“Chinese” food at its finest! - Edit
The best vegan Chinese food ever! So good and tasty. We ordered quite a variety of items and were satisfied with all of it. We ordered for delivery straight from website a d Sammy called to ask us to reorder as there was a glitch on their website. Super great service and quick.

Awesome! - Edit
I just loved this place. The food was amazing and the portions were huge. We tried the General Tsoa's chicken, the lemon chicken, and some veggies with tofu, mushrooms, veggies, and cashews. The best parts were the "chickens." I couldn't pick my favourite because they were so great. Everything about them was perfect.

Amazing Food!!!! - Edit
Everything I have tried at Buddha's has been amazing. What it lacks in atmosphere (I say that though I don't actually mind the atmosphere but it can get pretty noisy and chaotic at times) it more than makes up for in taste and value. Bean curd sheet, ginger beef, and shrimp with spicy salt for the win.

Cons: Can be pretty noisy

Huge Portions - Edit
We ordered takeaway here for a quick easy dinner. The food we received lasted us for at least two days!
Read moreThe food itself was not very flavourful. It seemed like something you could make at home with ease, possibly that comes from the fact that the menu has so many options.
For the price and sizes of the meals, I recommend trying Buddha’s. The staff are very helpful in explaining the menu and offering their suggestions, only one meal was not vegan.
Pros: Portion size

Always amazing - Edit
I've been coming here for about 20 years. I LOVE this place. Recently changed the name from vegetarian to vegan (!) & spiffed up the menu a bit. But still amazing food (mock duck I could eat you everyday) & amazing service.

Brilliant - Edit
Don’t let the appearance of this place put you off. I almost walked away but am so glad I didn’t. Staff are really friendly and a pot of green tea was on the table almost before I had sat down. Good range of options on the menu and. As others have said, food comes quickly and in big portions so come when you’re hungry. Quality is great - freshly prepared and steaming hot. Definitely worth a visit.

Hard to Go Wrong - Edit
Okay, it's possibly to go wrong but Buddha's is still pretty damned good. You get huge portions (often enough for 2 or 3 meals!) at very reasonable prices. All of the meat analogues are very well done and you can get many of them frozen if you want.
Read moreOne thing I will say in the (sort of) negative is that I personally don't care for some of the dishes that ALL fake meat and nothing else. When I ordered the General Tao's Chicken, I was expecting it on a bed of rice or something. However it was just a bunch of imitation chicken that I soon got tired of eating. Go for the dishes that contain noodles or rice...#34 (Fried Rice Noodles w/ Veggie Beef in Black Bean Sauce) and #52. (Black Pepper Soya Steak on Pan-Fried Noodles) are two of my favorites.
For the most part, it's a great place: hole-in-the-wall decor, friendly staff, cheap veggie eats. Can't go wrong.
Pros: Large portions, Great value, Excellent meat analogues
Cons: Some dishes are better than others

meh... - Edit
Cheap, large portions but not particularly good... the sausage roll appetizers were delicious but the duck with noodles was not good at all. It was covered in a thick sauce that didn't taste if anything but far too much salt. The fried dumplings and spring rolls were also very underwhelming. This restaurant definitely did not live up to the high hopes I had for it after reading reviews.

oookay. - Edit
This place is just okay. The mapo tofu was really odd, it has peas in it and the sauce isn't the same flavor as traditional mapo. They also don't accept credit cards so if you're a foreigner you'll need cash. In my panicked scramble to pay with cash, I forgot to leave a tip so sorry to them if they read this! Not intentional, I swear.

Enormous portions for cheap!! - Edit
This might be my favourite vegan restaurant in Toronto. The portions are enormous, the food is delicious, and the bill is always half what you expect it to be. Great Chinese vegan food. Highly recommended.

Bland - Edit
We decided not to cook in the house tonight and made the road trip to Buddha's. We've heard lots about it. The prices were good and the food pipping hot and fresh.
Read moreEgg plant/tofu in black bean sauce - I found the tofu chunks too big.

Well worth a try - Edit
To be frank, if I wasn't famished the first time we stumbled accross this place i would have looked in and walked out. It is now a family favorite - even impressing a very carnivor family member. The front has about 6 tables, but there are more tucked in the back. it us always a hub of activity but the food arrives hot within minutes of ordering. Our favorite dishes are the general taos chicken and the duck. The dishes are larger than you would expect. ( a word of caution - we usually leave with left overs) The prices are very resonable.

I've been going to Buddha's Vegetarian for over 10 years, and it is definitely one of my favourite Toronto vegetarian restaurants. The food is delicious, comes out fast and hot, and the price - you can't get better than the price. I agree with others - don't go here alone. Bring a friend and if you order more than 1 entree, be prepared to bring some home. I also love the no-frills attitude. It just works.

I love this place - Edit
This is still my favourite restaurant in Toronto after over 15 years!!!! They use very fresh ingredients and if you like huge meaty shitake mushrooms, look no further. I love the crispy spring spring rolls, imitation duck, soy rolls, and hot and sour soup... the cashew dish is also very nice or try the beancurd with mixed vegetables, like the duck, but loaded with veggies and Chinese delights like black moss and bamboo fungus. Bring a container for leftovers and eat all week!!!!

Best hole in the wall ever - Edit
don't go here looking for charm. accept what it is. it's a hole in the wall. it's amazing. anyone who gives this place a bad review doesn't know what to order or is looking for something that this place is not. the people who run this place are friendly as long as you're not a [censored]. the fake duck is absolutely outstanding. the spring rolls are delicious. anyone who likes veggies should be able to appreciate that the veggies are always fresh. the veggie dish with cashews is really good. i no longer live in the area but i make a point to come back here every time i am in the neighborhood. i love this place beyond words. it's cheap. big portions. good food. go get some fake duck already!

quantity over quality - Edit
Well, they definitely have massive portions. When my boyfriend and I went I wasn't expecting such huge portions and thought it was weird when our server walked away halfway through our order. I guess they assumed we knew we'd be getting a huge casserole dish of food! So we ordered two dishes plus the large appetizer special. I can't say I really enjoyed any of it though. One of the things in the appetizer was okay, it was really the only thing that had a distinguishable flavour from everything else (it was gluten that had a sauce that was a bit sweet and acidic). It seemed like the sauce they used was just soy sauce, corn starch and water. Same sauce on both things we ordered.

Well, the ambience isnt exactly 5 star, but its cozy, the service is friendly, the food is magnificant and very reasonable, and as an added nice bonus, it's very very vegan friendly. Also they have heaps of free buddhist literature. Great place. If you're in the neighbourhood, give it a try!
