Our first meal in San Cristóbal. We ordered off the menu, and got a vegan burger. It was so filling and delicious. It also came with apple slices which was a nice touch. Highly recommend!

Delicious!! - Edit
The food was delicious but I went three times and half of the vegan options were always unavailable! The locale is beautiful and there is often live music! A little pricey but worth it! The tamales are delicious!!

Good vegan options - Edit
I went few times at this place because they had a lots of vegan options. I had the tamales and they were delicious, another day I got the chilaquiles (I asked to sub the eggs to mushrooms and it was amazing) and another day I got a hot chocolate with macadâmia milk. Also the place has a good atmosphere! Service it’s good too

Very impressive - Edit
We had a wonderful meal here tonight. We had no issues selecting vegan options, and everything we ordered was delicious! Particularly the mushroom tacos, and the house salad which had fresh, caramelised beetroot. The service was flawless. The interior was gorgeous, and there were some musicians playing beautiful music. We couldn’t have been happier!

Nice place, vegan food only OK - Edit
La Casa del Pan is in a very atmospheric and beautiful building with very nice and helpful staff. Unfortunately, my food was only OK. I had the Portobello Burger. On another occasion we had some coffee and cookies there – most of the baked goods were only vegetarian except for the cookies, at least on the day we were there. And while they have a wide choice of plant-based milks, the coffee itself wasn’t very good! Had the overall impression that this place is trying more to attract vegetarians than vegans, which is a pity.

Nice place, good food - Edit
Nice restaurant in the main street, easy to find and with a very nice ambience: the patio is lovely and the music is not loud. Lots of vegan options, well cooked and presented. Plant base milk, vegan bread, vegan cheese! Price is fine, not cheap but not expensive either.

Quite nice - fairly standard veg*n place but expensive compared to others - Edit
I had the menu of the day whcih consisted of a vegetable soup (fairly average and a bit bland but came with some nice bread with some dips), a mushroom hot pot type dish (very tasty), and an assortment of fruits for desert (OK - just fruit). It also came with a pineapple water (which had not been sugared and I appreciated that). Not well nutritional balanced in my opinion - lacking solid proteins.. I took away a chocolate cake home with me and that was nice. Overall the menu was 120pesos ($6), plus 30pesos ($1.50) for the cake, which is quite expensive compared to other places I've been too in the area, and their buffet in the day, which I didn't have but the price put me off the place the first time I went there, is 170pesos ($8.50) which is really a lot for the area. It is really a kind of mainstream vegetarian restaurant so it is a safe option but less interesting than other places I'd say. On balance average and I don't need to go back.

Had the fruit and oatmeal for breakfast and it was ok. It came separately and would’ve been better mixed together in my opinion. The hot chocolate was nice and the Mexican vegetarian food my friends had was good as well.

Very nice restaurant with local as well as international food. There is also a shop where you can buy organic food, vegan supplements, nice bread, natural medicine and much more. Furtheron in the back of the building you can find a little cinema and a yoga studio that offers classes for 65 pesos.

Delicious vegan Buffet - Edit
This place is incredible! We love it. They offer a vegan organic buffet (salad bar, soup, rice, frijoles, homemade bread, fresh drink) every day from 1:30 to 4:30 as well as a daily menu which you can combine for only 155 pesos. You can also eat just from the buffet. Everything is fresh and delicious. We came a lot here because it's really worth the money, especially if you are hungry! Staff is super friendly! We highly recomend it! :)

Not great - Edit
We tried it twice, the first for juice and guacamole (good), the second for dinner: puttanesca pasta and quesadillas (just ok). When I asked about vegan deserts (there were quite a few listed on the menu), none were available.

Great wholegrain baguettes & quesedillas - Edit
We didn't visit the restaurant but liked to buy wholemeal baguettes, avocados, salad and mango chutney from the organic shop and make our own lunch. We couldn’t resist the quesadillas they were cooking up fresh out on the street. They were delicious so definitely stop for some if you see them.

Great mexican breakfasts - Edit
I went here for breakfast and it was absolutely delicious. After going here for breakfast I came back the next day too. Everything on the menu is vegetarian and a few of them can be made vegan also. Unlike some of the other vegetarian restaurants in the city, the food was largely authentic mexican cuisine although they offered tofu with a lot of the dishes to make them vegan (instead of eggs). It was the best mexican vegan food that I had in Chiapas. My dad whom is an omnivore also loved their breakfasts. They have an english menu.
Read moreThere is also a bread shop and smoothies available. There is a shop upstairs that sells a lot of local crafts, coffee, tea, natural beauty/hygiene products, zapatista art and literature, and handmade metalwork as well as a couple mexican cookbooks (some in both english and spanish). Definitely a restaurant to check our if you're in San Cristobal.
Pros: good service, large vegetarian menu, diverse
Cons: Not open for dinner :(, not as many vegan options as vegetarian

Vegan breakfast galore! - Edit
I came here just to buy some bread for breakfast in my hostel, glanced at the menu and ended up staying for a meal, just because there were so many vegan options! I had the Tofu y chives which was so good and came with coconut 'bacon', fried mushrooms, avocado, tomato and a coffee, plus a choice of whole grain bread or tortillas. I thought it was good value as that all came to 83pesos! The bread was good, similar to rye but there were some spice seeds baked into the crust(aniseed?) which I disliked.
