't skimp!), sweet and sour fried tofu, steamed bun, ginger fried tofu (ask for it to be mild and it truly is mild!). I've liked most dishes I order from them. Although they are very expensive, the flavours of the sauces are superior to anything else I've tried in Vic so far. The shanghai (thick) noodles come with lots of shitaake mushrooms so if you like the flavour so mushrooms I would suggest ordering this dish with thick rice noodles to make it vegan.
JJ has a vegan menu but always double check that the noodles or fried rice does not contain eggs. They also have a gluten free menu although I'm not sure how reliable it is because I've never dined with a gluten-free/intolerant person.
They are very accommodating for those of us with FODMAP restrictions (for me this is garlic) and can make most dishes to order.
Pros: Large menu, Vegan, veggie, and GF options, Accommodating of allergies and intolerances
Cons: Expensive, Restrictive hours (closedseveral days of the week)
