disappointed - Edit
On my trip here I got the cosmo knots ($6), side of mac (6), and the memphis bbq jackfruit. The cosmo knots were just okay and the mac had no flavor to me or my partner (we were told the jalapeños would provide a kick yet we tasted nothing, i think it would improve with some seasoning). The jackfruit sandwich wasn’t terrible but I wouldn’t get it again. The soy curls were definitely the best part of the entire sandwich. It also came with few bbq chips which were pretty standard.

One of the Best - Edit
The atmosphere is hard to explain, charming starts to get there, but maybe only 25% of the way. The food, however, is simply awesome (by any standard) and it’s vegan!

Vegan Food, Drinks and Metal! - Edit
Kindred is one of my favorite places in the country. From the food, drinks and the attention to detail in the design and atmosphere, Kindred is always my first stop when in san diego. I'm not sure what's better the dinner or the brunch so be sure to try both. I fully recommend the seitan skewers.

Unique!! - Edit
This place super unique. We stopped in on a Saturday morning to catch their breakfast menu (only on weekends) we were greeted right away and taken to a really cool table. It was small and we typically order a lot of food so we actually ended up switching to an even cooler table (all the tables in this place are really neat!)
Read moreThere were fresh flowers throughout, lots of really interesting gothic decor (but not too gaudy) everything felt very fresh, clean and open. Our server was super sweet. We ordered the French Toast, the Pancakes and the Hash dish. Everything was really great except the French Toast - just totally missed the mark on that one. We also each had a coffee ☕️ didnt realize until after we got the bill that they aren’t free refills 😂 overall we do recommend a visit - you’ll enjoy this place! We are looking forward to another visit before leaving the San Diego area :)

Brunch was awesome ! - Edit
Music is a tad loud for first thing in the morning for this old lady, lol! The food, though, I'll put up with it for the food!!!! Breakfast sandwich was amazing. So many little flavor details, you can tell the chefs love what they are doing. The blueberry pastry with lemon cream -- oh my goodness, I could have eaten 10 of them!

Best Vegan Brunch - Edit
I keep meaning to come here for dinner because their regular menu is mouthwatering, but I keep returning for brunch because there's nothing else like it anywhere. With one exception, everything I've eaten here has been outstanding. It's hard for me to choose between two standouts: the tofu benedict and the banana pancakes. The tofu benedict has two of the most perfectly firm slices of tofu that have been breaded with a crispy exterior, on top of two English muffins halves and covered in the most delicious Hollandaise sauce (not sure what's in it!). Plus kale, tomato, and seitan (optional avocado for a fee). I could eat that every weekend! The pancakes are decadent -- perfectly fluffy with phenomenal toppings (caramelized bananas, walnuts, maple, coconut whip, and butterscotch sauce).
Read moreA new addition to the brunch menu is the breakfast strudel. I got the cinnamon strudel, which tasted exactly like a cinnamon roll only in a different format. If you're already getting the pancakes, the strudel might be a bit much. But the last time I went, I had the tofu benedict and split the strudel with my companion, and was in brunch heaven.
Everything I've stolen from other people's plates has been great. I was particularly impressed with the "crushed potatoes" I sampled from my companion's B.F.S. (I can't remember what that stands for). It sort of tastes like fried mashed potatoes, but I'm not sure -- I've never had anything like that before.
The only disappointment was the sourdough French toast, which replaced their fabulous banana bread French toast. The new (but not improved) French toast wasn't as good as the menu made it sound, as the maple tahini cream wasn't actually a topping but part of the bread itself. I wasn't expecting it to be so dry.
If you can get here right at 10 a.m. you can be seated right away, and street parking isn't too difficult on weekends. Someday I will come here for lunch or dinner, because if their breakfast is this good, their other food must be just as mind-blowing.
Pros: creative options go beyond the typical vegan fare, giant demon head
Cons: only open for brunch twice a week

Ah....MAZING!!! - Edit
We, family of four, showed up the Monday evening before Christmas and were greeted by an awesome hostess whom was super informative on the best items on the menu. Pretty much everything btw. Starters were great! Meals were even better. The bar did an amazing job with the holiday drinks and I couldn’t believe how fast the drinks arrived (well before the starters even showed up, and the starters were super timely as well). The Dip is a must!

Loved all the drinks we tried. Had the jackfruit sandwich, which was amazing. The restaurant has an edgy yet soft vibe that is different but works really well. Not sure if they take reservations but they get busy at night. First couple hours after they open is the chillest time to go.

MUST HAVE - Edit
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE you have no idea what you’re missing if you haven’t tried it! I went to dinner and had two cocktails and had their version of a charcuterie board THAT YOU HAVE TO TRY I have literally never had such an amazing charcuterie board even when I wasn’t vegan! I loved it so much I went back the next day which was Sunday and I had their brunch which was equally as delicious! Every time I am in San Diego I make it my goal to come here for a meal, I can’t recommend this place more! Please drag your friends/family here, I promise it won’t disappoint!

Soul Crush! - Edit
I LOVE this place even though I often dislike some of its characteristics when I encounter them elsewhere - tiny tables very close to others, more noise than I usually like, a bar-dominant scene. The food is stellar, with lots of creative options. Soul Crush is my fave "comfort food-gone-upscale" plate (cornmeal crusted Gardein, parsnip potato mash, broccolini, creamy beer mac, tomato lemongrass velouté). The cocktails are super-creative, featuring ingredients not likely part of your home bar (ancho chile liqueur, charcoal, fennel dust, Xocolatl mole bitters...). Sitting at one of those tiny tables with one bentwood chair and one small, wood-wrapped bench, watching the gorgeous bar and lively scene, makes for a truly immersive experience, much more than "just" a great dinner and drink.
