SO GOOD - Edit
Heard many a time that UVK is great. Finally went because it was close by (23rd St CE station). Oh my goodness! Absolutely fantastic. The vibes are immaculate, with excellent music, decor and staff. I think the best chick’n and waffles in the city. Delicious loaded broccoli. The orange juice based mocktail with cinnamon was also divine. And what a treat to have a non alcoholic espresso martini!

Funky vegan joint - Edit
This waiter-served place offers down-home vegan food in but clean and roomy setting, with friendly staff and funky decor. I am not sure how healthy everything is, but the food I have had here (and at their Queens location) is quite good; I plan to come back!

DELICIOUS - Edit
loved everything about our visit to UVK! We visited from the UK, and after watching some tik tok’s and seeing reviews on happy cow we added as a must visit, and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The service was lovely, the food was delicious, the decor was super cool. It was a great chill atmosphere and food came quickly. We had some sharing starters and then both got chicken and waffles! We left absolutely stuffed! Thanks so much for having us!

Lacking flavor - Edit
Nice servers at this funkily-decorated place. Sadly they didn’t have their Chicken and Waffles for some reason, so I went with the Tofuego sandwich with a side of onion rings.
Read moreWhat the menu doesn’t mention is that the “side of onion rings” is 3 onion rings. Not only that, but you know how onions typically have a couple bad, papery outer layers? One of my 3 onion rings was made from that tough, papery layer! They were crunchy and had rosemary on them, but desperately needed salt and a side sauce other than ketchup. Totally not worth it. Fries would probably be better
The tofuego sandwich was anything but spicy. The tofu was crunchy, which was good, and the potato bun was also nice, but the sandwich was incredibly dry.
Overall, the restaurant gets 1 star for being a clean, decorated vegan restaurant, and one bonus for kind workers. Otherwise, the food was just bleh. Though because of the rave reviews, I am wondering if I got incredibly unlucky…
Pros: Attentive staff, Clean bathroom
Cons: Food lacked flavor, Onion rings felt like a scam

Delicious food, all vegan - Edit
Casual restaurant with all vegan menu. The food is amazing and the staff is wonderful. We had the Korean barbecue wings which was one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten…for seitan, it wasn’t stringy or chewy either. We also had the Art of Choke pizza which was amazing and the delicious Tofuego sandwich. Yum!

They’re Back!! - Edit
One of our favorite restaurants is back in a new location! Of course, I had to get the chicken n’ waffles! 😋 my all time fave!
Read moreWe got the Brussel sprouts appetizer and it was so greasy (there was standing liquid in the bottom of the dish), I couldn’t even eat it, but we don’t really come here for health food 😅
Love the new spot, but they are just freshly opened so still have some kinks to work out. Hopefully they fix the leaky sink in the bathroom soon.

Iconic West Village Vegan Spot - Edit
I was first at UVK years ago and was sad to learn this location is going to close, we went here to get a 'last meal'!
Read moreIt's too bad this location is closing because the walls are just packed with cool photos, posters, NYC history and art, so much to look at! The people that work there are super nice & hip. We weren't too hungry because we had snacks not that long before so we just got a bowl of Potato Leek Soup and the Korean BBQ Wings small plate and a taste of our friends Chocolate Chip Tahini Cookie ice cream, it was all delicious! Try to get in before Jan 31st to savor one of best old school vegan restaurants of NYC! #Veganuary
Pros: Delicious vegan food, Cool decor, Friendly service
Cons: Closing permanently!

Delicious apps - Edit
1/14/24: We stopped in for apps and drinks in a large group of nonvegans. My partner and I ordered the crispy brussel sprouts and it was delicious! My partner also had the fried oyster mushroom and it was tasty. Hope to eat a proper meal here another time!

Urban Vegan goes sub standard - Edit
Really upset about my recent visit to Urban Vegan Kitchen after many years supporting NYC vegan restaurants, vegan groups, animal rights groups and animal sanctuaries.
Read moreThe new management does not at all meet the same level of excellence in vegan cuisine and courtesy that the previous owners of UVK and Blossom worked hard to achieve. I recently visited for a Vegan Hang Out Team event and was met by the new owner who greeted me, said they were out of the daily special dinner for f vegan steak kebabs to an event with a RSVP on Facebook where I have know the Vegan NYC web organizers & many local vegans for many years.
The organizers say d that VHOT was just st a "social meet up group" and they do d not welcome me at all. I am a longtime supporter & reviewer at Happy Cow.
This is clearly a take over and not friendly to vegans or anyone interested in health and wellness. I ended up eating at Spunto Thin Crust Pizza - also on Carmine. Shame on the sham owners & Vegan groups that are globally spokespersons for healthy vegan & vegetarian options in NYC.

Great spot with friendly (and vegan) staff.
Read moreHad a spicy burger with cashew cheese it was pretty good. Patty and French fries are homemade which is a must in the USA as it doesn’t happen that much.
Dessert was mud chocolate pie and was very very good (homemade too) but a bit too small (which was frustrating tbh)

Fully vegan place that you can have breakfast, brunch, lunch or have drinks... so truly an all-around option
Read moreI went for breakfast and ordered a half portion of scrambled tofu and the waffles. The waffles were ok (4 stars) but I love so much and it is so difficult to find vegan options that I was thrilled. The scrambled tofu was amazing (6 stars!).
Service was pretty good and they were happy to offer me a half portion of scrambled tofu, even though it was not explicit in the menu (and that allowed me to get the waffle).
Really worth the visit.
