A cat cafe where all the cats are rescues who are up for adoption. Please note that no food is served. Bottled drinks are available in the lobby. Open Wed-Sun 11:00am-5:30pm. Last entry at 5:00 PM. Closed Mon, Tue, national holidays.

A rare gem in Yokohama

Velcat is one of the rare animal cafes that, as far as we can tell, is operating as ethically as possible. All the cats are rescues, most of whom are up for adoption, and they even had two cats that were FHIV (separated from the other cats, of course).

When we visited, all the animals seemed healthy and well cared-for. Most of them seemed to truly enjoy playing with or being pet by the patrons. Those who didn’t were free to go to an area the patrons couldn’t enter.

The staff seemed to truly care about the animals, and the place was spotlessly clean. Incidentally, we bought one of the handmade cat toys they sell there, and our two rescues are obsessed with it now. 😂We’d like to visit again.
