Lovely Turkish cafe with excellent vegan options

Really good selection of well-labelled pastries, cakes, and salad bar.
The Turkish borek pastries were incredible, and we went back the next day for more.
Very welcoming and friendly.
Would thoroughly recommend 👌

The Tastiest Turkish Food

We found Cafe Olive whilst perusing the many many cafes/restaurants/pubs in Kendal on the internet and decided to give it a try on the last day of our holiday in the Lake District. It’s lucky it was the last day or we would have spent a large amount of next month’s rent money gorging ourselves silly.
The menu was almost entirely vegetarian/vegan and not being used to having so many options, we struggled to choose. In the end, we were greedy and chose quite a selection of different things and shared everything (the joy of being vegan and being engaged to a vegan).
We started with a mixed meze and borek plate which was DELICIOUS! For £13, it was also pretty sizeable. We went for baba ganoush, saksuka, vine leaves, pitta and sourdough bread and the spinach, mushroom and nutmeg borek (shown in the photo). The borek was so good that we bought two more to take away with us for our dinner - I said we were greedy!
We didn’t think it could possibly get any better but we then had the red lentil moussaka, which was a special that day. Oh, it was so good!
The sweet apple tea and Turkish coffee were also incredibly tasty. The coffee came with vegan Turkish delight, which was a lovely surprise.
Can’t rate this place highly enough! Wouldn’t it be amazing if they went entirely veggie/vegan?!
