Great tacos and drinks - Edit
Delicious and filling food and a refreshing margarita as well. Tasted like classic, authentic street food. Baja taco specifically was amazing. Atmosphere was a little subpar. Music very loud. Better for takeout I think😄

Underwhelming food, poor service - Edit
Saturday night dinner for two. Waited at the host stand for ~5 minutes without being greeted or acknowlegded. There was a discussion among staff about calling reservations to check if they were coming in, without anyone acknowledging us standing there. Felt very weird just standing there without some interaction or indication of availability, like we were bothering them being there.
Read moreWe ordered a lot of food because we were excited to try! When we started by ordering both elotes, the server commented that it was a lot of food and seemed to discourage us, which was odd. Our elotes and tacos came out first, and we had to ask about our drinks and guacamole. Our server explained that fresh tortilla chips were being made to justify the delay, and the chips seemed fresh-ish, they were not warm but I gather were made recently. They said they added more chips because of the delay; the amount of chips was normal.
The flavors were all lacking and the sauce on the fish taco tasted weirdly antiseptic. The only seasoning on the Takis elote is Takis; it is literally just corn, mayo, and Takis. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect more seasoning on elote. The street style elote was seasoned nicely, but also lacking flavor. The tacos dorado was probably the best thing we had, and the slaw-style toppings are what made it pop. No hot sauce in sight, nothing on the table except the menu QR code on a little stand.
We ordered a non-alcoholic classic margarita (which we had to ask about because drinks did not come out until well into our meal) and it tasted like pure syrup. It was hard to believe there was any zero-proof tequila in it. It was also served in a rocks-style glass which, at this price point, felt lacking. The house beer was quite nice, more malty than expected, which I enjoy.
During our meal a delivery driver came in and had an argument at the door before they left, I gather about food not being ready. It turned a nice moment tense and was indicative of the overall quality of service.
Overall it felt like vegan food for people who have never had great vegan food. The staff all seemed pretty stressed and unhappy to be there. Not a great dinner atmosphere.
This is as detailed a review as I am able to provide. This is my opinion as a diner and appreciator of vegan food. There are better vegan options in Chicago. IMHO if you have good hot sauce and cheese at home you might as well get Taco Bell and dress it up. Not a good value for a dinner out.
Pros: Fresh-ish tortilla chips, Dorado toppings, House beer is unique and tasty
Cons: Poor service, Waiting without being greeted/acknowledged, Small portions

SOOO GOOOOOOD - Edit
I had La Ensalada which by no means was a simple salad. Every option on the menu has so many bold ingredients packed in. From what I could see of other items it is all crafted so carefully. The environment is so fun and the location is amazing. I can’t wait to come back and try more things when I have more time and people to being with!

Creative, flavorful tacos - Edit
Their tacos are seriously good. I tried three, the chorizo, baha, and cauliflower and they were all packed with flavor. I think the chorizo was my favorite of the three. There were so many things on the menu I would have liked to try so I'll have to go back. So great to find creative vegan tacos!

Just “okay” - Edit
We had some different dishes, and some were good, others so-so. The service was attentive and great, and their cauliflower ceviche was great. Only two of the six sampled tacos felt up to par. Corn cob was just strange, but some other items sounded delicious. Hit or miss type of place.

Just Alright - Edit
I was really excited to try this restaurant! I loved the chips and salsa, but everything else lacked flavor. I went with a big group on a Tuesday and they were out of a few things including tequila! Pretty disappointing we couldn’t order a margarita. I might go back to try something else but I will definitely call before hand to make sure they at least have tequila in stock!

Could be better - Edit
I had very high expectations and was really looking forward to eating here. Honestly, i was pretty let down with the food that i ordered. I felt that it was lacking in flavor overall. If I were to come back I’d order a different entree. However, the classic horchata was very good!

This Mex loves this place - Edit
They clearly took great care to match the taste of true Mexican dishes. Very creative use of veggies. I'm floored by how good this is. The Beyond meat flavor and rice/beans were the only thing that pinged as non-authentic.

Satisfying Vegan Mexican Food - Edit
I travel quite a bit and it is hard to find 100% vegan restaurants (as well as mostly gluten-free). So when I do, I get all excited. This one is a small nicely appointed diner style restaurant with a very colorful motif and a fair amount of indoor seating. I liked how friendly, helpful, and attentive the staff was.
Read moreI ordered several different flavors of their street tacos in hopes of getting my Mexican food fix for the year. They certainly didn’t disappoint. I especially loved the spicy chorizo, asada, and mushroom tacos although the Al pastor tacos were tasty as well. The vegan sour cream (I assume house made) had just the right amount of “zing” to accent the dishes.
I know where to go next time I am back in Chicago.

Delicious burrito - Edit
I was visiting Chicago and tried to support 100% vegan restaurants that have great reviews.
Read moreI just had Stand Up Burgers about 2 hours ago, but since I was closed by Penelope’s I thought I should order Togo for later. Since it’s for later I thought a burrito would be the best choice.
The beans were perfectly cooked and very nicely flavored. It was odd that I never like the chorizo spices but this lightly flavored burrito was perfect for me. I have to say it has been the best vegan burrito that I have ever tasted in these 8 years.
Sorry, I think I forgot to take a photo but if I located I will uploaded late.
This is just a note. I am so used to the larger burrito sizes in California, I was a bit surprised by its size. But it was a perfect size for me and I can truly tasted how they put love in their cooking. They were so busy too and yet the a simple burrito still comes out so tasty. I can’t wait to visit next time when I am in town. It would be for a nice sit down dining experience.
I highly recommended this taqueria!!
