Regrets

If I could do it all again, I wouldn't have gone to O Bar. My partner and I came here for a special birthday dinner and unfortunately would highly dissuade anyone from thinking of doing the same...we wish we had listened to friends and gone to YELLOW instead!

The service was honestly quite awful - I had put in the reservation notes that we were after the vegan tasting menu and it was a birthday occasion and service staff were all confused and also were asking us whether we wrote this in the notes etc. etc... At one point we had 4 waiters surrounding our table confused about which drink was alcoholic and which was not and without telling us anything took our drinks away.

The food...was EVEN WORSE!! I was left completely disappointed and most of the food was unfortunately left on the plate - the veggies didn't seem fresh, flavours felt 'off', basic textures weren't right (silken tofu was NOT silken nor smooth), everything was too damn salty, there were a lot of bitter/licorice type flavours (e.g. they served endive and fennel) that we didn't enjoy, and even the dessert was abysmal!! Ice cream tasted metallic and off. I guess you could say some of these points were personal preference (e.g. endive)...but honestly, it felt like they relied so heavily on the view being good that they completely forgot about the food.

Yes, the view was amazing, the seating was comfy, and the novelty of spinning around was fun...but for the exorbitant 'fine-dining' price, it was 100% not worth it. We asked friends (both vegan and non-vegan) who had been there before what they had thought, and they all concurred with our experience that the food was terrible. Please go to Yellow if you want a fine dining experience (I haven't even been but anything is better than this).

Pros: View...for $160 per head

Cons: Food, Cost, Confused service

Tasting menu for special occasions

After years on the list we finally tried the plant based tasting menu for my birthday. Let's be honest here, the price is exorbitant. This is a once for a special occasion only kind of place. $175 per person without drinks is truly insane for a few plates of veggies, but they do a damn good job of making those veggies sparkle. And the VIEW. It's the real reason to come here, watch Sydney put on her show.
Every plate was tasty and well balanced with flavours that popped, portions were as small as expected. Dessert was decidedly uncreative, which took me by surprise. It was a fruit salad with sorbet that inexplicably was raspberry flavour not mango as per the menu. The chocolate sponge was just some chocolate crumbs, just really bizarre.
Highlight was the cauliflower but again, no zucchini flowers in sight.
Tip: eat the potato bread immediately or it will turn stone cold and hard, don't wait for anything else to eat it with.
Non drinkers there is a great menu here to accompany your meal. Not sure adding another $85 for non alcoholic pairings would be worth it though.

Pros: View, Cauliflower , Flavour

Cons: Dessert , Price, Missing ingredients

Acceptable but not “wow’d”

Lovely food but expected more flavour. The cauliflower was nice. Gnocchi was just ok.

Pros: Beautiful city views

Fantastic degustation with great views

4/5 vegan degustation. The cauliflower was amazing. Good quantity of food, was full after.
Family had the standard degustation, they were also highly impressed with quality of food
5/5 venue - 360 views of Sydney cbd, very nice atmosphere
4/5 service - not bad but could be better. I’d say this is the main difference comparing to Michelin star restaurants (food quality on par)
Price very expensive, but it is Sydney. I would’ve expected the vegan degustation to be cheaper given the ingredients are substantially cheaper, but no.

Fantastic fine dining

Offers a separate plant-based menu with plenty of options. Everything I had was delicious! The service was attentive and the views of Sydney were to die for (the restaurant rotates so you get a full 360 of the city in about 90 mins). It is very expensive though (currently $115 pp for three courses) so is not for everyone. But if you are in for a fine dining experience, this is your place

Pros: Separate vegan menu, High quality service, Stunning views of Sydney

Cons: Expensive

Amazing Food, Service and Views

This is my favourite fine dining restaurant in Sydney. They have a full vegan menu at the back of the regular menu book which includes around 4 starter options, 4 mains and 2-3 desserts, plus a bunch of sides (which is essentially the same amount of options as the non-vegan menu). Service is awesome here being that it is a fine dining restaurant. It is definitely pricey - expect to pay around $250-$300 in total for 2 people if you both have a couple of drinks. I consider it an experience more than just a meal. Food is incredible as you'd expect for a restaurant of that calibre. The restaurant also rotates, so you get 360 views of Sydney during the course of the meal. Would give it a 5 star rating in a heartbeat if I could. They also help animal related charities on occasion. Currently $2 from every sale of a particular cocktail goes to The Animal Welfare League.

Pros: Service is awesome - staff are really attentive, A lot of vegan options to choose from, Unique fine dining experience

Cons: May be too pricey for some
