Disappointing Experience (+ Tasty Cake)

Maya Moon is primarily vegan and offers an extensive menu of cacao drinks, food, and desserts. My boyfriend and I stopped by one morning and ordered carrot “lox” toast, chocolate pistachio cake, Mexican sol drinking cacao, and golden drinking cacao.

We decided to try the “drinking cacao” since they were out of hot chocolate by 10 am. While the reviews rave about it, we found that it wasn't our taste. The drinks were bitter, which is fine in theory, but it almost felt like bitter-flavored water to me. I should have asked more questions. I asked about the milk used, and was simply told, “There is no milk,” which took me off guard, and I didn't know how to reply. That was my fault, but since I wasn’t expecting a water-based drink, I was more confused about my order. The drinks were $14 together, and we didn’t want to waste them, so we drank them quickly and agreed not to try “drinking cacao” again.

The food was better. My carrot lox wasn’t the best, but I finished it. The chocolate pistachio cake was really good and the best part of our visit. Although I personally wouldn’t return, others might enjoy it more if they like drinking cacao and this vibe. Despite spending $50 and feeling disappointed, it could be worth a visit if this is your kind of thing.
