Great food, good selection, pseudo fine dining - Edit
Really glad we came here, great food, nice venue, friendly staff with plenty of seating.
Read moreThis could be casual but it also has a slight find dining feel to it. The staff were attentive and pleasant and the whole menu is vegan, life doesn't get much better.
We had Stuffed Cabbage à la Kolozsvár, Vegetable Ragout Soup with Tarragon (onion free), Raw ”Cheesy” Butternut Squash Spaghetti with Buckwheat Granola, Pesto-Cashew Parmesan Pizza, Coal Burner Pizza and a slice of Red Lentil Bread.
The soup was a bit light but it was nice nonetheless. Red Lentil bread we got just out of curiosity was lovely, it was airy and cheesy, it was really good.
Butternut squash was very good, good sized portion and had great cheesy flavour. The Stuffed cabbage was nice, I really liked it but would have loved a second stuffed cabbage roll as a main course.
Pizzas were enormous, and both of them were excellent, no complaints from the peanut gallery at all.
We didn't have desert but there were a number of choices that looked good.
Pros: Great food, location and service, Hungarian and fusion dishes available, Nice atmosphere
Cons: None

Large portions - Edit
Tried a couple of soups, the platter for one, and a veggie pizza. Both main dishes were reasonably priced considering how large they were. Neither tasted extraordinary, but better than most food we had in Budapest. The soups were definitely the best part though!

My favourite place to go in Budapest - Edit
It is hard to describe this with words. It is a proper restaurant. You can dress up nicely and have a great meal. The food is as authentic as it can get and the Hungarian in me strongly agrees. Every single time I visit Budapest, my first destination is Napfényes.

Wonderful Restaurant! - Edit
Couldn’t recommend enough!
Read moreVisited here on a whim and was amazed by how wonderful the food was and the huge variety of cakes and sweet treats that were available!
Had the seitan nuggets platter which came with salad, homemade tomato ketchup and small roasted potatoes - it was delicious!
Then afterwards we tried the dobos cake & also the white chocolate & raspberry cake, both were incredible! Couldn’t believe they were vegan!
The cakes were hard to choose from as they had such a variety, this included 2 types of Mille Fuielle, Russian cake, Lemon Puff cake, apple pie, different variety of cheesecakes, mignon and LOTS more!
Their pistachio ice cream was also dreamy!!!😍
Didn’t get a photo of anything as we ate it so quickly!😂

Incredible flavour! - Edit
I’m still thinking about the cold zucchini pasta. The taste was so reminiscent of sitting at the dinner table eating the stuffing out of a chicken with my sister talking about how it was always the best part of eating a chicken (ew). Seriously though, everything we had here was amazing, the portions were fair, as were the prices. My biggest critique is of the wait times for being served and food coming out. It felt like it took quite some time for us to place our orders, the staff seemed a little confused and quite new, and were prioritising rude customers who were seated after us instead. They were very friendly though, and any downside is so worth it to eat here. Delicious!

Was tasty, but disappointed the menu doesn't include wine. Portions of dishes was good. Not sure if the Hungarian food really tastes as the vegan versions but it's cool attempt.

Amazing!!! - Edit
Gorgeous and classy restaurant with very friendly staff. My Hungarian friend loved the gulash soup (personally I found it a bit too soupy, but I'm a German who's used to the thicker, saucier "Gulasch"), and our platter for 2, even though it was pretty heavy on the carbs side, was amazing. The mushroom "gyros", the cheese cutlets and the tartare sauce was especially nice, I loved how everything had a very handmade feel to it, very OG vegan restaurant food where they make everything in-house. The cake selection is mind-blowing, the creamy chestnut and "cheese" cakes were my favourites, the poppy seed one was a bit too dry for me. I would definetely come back to this place tho.

Delicious vegan Hungarian food - Edit
We visited in December 2023, we had the bean goulash soup and the Sunny Lavish Platter for 2. The soup was lovely and the platter was delicious, though depending on how you were feeling the platter is quite carb heavy/fried food based but was well needed after a long time traveling and a lot of walking. Nice restaurant and ambience and the staff were very nice.

We discovered this nice vegan restaurant in Budapest, very friendly staff and good choice of food. The soup was so tasty, highly recommended.
Read more1 point of criticism:
We missed various and green vegetables at the menu. There is a salad buffet but only cold salad.
And for me there was too much fried stuff.
Furthermore I ordered a dish from the menu explicit without Seitan but was I got was Seitan.
Apart from this, good place for eating vegan food.

Amazing experience - Edit
Napfényes has played an important role for veganism in Hungary as one of the pioneer restaurants, therefore I always wanted to come here to check it out. I went with my friends for a celebration and the dishes we tried were all delicious.
Read moreFirst I had the babgulyás, which was rich and flavourful. Although I haven’t eaten the original version for a long time now, I can tell it’s very well made and similar. For the main, I ate the fried seitan with steak fries, which were both great.
For dessert, I asked for a somlói galuska. It was so so good, I wanted to ask for a second plate! The sponge cake was moist and creamy, not too sweet which I appreciated. My only criticism is that the walnut pieces were quite bad quality, since it had the skin on which made it rather dry. No issues with nuthsell, however.
Overall, I’m very happy with the food I had and would recommend this place to anyone!
Pros: Good location, Delicious food
Cons: Lack of local, Hungarian dishes, Old-school atmosphere
