The pub food I came for

How many proper British pubs with a fully vegan menu do you know? There aren't that many, and I'd been following this one on their social media for over a year before I finally managed to visit (all the way from Scotland by public transport!).

Expect solid pub fare, and just that - the food is not gonna win a Michelin star, but is hearty, and the portions are big. I came specially for the Juicy Marbles fillet because I finally wanted to taste it. Good choice, but I honestly expected the fillet to be slightly bigger.

The cheesecake was so-so, not the best I've had in my life, and I have a question: why serve it with liquid cream instead of whipped cream?? I was a bit perplexed as I automatically expected whipped cream. What was I supposed to do with a liquid - pour it over...? Slightly confused there.

I'll be back if passing through South Wales again, but I will probably not travel again just for this pub alone.

Oh, and the staff are very nice and attentive, and the playlist was one of the best I've heard in a vegan restaurant!

Amazing Sunday roast

Fantastic fully vegan menu. We visited on a Sunday and had a choice of around 8 mains (I think 5 of them were traditional Sunday roast choices with all the trimmings) and about 5 starters.
Best vegan Sunday roast I’ve ever had in a restaurant. There were loads of choices for dessert too and I almost had choice paralysis at that stage! I eventually settled on the apple crumble stuffed cookie with custard - which I’m told was a new addition. Husband had the chocolate ch**escake with ice cream.
Wait staff were great, super friendly and attentive.
Can’t wait to go again and was totally worth the 200 mile round trip! Wish I could give more than 5 stars.

Fabulous Sunday Roast!

First time trying the Sunday Roast here and it definitely did not disappoint! A really good variety to choose from. All the vegetables were lovely and it was great to have a Yorkshire Pudding too!
Nice that you can order a small portion of mains for little belly's.

Wonderful pub - for vegan & non vegans!

Fantastic pub with great food, for vegan & non-vegans alike!
We’ve now been three times and are planning our next trip in the New Year.
Highly recommend!
Dogs more than welcome. 🐾

Update: we went back in August 2024 and it’s still great with so much choice! ✨

Update: Xmas dinner 2024 - fantastic as always. 🎄 the staff were exceptional.

Update: Veganuary 2025 - 10/10 🌱🤍

Updated: March 2025 - had to go back for the chocolate orange cake and the lemon chik’n wings - delicious!
The tofysh & chips is great but very filling! 🐟

Update: June ‘25 - we had the share platter. A LOT of food for two people but very tasty 😋

Update: July ‘25 - we had the Chinese sharing plate and it was great. 😍 we ordered a side of chilly beef (we think they should swap the ribs on the platter for the chilli beef for sure! ☺️)

Update: August ‘25 - We had the chippy-tea. Very tasty! Also had the biscoff cheesecake which was nice but I prefer the Jaffa cake. 🍊

Update: December ‘25 - annual Christmas dinner 😍
Chik’n wings were amazing, tofu tenders were okay, filet was incredible, borek was okay, tiramisu was delicious, baklava was okay. 🎄

Update: Veganuary ‘26 - great time as always. Can’t fault the staff, always so nice and so dog friendly. The wings are finally spicy 😍👏🏻

A must-visit for vegans

Simply the best pub meal you’ll find anywhere. Perfect treat after a walk up the mountain or biking along the canal. If you’re in the area, you must check it out!

Twixmas menu and first visit

Friendly Welsh pub with good choice of beers and full menu of vegan food. Highly recommended although the Abergavenny Red wine was not quite to my taste. We chose the Ultimate Sharer because there was too much choice - recommended for 2-3 diners. It was lovely although the Mac and cheese was a little underwhelming. Dog friendly pub. Highly recommended although you are likely to need to prebook if you want food. I think you can go in for a drink without booking.

Lives up to the hype!!

I’m so glad to have finally eaten here and can’t wait to try their different seasonal menus.
Had the 3 course Christmas meal for £35 and it was absolutely incredible.
Huge portions, quality food, great variety and plenty of gluten free options. They also have alcohol free wine (red, white and rose)!
The tiramisu cheesecake was standout I could not believe how good it was!!

Great vegan pub

I can't rate The Queen Inn highly enough! The staff are so friendly and clearly really exited about about what they are producing. As vegans it's great to be able to choose from an entire menu, with options for those who like meat alternatives and those who do not. We had chilli beef ( on the waitresses recomendation) and it was amazing. We then had hunters chicken and juicy marbles fillet, both were outstanding.
We had such a lovely meal that we went back for lunch the next day, we had a chicken burger and fish and chips, again both were great.
We can't wait to visit again.

Oct 25...Back again for Sunday roast, Steak and Ale pie and Mustard and herb crusted beef...my goodness how lovely 😍

An absolute gem of a place

I first visited in February 2022 when it had not long become fully vegan. This is my first time back to the area since (October 2025) and it’s great to see it going from strength to strength. Absolutely top notch food, generous portions and not over priced. It’s a must visit for anyone who enjoys good food.

So good

We booked for Sunday lunch & enjoyed everything we ordered. There was a good choice of starters-we had mac & cheese, and mushroom pate on pinsa bread. The starters were good sized portions. The mains were delicious-my herb crusted beef was tender and tasty & served with a Yorkshire pudding, red cabbage, sprouts, carrots, and peas & roast potatoes. We also had the herb chicken served with the same accompaniments. I would have liked more veg-as 2 sprouts, 1 slice of parsnip & 2 roasties seemed a bit frugal- but the plate was full so perhaps I’m just fond of vegetables!
Although we were full we needed to try desserts and were pleased with our vanilla & caramel cheesecakes.
We enjoyed our meals and would recommend

Pros: Free WiFi, Clean toilets, Reasonably priced

Amazing menu!

We would never have found this place, had it not been for Happy Cow, but so glad we did. The menu selection is amazing! Good size portions, friendly, laid back atmosphere and great service. Even our dog loved it….. the doggy sausages went down a treat. Well worth a visit if you are anywhere near the area, even if it means a bit of a drive.

Vegan Heaven

This is in an idyllic location with duck pond at the front. A friendly down to earth local pub discreetly serving the most amazing Vegan food. We have been twice now, we were allowed to stay overnight in our camper last year but needed to head home this time. We bravely took on the ultimate sharer this time but brought lots home in order to fit in a piece of caramel cheesecake.
