Super Favorite! - Edit
Absolutely delighted to try Spicy Moon! Quirky fun atmosphere and delicious eats. I studied abroad in China and never thought I’d find vegan Chinese that was full of complex flavors. You nailed it Spicy Moon.

We had the lunch special menu for 16.50 per person which included starters and mains. We had the dumplings, the Kung Pao and the fried rice with Beyond beef. It was super delicious.

Food was good but…. - Edit
Had really high hopes based on the reviews. Menu looked great. First red flag is when we ordered and within 3 minutes food was brought out. The food was great, being sick all night from it was not.

3.5 stars - Edit
There are three Spicy Moon restaurants in NYC; this is by far the most elegant of the three. The food here is good, and the setting is quite nice. I tried the other two branches, and I thought I'd give this venue a try.
Read moreI chose the Kung Pao, which was listed as un-spicy--but it was still on the spicy side for my tastes. To be sure, I am not a big fan of spicy food; those who like spicy food might like it better than I do. I was unsure whether to give this 3 or 4 stars--so I split the difference and gave this one 4 stars and the other two branches 3 stars. Again, if you like spicy food, you might add a star or two.

Good, but there are better options - Edit
I had the mapo tofu, and the crab rangoon. The mapo tofu was very good, but the crab rangoon was... Meh. For the price of the food it was a little disappointing.
Read moreIn any city other than NYC this place would be an absolute gem - but when you compare it to all the incredible options a short subway ride away it probably isn't worth a visit.

A bit bland for Szechuan dish. - Edit
I ordered the Mapo Tofu which originated from Szechuan region. I was surprised it was bland. It was not spicy or peppery at all, except visually it is soaked in red oily sauce. The only good thing about this dish is more visual than taste. The leek used instead of spring onion made it looked authentic, but lack of flavors.
Read moreI also ordered a pea shoot sautéed with garlic to balanced the supposedly spicy mapo dish. It was a bit oily.
Pros: 100% vegan, Love that they are environmental friendly
Cons: Bland mapo tofu

Great Ambiance; Must be a Szechuan Lover - Edit
This place is all ambiance; the lighting, decor, and vibe hit you as soon as you walk in (even the washrooms are fun).
Read moreHowever, food wise, you must be into Szechuan cuisine. It seems as though the two main dishes are really dan dan noodles or ma po tofu. If you're not into those, the menu lags. The other dishes didnt look good or didnt come recommended. We ended up making a piecemeal meal by combining different buns and dumplings, and had the fried eggplant which was...a little too much. Too fried. Too salty. Not sure, but we werent yearning to finish it.
The food overall was good, but not enough to make me come back.
Pros: Decor, Good Szechuan cuisine, Multiple locations
Cons: Menu felt limited outside of core dishes, Noisy inside

This spot is more like a club and bar atmosphere spot, i thought each one of them the menu and what they sell are different but the menu is actually the same for all locations

Good Food, but Noisy - Edit
We had some great dishes - the Dan Dan Noodles were well made, the Crabfree Rangoon with guava puree was delicately delicious. the Salt & Pepper was totally fried, and the tofu and vegetables were hard to distinguish. The Red Bean Bun and Black Sesame Moon desserts were very nice - typical Chinatown fare but vegan. The drawback was the loud music, it was hard to converse. It seemed shortstaffed at the beginning.

A rare gourmet Vegan experience. Three of us tried a variety of appetizers and entrees. Everything tasted great. The different seasoning “styles” are not explained on the menu so ask your server. I loved garlic style.

Szechuan food 🤤 - Edit
If you love the taste of Szechuan you’ll LOVE this place! Get the kung pao dish!! This is my favorite restaurant and sooo underrated. I will say the spice level seems to differ at the various locations and imo the one in East Village has the mildest food. Oh I forgot also get the Brussels sprouts!!
