Great food and exceptional pleasant service

Mayka is a very nice, nearly 100% vegan place. We were served by two nice, authentic people who were very friendly and helpful in making a decision. Mayka has a pretty extensive menu. I had a good ms. Piggy burger which tasted great. Also they serve a quite good range of drinks. I had two different local beers from Belgrade.
I had the meal outside, but upstairs is a very nicely decorated area where you can eat as well. Whenever you are in Belgrade and if you like vegan or vegetarian food, I highly recommend to visit Mayka for great food. We did not have any salad, but it seems they have next to the burgers, curries and other dishes also a good selection of salads.

Pros: Good taste, Friendly service, Local beers

Proper handmade seitan burgers

Quirky cafe/restaurant with outdoor and indoor seating. Smoking area upstairs.
Lovely local beer. Appeared to be run only by one gentleman who took orders and did the cooking too and one bar person.
Menu was salads, burgers made from seitan (homemade) and homemade sauces vegan or veggie.
Tasty food and plenty of it. Too full for puddings

Pros: Virtually all was Homemade , Quirky

Vegan cevap!

What can I add to previous reviews, other than to say that it's all true!

Super relaxed location off the main thoroughfare, really interesting interior, cool/calm seating out the front, amazing food prepared with genuine care, and the cat in its rightful place on the throne. What more do you need?

I was really hoping to come across a vegan ćevapčići, and this certainly didn't disappoint - complete with homemade vegan cheese.

Pros: Huge, huge menu with traditional Serbian options, Most genuine service imaginable, Great location

Favourite place we went to in Belgrade!

This is one of the best places to try veganised versions of local food in the city! Lots of the ingredients (including the seitan and vegan cheese) are handmade in the restaurant, and lots of the vegetables are home-grown. It was the best vegan ćevapčići we tried in Belgrade!

Extraordinary!

Mayka is nothing but extraordinary!
You feel like entering a living room, and the first floor offers one of the most cosiest seating I have ever experienced on a restaurant.
The food is homemade, slowfood, and really delicious.
The staff is lovely and food-passionated.
And they have s cat!! :)

Pros: Great food, Cosy, Cat

Real home-made food

Very wide range of options on the menu, loads of burgers, salads and curry for example. Healthy things and comfort food, all made in house apparently.

Family run business and you may feel like your mum is cooking for you, in a good way. A bit chaotic and cluttered inside, but seems clean. Outdoor seating is the best option I think.

Pros: Organic red wine (local), Burger, Potato wedges

Can recommend!

We ordered a zucchini and chickpea curry and a serbian burger. We both enjoyed the food (especially the potatoes on the side) and loved the cat that was chilling next to us. It was extra cute for photos and we had a really great time there. The location is nice as well. The owners were really hospitable and helpful.

Pros: Variety of food, Quality of food, Atmosphere (when no trumpets were around)

Great food and atmosphere

There was a great range of food that could easily be made vegan by swapping cows cheese for vegan cheese (our server even asked if we wanted our burgers vegan or veggie). It was really cool inside and out

Very delicious and HEALTHY!

I thought I had tasted it all—until I stepped into this quiet revolution disguised as a restaurant.

A place where everything is vegan. Not the trendy, "sort of" vegan. I mean truly plant-based, with no trace of dairy, no sneaky honey, no eggs pretending to be harmless. And just when I thought I’d cracked the code, I realized: no gluten. No processed sugar. No artificial nonsense. It was like walking into a parallel universe where flavor reigns and compromise is exiled.

Each dish felt like a poem written with ingredients I barely knew could sing. The textures, the colors, the layers—how do you create such depth without butter? Without flour? Without sugar? And yet, bite after bite, my taste buds were in awe. There was warmth and spice, freshness and earthiness, lightness and comfort, all dancing together in perfect harmony.

But the true wizardry revealed itself at dessert.

Let’s talk about the ice cream.

