Sharing 3 “small” plates between 2 of us and then a dessert was a flavoursome treat. Everything was vegan, comfy chairs and friendly service made this a pleasure.

A large noisy party next to us marred the experience a little bit but they left before we did and it didn’t take away from the lovely food.

We loved the atmosphere of the venue and the staff were really lovely and down to earth. We were in heaven eating several small dishes and one main, the ‘lamb’ ragu. I especially liked the baked ‘Camembert’ and veg gyoza. My kombucha was also delicious. Will return as soon as possible.

After reading reviews, we were really excited to try Shrub. The food was absolutely amazing! I could have easily ordered the whole menu, but everything we chose was so good! The place has such a lovely feel and the staff were so warm and friendly as well. I can't wait to come back and try everything else!

Went to Shrub at the weekend with a friend, we had olives, pickles, and then two small plates (meatballs and the artichoke wings) and then followed with a roast dinner. Every single morsel of food was perfection. The drinks are designed in-house with home fermented ingredients and herbs from staff gardens. Really special place, would definitely return. I will say that the meatballs were incredibly meat-like so not for everyone, but absolutely delicious all the same.

We called into Shrub in the evening as we were passing. Double checked that everything they sold was vegan and then ordered a couple of cocktails....a treat for us as we were taking a city break. I ordered a Naked Negroni & my partner a Spiced Mule. Neither of us are big drinkers and when they arrived mine tasted super strong. The bartender was only too happy to give me a shot of soda water to tone it down. The place had a nice vibe and the food I saw delivered to the couple on the next table looked good. I suggest asking the bartender for advice before ordering a cocktail unless you are experienced/knowledgeable about their flavours/strength 🍹

Great Vegan tapas in Chester - Edit
Really nice place, great food and good service. We had 3 small plates, one burger and one pasta to share, plus drinks. All together it came to around £60 (including tip) and overall I’d recommend it. A little pricey, but worth it. The place is decorated really nicely too with lots of plants and lights around. Great place to visit if you’re in Chester! #Veganuary

The first few visits to Shrub were fabulous, great choices of tasty food. I took my football mates there in October 2022, none of who were vegan, and they all absolutely loved the burgers and katsu curry.

Loved it here! We came for dinner and it was amazing. My husband isn't vegan and even he wants to go back when we're are in the area again. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were knowledgable with the menu for my daughters soy intolerance and adapting food for a toddler offering a plain tomato pasta for her. We had the hummus starter adapted with less oil etc for my daughter, it was lovely. We then had the crispy sprouts, vegetable gyoza small plates and the 'lamb' ragu and pumpkin tortellini pastas for our main part of the meal. All if it was delicious. We had dessert as well; apple dumpling and cookie dough blondie both fantastic too! Lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended.

I am absolutely wowed!! Everything about Shrub is 10/10! The decor, the atmosphere, the staff, the food, all outstanding! This is probably one of the best vegan restaurant we have ever been! The food was outstanding! We had the pumpkin tortellini, burger, tofu, artichoke, fries and cambert! And finished off with cookie dough!!! The pumpkin tortellini was amazing! Will definitely be returning for this alone!!! My husband said the burger was fab! We enjoyed everything but out of the little dishes the tofu was a favourite!
