Amazing comfort food! - Edit
I was so pleased with everything at Sweet Soulfood! The food was delicious, and the portions were giant! Between my husband and myself, we shared fried mushrooms, collard greens, mac and cheese, jambalaya, red beans and rice, corn bread, and okra gumbo. The red beans and rice and the gumbo were my favorite. Everything was great though! The lady at the counter was welcoming and gave us a sample of cauliflower while we made our selections. It's definitely worth a visit when in NOLA.

My New Orleans vegan go-to - Edit
This cafeteria-style lunch joint dishes out the real thing—Louisiana-inflected soul food— with generosity and heart. Everything is tasty, but a few items deserve special recognition: the okra gumbo, macaroni and (vegan) cheese, and sweet heat cauliflower. The portions are enormous: we were eating leftovers for most of a week.

Sweet Soulfood has a sweet soul - Edit
If you’re ever in New Orleans and searching for food that feeds more than just your appetite, Sweet Soulfood is an absolute must. This charming vegan spot blends Cajun flair with soul food traditions in a way that feels like both a warm hug and a flavor explosion. From the moment I stepped in and saw the daily rotating selection, I knew I was in for something special — and I wasn’t leaving without enough to turn my hotel fridge into a mini buffet.
Read moreEvery bite was a standout. The eggplant lasagna was rich and comforting, layered with flavor. The orange cauliflower, yams and greens tasted just like someone’s Southern grandma was working her magic in the back. The vegan mac n’ cheese was dreamy — creamy and satisfying without being heavy. The red beans and rice? A soulful classic done right. And the bread pudding… let’s just say getting two orders was not a mistake.
But the food is only half the story. What makes Sweet Soulfood truly unforgettable is its heart. While dining, I overheard the staff talking about a homeless man outside. Without hesitation, I packed him a generous plate, and they knew him by name — a quiet testament to their care and community spirit. You could feel the kindness was as baked-in as the seasoning.
I’m already plotting a return trip before my flight home so I can bring a little piece of this magic with me. Sweet Soulfood isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a reminder that good food and good people still exist in abundance.

Sweet Soulfood is a great place for traditional vegan soulfood. You get to pick several items and get a bit of everything which we really appreciated as it would have been too hard to pick!

Amazing food huge portions - Edit
Really nice place, huge portions, I went for the BBQ cauliflower, jambalaya and mushrooms in gravy. Should have gone for just two as the portions are super generous, you choose one large and two small if you go for three. I am about to enter a food coma but the best kind

Great soul food! - Edit
This was great soul food, just a short trip outside of the French Quarter. The Greens were my favorite part of my dish, incredible. The cornbread stuffing and Bread pudding were also great! The Mac and Cheese and Jambalaya were solid, but definitely didn’t blow me away, and were maybe a bit underwhelming based on my expectations. But all in all, this was very good, and very quick. Highly recommend making your way to Sweet Soulfood.

Great Find! - Edit
My first visit was a pickup order and it was ready in 15 minutes. I tried the collard greens, fried cauliflower, stuffed bell peppers, Mac & cheese, and gumbo. Don’t judge me lol, it was split between two people. Plenty of food for lunch and dinner. Everything was delicious except the gumbo tasted like tomato soup with okra. Hard to enjoy when I’ve had “authentic” gumbo. Definitely a gem for vegan food. When I went in all of the tables were full, so keep that in mind if dining in.

Great food with the kindest people! - Edit
The employees were so friendly and welcoming, and gave huge servings! The Mac and cheese is slightly sweet (maybe sweet potato) and really creamy. The orange cauliflower was delicious and you have to get the bread pudding- incredible! The gumbo was good but a bit salty if you are sensitive to that.

First time - Edit
Coming from Montreal, Canada, I was looking for some good southern food. Sweet soul food was the best food I had during my week long New Orleans trip. Thé Mac and Cheese was crazy good, it was also my first time trying gumbo 10/10. Fried cauliflower was delicious as was the collard greens, they were quite sweet but delicious. The only thing I wasn’t a huge fan of was the jambalaya, I had never eaten jambalaya before and it’s basically just a rice dish. Highly recommend this place. Service was very friendly as well.

We were there on a Friday, so we got two create your own platters with a pasta, cauli wings, and red beans. The sweet heat cauliflower was honestly a religious experience, we’ve never had anything like it. We had the green goodness and strawberry lemonade juices too which were really good. The portions were pretty big and it was a rainy day, otherwise we’d have gotten icecream to take with us as we walked into town - there were 6 or 7 different flavours, and they all looked fab

This was our best experience of soul food in Nola. Everything from the buffet was great and even the juices were super fresh and tasty. Just wish they would offer reusable plates for dining in, so much wasted plastic😒
