A Leicester institution - Edit
The Good Earth has been around for years, and I hope it has many more ahead of it. It's all vegetarian and vegan and is cosy. The dishes on the (changing) menu are already prepared, so it's also a good option if you want a nice lunch but don't have as much time to wait for your order to be cooked.

Tasty but changeable - Edit
Food is tasty but changeable so you never know what they will have on. Knowledgeable on what is veggie/vegan. Doorway can be hard to find if you don't know where it is. Narrow staircase at entrance so not pram/wheelchair accessible

Old school veggie - Edit
Like being sat in your Grandma’s living room, in the best way. Help yourself, buffet style dining. All vegetarian, home cooked and fresh ingredients. Had the veggie bake and lots of salads. Simple, good tasting food. Less options for vegans.

Veggie good food - Edit
Restaurant upstairs serving hot food and salad during the day. Good choice for lunch. Downstairs there is a small shop selling freezer meals, essential oils, candles, and dried herbs.

Homely, tasty food - Edit
I love the good earth! Everything is vegan and veggie, the salad bar is fab and they always have a few vegan options for the hot food such as pie, casserole or a bake which has always been really good when I’ve had it. The cake is also great, if they have the vegan Oreo cake you have to get it!!!! The food is big portions, great value for money and delicious. Strongly recommend.

Lovely place to visit, very homely with veggie and vegan options. I was with my omni friend who ate here a Mediterranean vegetable bake and I had a vegan lentil and black bean cottage pie which was absolutely amazing.

Homely vibe. - Edit
The Good Earth has a homely vibe not unlike grandma's house. 👵 They serve home cooked, local seasonal veg where possible, hot pots, casseroles and amazing salads with such a variety that it's easy to get your five-a-day. Oh and not forgetting their traditional homemade lemonade is such a treat.

The only downside is that the restaurant is up a flight of stairs, so no good for wheelchair users but their meals are also available frozen for you to take home. Handy to keep in the freezer if you don't feel like cooking, but what more than your average supermarket microwave meal.
I've taken international visitors here and they've been very impressed with the English charm and quality of the food.
Pros: Homecooked hearty hot pots. , Amazing salads, Homemade traditional lemonade
Cons: Stairs, Not open late, Hidden down a side street

vegetarian and Vegan - Edit
The best vegetarian and vegan restaurant in leicester. I have been eating at the GE for years, and it never fails to please. It's a shame other cafes in leicester don't follow their example, and give veggies good delicious wholesome hot dishes.

Tired vegetarian restaurant stuck in the 1970's - Edit
such a shame they won't move with the times. it could be great. stodgy, unapetising vegetarian dishes. hardly any thing for vegans except their 'famous rissoles'. they laid heavily in my stomache all afternoon. The decor, the staff all seem tired. needs a new release of life and more vegan options and vegan homemade cake. won't be visiting again until it changes.

Cons: No vegans options. expensive.

Tired decor dairy heavy food, - Edit
Hasn't really changed with the times. The food is nice though stodgy and a lot of the main courses contain cheese so it's all a bit fatty. Good salads but expensive. Only open in the day although periodically they do an evening event with 'ladies table gifts'. May not be as sexist as it sounds - never been because the evening menus are set and always seem to contain blue cheese.

A bit old fashioned and few vegan options - Edit
This place is a bit weird to be honest. Although I live in Leicester I've only been there once and that was enough. You go up a staircase into an enormous two-level restaurant decorated with fake wood panelling, dried flowers and cottage style decor that makes it look like something out of a 70s cookbook. Although we visited at lunchtime on a Saturday the place was dead though, with total silence and just one person eating in the corner! Given the size of the place, this made us feel a bit weird and awkward - even some music or something would have helped! The food was arranged on a canteen style counter in the corner, with hot dishes sitting on a food warmer. You just chose what you wanted from there and it wasn't cooked fresh. A girl emerged from the kitchen, but didn't seem to have a clue what was vegan or not. After she had checked we ended up with some salad and a casserole-type thing, which was extremely expensive for what we got (and weirdly came on a plate with a bit of cheap supermarket baguette and half of the biggest and most anaemic looking tomato I've ever seen). I didn't bother enquiring about dessert as we had already spent lots and didn't imagine they would have many vegan options. I got the impression that this had once been a thriving old-style vegetarian cafe, but that it needs seriously updating. In the past I would just have been happy to find somewhere serving vegan food and wouldn't have cared if it was of the stodgy, unseasoned, overpriced variety, but there are so many new places in the area experimenting with different flavours and styles of cooking that I won't be visiting this place again unless I hear they've had an overhaul of the menu.

Not good for vegans - Edit
It doesn't seem to be good for vegans, though I've never been past looking at the menu outside. Maybe they're ok if you ask? Brilliant shop though, especially for alternative therapy supplies (herbs etc)
