Nichts besonderes - Edit
Wir waren hier im Rahmen der veganen kulinarischen Schnitzeljagd und kommen nicht wieder, es gab nur eine sehr fettige kleine Suppe und eine eher unfreundliche Bedienung.

Expensive, valid for novelty reasons - Edit
I'm not all that versed in Brazilian food, so trying Xodó felt like an experiment worth trying. I made a booking on their website, which aside from the menu is entirely in German.. so I wasn't really sure what I was agreeing to. On my arrival, I was welcomed by a jolly waiter who spoke Spanish, which meant communicating wasn't going to be an issue. I indicated I'd rather sit inside, so as to avoid the smoke from other guests.
Read moreAs a starter, I went for the caldo verde, which very much reminded me of my late grandma's recipe. Given that her husband was Portuguese, perhaps they're pretty much the same? Either way, the non-vegan version features two animal toppings, while they vegan one.. well, no extras, I'm afraid.
I was hoping the main course, ananas xodó vegan, would finally make me appreciate jackfruit as something more than a trendy ingredient.. and at 25.50 euro, I think it'd be fair to expect a creation out of the ordinary. Alas, it wasn't. I found the dish to be rather plain, with jackfruit chunks that didn't seem to be all that cooked, let alone marinated. The good thing was that there was plenty of pineapple left that could serve as a dessert, cause vegan desserts sell out quickly, they said. Why not make more, then?
I wasn't the only customer bothered by the smoke occasionally entering the room, in fact the folks next to me decided to close the window for that very reason, it seemed. Other than that, I did enjoy the grandma nostalgia as well as the overall experience, but I would regard Xodó (previously marked as moderately expensive) as a rather pricy place.

Welcomed Warmly - Edit
We had a great evening at Xodó! The waiters were super friendly, and we were excited to try the authentic vegan Brazilian dishes. The vegan tapas mix had a lot of different flavors, and the Moqueca was very tasty and filling. I loved the colorful designs and the rainforest-themed wall. We'll definitely be back!
