Good hot dog - Edit
Their vegan hot dog is really nice. The veggie dog they use tastes really good. Unfortunately the fries are cooked in animal oil

ONLY TIL 11PM - Edit
WATCH OUT I asked about the vegan option and a worker said they don't sell them after 11pm. The opening hours on happycow should be changed.

All Vegan Garden Dog Available - Edit
You really can't go wrong with any Portillo's locations here in Chicago. They all have the same ol' aesthetic that transports you into its own little world, great for kids during the day and tipsy adults at night.
Read moreAs for me, I'm a plant-based eater now, and thought I would no longer have anything substantial at Portillo's any longer. Surprise to me, they now have a Garden Dog ($5) that is fully vegan and can be enjoyed by everyone. I ordered just that along with their classic crinkle-cut fries and it was great - took me back to the days of living here and coming after a night out.
Open very late (until 1 in the morning), making it a very accessible option for anyone hungry for a dog.

Great chicago dog - Edit
Yummy Chicago dog. I'm grateful there is a vegan option, given my husband loves this place so much. The french fries were pretty great, too. I recommend ordering on the website for pickup. The order line is rather long.

Out of plant based - Edit
Plant based dog on the menu, but they said they don’t have it. Sucks I walked all the way over.

Authentic Chicago style vegan hot dog - Edit
I’ve never had an authentic Chicago style hot dog before, so I knew Portillos was a must! The plant-based garden dog is a field roast vegan hot dog, with all the fixings! Mustard, relish, celery salt, freshly chopped onions, sliced red ripe tomatoes, kosher pickle and sport peppers piled onto a poppy seed bun. Delicious! Did I give away my tourist status by adding ketchup? Maybe 🤭

Portillo’s - Edit
Wow! So great to see a traditional Chicago establishment offer a vegan option. The garden dog is amazing. I love that the restaurant also shows the calories directly on the menu so you can make informed choices. I was only going to order one, but the calories were lower than expected , so I ordered two!

Just like a real Chicago hot dog! - Edit
We visited the location on Ontario in Chicago. Lists of ambience especially original paraphernalia of past Chicago sports teams.
Read moreMy wife & I grew up eating the amazing food Chicago has to offer. Being vegan for several years we thoroughly enjoyed the vegan version of a classic Chicago style dog. Portillo's you nailed it! 👍
Pros: Chicago style hot dog - plant based!, Great location , Craft beer on tap
