Outstanding delicious - Edit
I am so happy I came here. The place looks so fun. The staff are incredible friendly and the food is just outstanding. I had 3 tacos 🌮 and I recommend all of them: mushroom chimichurri, carnitas and Baja taco. All made fresh with wonderful flavor served with a lime. Highly recommend!

Lots of options and could really taste the passion in the food. Well seasoned and very flavorful. Had multiple appetizers and entrees most were exceptional. The standout being the al pastor taco and elote.

Tasty,all vegan! - Edit
We had the street style elotes and asada fries as appetizers, and then split 4 tacos: soy al pastor, soy chorizo, mushroom chimichurri, and carnitas. All were good, the mushroom chimichurri was my favorite. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

Amazing food, drinks and service - Edit
We found this place through Happy Cow, and it was amazing. Service was impeccable, as the owner, Juan, served us, and was happy to be ell us all about the food and drinks. The creativity in the tacos delighted our palates, and the drinks were delicious. We loved the elite, guacamole, many different tacos and the homemade Horchata. They are getting their liquor license soon. Does miss this place, all vegan, and all delicious!

Great flavor, great vibes - Edit
Penelope’s really delivers on the flavor, customer, service, and aesthetics. The tacos are memorable, servers amiable, and the vibe is perfect for get hangs and dates. I had a great experience.
Read moreThe two areas for growth are the menu and prices. The menu has some great options but is surprisingly small. The prices are pretty high—tacos are $5 and a special dessert was going for $12. That said, only three tacos filled me up!
I definitely recommend checking it out if you like vegan Mexican. It’s a gem.

We were a table of 2. Juan, the owner, showed us to our table and got us water immediately. We ordered the black beans on bread thingy and 4 tacos. All were wonderful! Couldn't recommend enough!

Great tacos, good vibes. - Edit
Like this place. Try the horchata. One downside is they do single tortilla tacos. Recommend doubling it up and maybe adding a sauce on top. Still really good regardless.

Favorite vegan Mex & among my favorite vegan rest. in Chicago - Edit
I'm in Chicago to do vegan activism against the fur industry, we are currently targeting LVMH group and protesting all their stores countrywide, this place is close to were we are protesting, the restaurant is beautiful, the artist senkoe has beautiful artwork, it's the same artist that painted my previous favorite vegan restaurant, Charly's Vegan Tacos in Miami (which shut down on early 2021 unfortunately), and this restaurant Penelope's Vegan taqueria took it's place of my favorite Mexican vegan restaurant and definitely took a place in my favorite vegan restaurants in Chicago and in the US so far. The music and everything was great, but the food was even better, it was amazing, specially the Baja taco that has battered fried avocado was very tasty, and the mushrooms taco as well. I ordered the Nachos Locos, I liked them a lot and will order them next time as well as I will go again for sure. We also had the enchilada, really good and healthy.
Read moreTheir food is not greasy, it looks healthy and high quality. I'm happy that I found a high quality Mexican restaurant, and specially that its vegan because I only eat vegan food. The receipt said in the bottom "Veganism i she future!". Definitely that just made the experience even better.
I will go again before I go back to Miami. The burritos looked great, someone at another table had one, I'm trying one next time.
Pros: Beautiful place, Tasty and high quality and healthy , Good prices
Cons: Parking is easy but it's street paid parking

This restaurant is so fun and has beautiful murals on the walls! The food is incredible and there are so many options! We got Los Nachos Locos for an appetizer; they were so good! I got the Quesabirras for my entre and it was delicious; maybe one of the best Mexican dishes I've ever had! Well worth the price and the trip!

Food was okay. Not many meat substitute options instead of potatoes and vegetables. Food didn’t really taste authentic and was overpriced. Clean spot and nice service but food missed the mark.

Hello Anna,
Read moreThank you for your feedback, and I am sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your experience.
We have plenty of options like soy, pulled oats, beans, beyond products, and many other plant-based ingredients like our pumpkin flower taco and Baja taco. So I would recommend checking out our menu for more options.
Also, $4 for a taco in river north seems reasonable in this economy. We stand by our prices due to the organic and high-quality vegan products we provide our customers and only plan on giving the best.

Penelope’s Vegan Taqueria - Edit
Great vegan Mexican restaurant in the city! The tacos were delicious except one (which I decided not to eat) and the cauliflower appetizer had a bit too much lime in it (which my friend also mentioned). The chips were very oily but we still liked them.

They have great food, price is on higher end but it's worth it. Tacos are a must! Their drinks are expensive and not worth the cost. Overall a great place for lunch/dinner.

Cute spot, delicious food - Edit
I stopped here for lunch and got two different flavors of Tacos with a side of rice as well as an appetizer of chips, guacamole, and salsa.
Read moreI tried the Soy Chorizo taco as well as the Carnitas taco. Both were really tasty and had unique flavors. The rice was very good as well.
I had a few bummer moments, though. I found the chips to be *really* greasy, and the guacamole hard to eat because it was very chunky. Also, my tacos fell apart almost immediately upon picking them up because the filling was very wet and soaked through the soft taco.
Pros: 100% Vegan!, Unique flavors, Delicious food
Cons: Greasy chips, Hard to eat tacos, Guacamole too chunky

A great Mexican joint in a great area of town. - Edit
I stopped in here on a Sunday evening and sat at the bar. The employees were very engaging and friendly. I got the cauliflower ceviche, which was served with a generous pile of fresh made tortilla chips. I skipped the chips and devoured the ceviche. I also got the street corn, off the cob, which was very tasty. Based on the recommendation of the waitress, I got a taco al pastor de soya. I really liked it. I thought it was a larger than average sized taco, loaded with lots of great soy meat and veggies. Also, based on recommendation, I got the “quesabirria.” Three sautéed mushroom tacos loaded with cheese and veggies, smothered in red sauce, and then a broth for dipping. Very good.
Read moreMy only critique would be that everything was a bit on the greasy side. More than I like, anyway. No desserts (did me a favor! Lol). The prices are a bit high, but not crazy and, given the location, not out of line. I’ll be back.

Great flavors but very overpriced. - Edit
Friendly service and food was delicious. However, it felt very overpriced for the amount of food.
Read moreWe both got the quesabirria which was unique (I had never had a vegan version before) and very flavorful. For 16 dollars, I expected it to come with some rice and beans or something. It was just 3 small tacos.
We also ordered the guacamole ($13) which tasted fresh, but again, kind of ridiculous for the price.
I got the strawberry dragonfruit horchata which was delicious but honestly couldn’t taste any strawberry or dragonfruit whatsoever. Tasted like a regular horchata, but pink. Fortunately, all the horchata flavors are priced equally, but might as well just get the regular one since there was truly no difference in taste.
Individual tacos are 4-5 dollars each and fairly small.
The ingredients themselves tasted fresh and well prepared.
Service was great and the workers were friendly, but a little overbearing. We were there for about a half hour and had 2 different people come up to our table a minimum of 5 times to ask if everything was okay. I appreciate that they want to do a good job, but it did get a bit annoying being constantly interrupted in the middle of our dinner to ask if everything was okay…. Especially if we’d just been asked 5 mins ago. I guess it’s better than not being asked at all?
Overall, I would come back to this place because the food was tasty and I love Mexican food. However, the pricing feels a bit ridiculous. We ended up spending $90 for two people (tax and tip included) and neither of us left feeling all that full.
Pros: Creative and authentic menu offerings. , Flavorful. , Good service.
Cons: SO expensive. , Overbearing service. , Tiny portions.
