Read on… My background is media and communication, and my goal as a scholar is to better understand the ways that digital media has transformed vegan advocacy. My current PhD looks at vegan apps, considering the role they play in vegan lifestyles and ethical consumerism in Australia. My PhD does not involve app development, but rather, it seeks to explore the potential for vegan apps to bring about a better world. Drawing from the literature on ethical consumerism and vegan politics. My data will be collected through an interview and observation in Brisbane, Australia. During this, I will ask questions around the motivations for vegan app use, and the role that vegan apps play in ethical decision making (e.g., when deciding where to eat and what to buy).
