Great place, delicious varied food - Edit
I've been to this restaurant couple times already and it never disappointed me. The menus dishes change and everytime they surprise me with the options they offer. I really like that they do various, interesting things where you can appreciate the combination of flavors and presentation (not hummus and veggie burger like in most of the places). It's a must to try if you are in Tarragona! Ah and the desserts are A M A Z I N G.

Read moreWaitstaff were excellent! We ordered off the mini-menu (carrot/ginger/sweet potato soup chocolate cake for my wife)(satay skewers and cheesecake for me). Everything tasted fantastic, but the soup and the cheesecake were our favorites. Shared a bottle of cava.

Wonderful Vegan Experience - Edit
The food here was absolutely to die for. We (myself and partner) had the privilege of staying less than a five minute walk from El Vergel. We ended up eating here 3 times in our week long trip to Tarragona. We would have gone every night if we could, but obviously the lovely staff had to rest, so they were closed some evenings.

Not only was the food beautiful, the price was so reasonable, which just added to our overall experience.
I would also like to shout out to the sweetest staff member who served us on our first and last meal, so friendly and showed genuine interest in us and other customers (and the little four legged doggies). Thank you for adding that special touch to our holiday. Gracias 🌱

Read moreMinutes walk from the cathedral, you go through the door and up stairs. This is a big restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. We were able to sit very comfortably with our two big dogs. They were out of pizza which was a shame as that was what we really wanted. The staff were so friendly. We had the chick’n burger and chorizo meal. We personally found both meals to be a bit oily, but we don’t eat a lot of oil, so we really pick up on it. The main meals were around 13/15 euros, and there is a meal of the day for 16 or 22 euros (2 or 3 courses).

This is the only option in the area. Unfortunately the vegetarian one closed. It's expensive for a few portions of food. Furthermore food has lost many quality but you can always find polite staff there.

We visited the restaurant twice during our stay. They have a QR code menu, (which didn't work one time). We were very impressed with the vegan chorizo. The rest of the menu was fantastic as well. The service is friendly and attentive. The location is beautiful. Highly recommended.

The mushroom croquettas were perfect. Crunchy on the outside and a rich ragout on the inside. As a Dutchie that's how I think a croquetta (or "kroket" in Dutch) is properly made.
The nachos were fully loaded indeed and my soy burger scratched the junkfood-itch.
Unfortunately no more room left for desert😉
Good food, big portions, nice staff and pretty surroundings. Winner!

Yet another review I need to update after 9 years. The beautiful autumn shadows played their way across the Plaça de la Font in the picturesque coastal town of Tarragona. We made our way to El Vergel for the first time since 2016. I still felt the same form of twisted anxiety when entering a highly anticipated vegan place. Everything was perfect and the food was sublime. We visited 3 times. Twice for their legendary 3-course lunch menu and once on an evening where we sampled their gourmet burgers. This is an ultra exceptional restaurant.

Restaurante vegano en Tarragona que dispone de un menú del día (primero, segundo y postre) y una selección de entrantes que van aparte (de tipo croquetas, patatas bravas, nuggets, etc.). También se puede pedir medio menú. La comida me pareció muy buena y el ambiente fue agradable. Disponen de tronas para bebés y cuadernos de pintar para que se entretengan hasta que llegue la comida.

The chorizo tasted quite authentic and we loved the batatas bravas. I deeply enjoyed their tea selection, which is quite vast and their service was lovely. The nachos were 7.5/10, and the croquettas were delicious, but too rich. I think it lacked an acid such as lemon, but would be great with a glass of wine. The only wines they offer to buy by glass are the dry wines, so we didn’t try them, but I think this dish would pair really well with one. It would balance it.

Vegans don’t just want vegan tacos or burgers or anything that demonstrates how good vegan food can mimick the meat. Most of the time we also want to eat our healthy risotto with broccoli, gazpacho, or even some soup with balls. This restaurant delivers exactly that: delicious vegan food that is also good for your health and perfectly presented. To this day it’s the best vegan restaurant you can find in the area.

Another Superb Visit - Edit
I visited El Vergel in May 2025 for lunch. I had a lovely table by an open window which overlooks the street below and a short distance from Tarragona Cathedral. I chose the Menu Del Dia, which is excellent value at €20,90. I had a beetroot salad starter, risotto main and a mille-feuille dessert. Can’t wait to revisit in September when we return to Spain.

Read moreThe lady who served us was very friendly and the menu was full of freshly cooked, carefully selected items with a three course offer that was extremely good value that we tried.
We had a beetroot tagline and a chickpea salad starter, which tasted very good and was presented beautifully. Main course we had were the black pizza which had delicious dough, and the burger and the lasagne. All very hearty and home made. The dessert was a cafe crème and a cream pastry which was so good.
Highly recommend eating here if you visit the area. You won’t be disappointed

My husband and I stopped here for lunch and enjoyed their special offer of a starter, main and dessert for €21. The quality and presentation of each of the dishes was incredible and our absolute favourite dish was the black pizza - truly unmissable! There is a calm vibe and lots of photos of rescued animals on the walls, which is a lovely touch. Exactly the kind of place I want to see thrive! It is the only vegan restaurant in Tarragona at time of writing so it's an absolute must visit if you're in the area!

Great food near ancient ruins - Edit
Stumbled across this place on an evening walk. From the street it looks deserted but very nice once you get upstairs. Food was delicious. Had the black pizza which I highly recommend. Soup was good. Beet salad looked delicious as did the chicken sandwich. Dessert was fantastic, recommend the cheese cake or the chocolate pie.
