I didn’t love the eggplant parma - Edit
I found it to be very rich and heavy, and I didn’t fancy the vegan cheese they used at the time. It may have changed now.

Diverse vegan menu at a popular pub - Edit
It was a surprise to find out the Austral had a vegan menu, but certainly a welcome one. The eggplant parmy is delicious and priced similarly to other food. The menu has lots of options that I'm yet to try but they all look great. Also has cheap beers, so it's hard to go wrong here.

Nice Australian pub with dining room - Edit
I came here with my partner who isn't vegetarian. It is a pub with a dining area, Australian pub style food, see the menu on their website, there are several clearly marked vegan options on the menu. I ate a vegan burger it was quite big, and taste was good, fries had a bit too much salt for my taste. Burgers come with a pint/softdrink/juice included for 21 dollar.

Sub standard food with bad customer service - Edit
Based on feedback from here I ordered the eggplant parmi with pepper sauce and vegan cheese. Because I ordered the cheese with the pepper sauce I was charged for two orders. When I clarified that I only wanted one after reading my receipt, I was told that I needed to be clearer with what I wanted because to have cheese with a pepper sauce was “odd but whatever”. I was looking forward to the meal based on the other reviews but was massively underwhelmed. It lacked flavour, was overly greasy and not satisfying. Overall not a positive experience and I regret not going to the Indian restaurant that was my second choice. At least they would know how to make good vegetarian / vegan food. Also they only had three veggie/ vegan options on the menu, quite the opposite to the multiple options mentioned in other reviews. The parmi, a burger and vegan skewers.

I just came back here to see if anyone visited after my recent review, I'm sorry for your bad experience, There are no excuses for poor service, indeed the service is minimal, nevertheless my review I think was not selling it as more than it is. Your expectations seem to have been a bit too high. In hindsight I actually downgraded my rating with one star. But you should compare this place with other pubs not Indian restaurants or vegan places. Within their sub category they are doing a good job with the several vegan options on the menu.

I love that the Austral introduced a vegan menu. The options are very diverse and really tasty. It's definitely worth a visit. Just not a fan of the Mexican style burger.

Very impressed with the eggplant parmi (advise to add the mushroom sauce also), uses vegan cheese. They also have pasta and a burger and a couple of other vegan items on menu.

Best Schnitzels! - Edit
Being from Adelaide and having a lot of German ancestry, I grew up living on Schnitzels! After going vegan, I never thought I'd be able to experience a pub schnitzel again.
Read moreThe Austral Hotel is one of the most amazing places I've ever eaten at. Sure it's not the fanciest, but the service is unbeatable! My food always comes out quickly, the drinks are always flowing, and every staff member has been lovely.
Take your friends, families, and dates here. Nothing can beat their schnitzels!