No dairy. No sugar. No gluten. And yet... if you blindfolded me, I would have sworn I was eating the creamiest, richest, most indulgent scoop of traditional gelato. I took one bite, then another, then paused—my brain doing backflips, searching for logic. How? How was this possible?

I kept eating. Still no answers. Just pure delight.

Even now, writing this, I’m not entirely convinced it wasn’t some kind of culinary illusion. But if it was, then I say: long live the illusion. I will gladly be fooled again.

This place doesn’t just serve food. It serves a reminder that nature, when respected and understood, can outdo even our wildest cravings. I left full—not just in stomach, but in spirit. A rare kind of fullness that lingers.

If you're lucky enough to find yourself near this hidden gem, go. Taste. Be amazed. And like me, prepare to believe in magic again.

Pros: Food, Preparation, Service

Rude

I have scrolled down and found that people have been commenting on the service quality based on who they were served by. Those who are served by "an old guy" without an exception are shocked by how rude (some call him weird) he was (since at least 2017). So was I. I don't think I have ever met such a rude waiter to be honest. Our group tried not to let him ruin our mood since we were in high spirits but since I picked the place as the only vegan, I felt very guilty for dragging them there and embarrassed on his behalf. I will not comment on the food, but I will just say if it was the best I have ever had, no force could ever drag me to a place with that man serving. I actually thought about this a lot, as we were being basically scolded by him, if he was just very unhappy that day, who knows what people are going through etc. But then I came to see the comments, and it seems he has been scolding people for years. I'm just sorry about the experience.

So far the best V sausages!

The seitan box is to die for. Also, the vegan brownie with Belgian chocolate is amazing.

Home cooked vegan food served with love.

For a genuinely friendly and wholesome experience - this place is the one!

The food is tasty and home cooked - not refined or high class, but delicious home-made sauces and perfectly dressed salads. Also, home-made vegan cheese, falafel and seitan.

The restaurant is quirky with a vintage/retro/distopian style (scaffolding meets dried flowers and fruit bowls!), and the staff are genuinely lovely. They obviously appreciated our custom and were determined to make sure we were happy!

Pros: Home-made tahini (OMG!), Great local beers and wine, Friendly service and cat

Cons: Not enough bread for mezze., Could smell smoke downstairs in none smoking area., Seitan not like UK, delicious but crispy and dry.

A crazy place

It is a bit of crazy experience in this restaurant. The interior is full with things and the first floor is built in with scaffold. It is an interesting lovely ambiance.
I got good homemade style food and a nice beer.
The staff was friendly and helpful in the beginning, but then ignored me. I tried for a while to order dessert, but could not get the attention. After a good while I went to the counter to pay and still had to stand in the way to get any attention.

Pros: Interesting atmosphere, Good food and drink

Cons: Staff could give a bit more attention, The drinks are not on the menu, no price given., At the upper end of the valid price range.

awesome!

They call it „slow food“ - we were there around 7:30pm and didn‘t have to wait long for outstanding and delicious food!
You have to try the must-have mezze with tartar sauce, it’s sooo good!! Leave room for dessert, you don’t want to miss the brownie! The staff was very nice. Unfortunately the restaurant cat did not care about us, although she looked so fluffy on her throne.

Homely food & atmosphere

Not the largest menu, but everything is home cooked not just bought in (e.g. the chips are great), and feels healthy and delicious.

Most of the menu is vegan.

Great place for vegan food

I had the Seitan Box and my friend had the TomTom wrap and both was really good. We also talked to the owner and she was very kind and sweet. Rather pricey for Belgrade though.

Fabulous Food, Beer & Ambience

Amazing homemade veggie/vegan food & wonderful hosts. A must visit, my partner is not veggie and said his burger was the best he’d ever had, we ate here several times whilst visiting Belgrade. Exceptional.

Must go to in Belgrade

Choice of some Serbian grill dishes and some curries. We tried the former. Super. Serbian salad also excellent. Quirky interior but the outside terrace is also ideal for people watching. Friendly service.
