Our favorite Chicago restaurant! - Edit
We always do Chicago Diner before or after a Cubs game. It's a nice walk to/from Wrigley. Most of the menu is vegan and it's consistently delicious!

Better for dine in - Edit
I ordered for carry out, as during covid they aren’t open for dine in. The hand cut fries were soggy (I tried them right when we got the food, so it’s not like they sat). The milkshakes weren’t as we remembered either. The Mac and tease was great as always.

Cons: Not as great for carry out

Delicious and filling - Edit
We ordered the french toast breakfast sandwich, the perogie quesadilla, biscuits and gravy, and dessert. Everything was flavorful and really tasty and the portion sizes were good. Lots of unique options, will definitely have to order again! The french toast sandwich really stood out.

Classic - Edit
When we arrived the place was so packed we had to get ushered to some shed because it was raining. It was at this moment i knew this place would be lit af. While we waited they had some hot tea and water for us to drink. 30 or so minutes later our names were called and we went inside. After much pondering I decided to settle on the reuben sandwich while my brother had the poutine. Honestly the reuben was just okay to me. A bit too acidic. The mac and cheese was classic. The poutine tho was lit af. Milkshake was great too. I probably gained five pounds after this meal.

Loved it so much we had to go for both breakfast and dinner during our trip to Chicago. Got the cookbook too so we could replicate those reubens at home. Good cocktails too!

Delicious experience - Edit
We ordered our food online and the process was very simple and efficient. My friend and I shared a Reuben and a Cuban. As a non veg eater this was the best Reuben I’ve ever had! Would not have been able to tell it wasn’t meat if you didn’t tell me. The chips and guac were excellent! Guac was a little spicy but I love spicy so it was a nice surprise.

An Institution - Edit
The Chicago Diner is an institution in Chicago. That doesn't mean the food is spectacular though. The original location here is better than the Logan Square one, but it's plagued by the same problems. The quality of the food is fairly inconsistent and is often very greasy and overly salty.
Read moreThe desserts though are absolutely spectacular and will always keep me coming back.
Pros: Great desserts
Cons: Very greasy and salty

A Chicago Vegan Institution! - Edit
The Diner is incredible! Some folks may not like that it is built around savory, heavy junk food (like all diners are, so it shouldn't be a surprise) but this spot helped me shift to a plant-based diet.
Read moreThe Reuben is something I've preferred to standard corned beef reubens for a few years now, I might say it was the first sign I didn't need to have animal products on a meal to make it indulgent! The milkshakes are also incredible, as are all the desserts.
I do wish they'd make their wings out of cauliflower instead of seitan, since those don't have the best texture, but this spot should be on most any vegan/vegetarian's bucket list.
Pros: Incredibly good meals, Tasty desserts, Good atmosphere at both locations
Cons: Is often crowded (though that's a positive sign!)

Stodgy - Edit
This is a very popular place to eat vegetarian in Chicago. The food is very stodgy, heavy, so it is very much like the typical food of the midwest. But if you are a vegetarian that likes to, well, eat vegetables than this is not the place for you. I wish they had healthier food options.

The food is so good that you want to ask to make sure it is vegan. Great service. Expect to wait but they have a heated tent around back to wait. The food was so amazing.

Come hungry - Edit
Been there a couple of times now and while I wasn't staying in the area, heading to Chicago Diner for dinner was definitely a decision I would make again.
Read moreSo many things on the menu looking so good - so hard to decide. The milk shakes are epic and if you can fit anything else, the 'gyros' I had was really good too. The vegan tzatziki wasn't quite what I expected; tasted like gherkins instead of cucumbers were used, but apart from that it was spot on.

Old-School Charm! - Edit
This is old-school fake-meat vegan at its best. The food is heavy but delicious, so come hungry and resist the urge to stuff yourself. This place makes diner-style comfort food, but without being greasy or grody like so many places do when replicating omni food for vegans. These guys know how to cook!
