Great service, ok food - Edit
AYCE pizza, awesome idea, don't see this kind of thing too often at vegan restaurants. The pizza was like your typical [censored] bar pizza, for better or worse. For me, I found that it started great but the more full I got the worse the pizza tasted. I will say their made in house sausage (the ingredient) is phenomenal.
Read moreThe fries were a little disappointing. Not crispy at all.
The dipping sauces were good. And the service was excellent.
If you're a bit of a pizza snob I recommend you stick to the traditional flavors on your visit.

Yummy brekkie and burgers! - Edit
I had The Mountain and it was really good! My mom did a build your breakfast with mushrooms, potatoes, and tempeh bacon…it was a little strange that they all came out in separate dishes instead of just on one plate so you could eat them together. We also got burgers to go and they were good too!

Was so happy to find this spot while passing through salt lake—we went two times in the 12 hours we were in town! We’ll priced for the portions, yummy food with lots of options, great decor (animals🥺), and good service. Yay for vegans in salt lake

Great place! - Edit
Such delicious food. The prices were amazing, the food was delicious, and the service was quick! Everybody was very kind. I deducted a star because my spouse and I both got French toast; his was over-cooked and mine was still raw in some places. The French toast also had like four berries on it. Aside from that, it was absolutely delicious and we cannot wait to come back someday!

Traditional breakfast!! - Edit
A great place for anyone (like me) who misses a traditional diner breakfast. It’s that but veganized! Tons of options, friendly staff, and indoor and outdoor seating.

You can tell the staff is committed to Vertical Diner and appreciate your business. While construction is expected to last until July, don’t let it detour you from visiting. We went around 12:00 on a Saturday and had no problems parking and getting to the restaurant.
Read moreI gave it four stars because of my meal. I had the tofu scramble with potatoes, tempeh bacun and pancakes. I have had better tofu scramble and the tempeh bacun was just not for me. Our server offered to swap it out if I wanted something different, which was very nice! . I was provided hot sauce and added it to the tofu scramble with jazzed it up. Pancakes and potatoes were good and basic.
Pros: Outdoor seating, Friendly staff, Breakfast all day

So much choice - Edit
I can see why this place had so many reviews. Although a bit of a trench through some building works to get there we were really impressed once we sat down. We were overwhelmed by choice. I chose ‘the mountain’ breakfast - the tempeh tasted super sweet but was nicely counteracted by the other savoury flavours. As a Brit I was also so happy to get a decent mug of tea in America. Hope to get back soon on this trip!

Cozy vegan dining - Edit
When we visited Vertical, the street in front was torn up so we had to drive in circles to park and then walk across the mud to reach the front door. But it was well worth the slight detour, and I wasn't surprised to see that there weren't a lot of available seats.
Read moreThe menu has a good selection of comfort food dishes. We all ordered burgers, and I scarfed down the Morrissey (lentil burger with cashew truffle chevre). I got it with the salad, which was generously sized, while the rest of my party ordered the chili, which I tasted. Really good: I was lucky they let me have a bite. The Han's kombucha, locally produced, was outstanding. For anyone who doesn't like kombucha, the list of drinks was long.
Service was A , and we picked up some dessert bars at the counter for our upcoming plane ride. Also yummy
I will be back on my next visit to SLC.

I’m new to the SLC area so it was a nice surprise to enjoy this diner. The pancakes were fantastic and the biscuits and gravy left me completely satisfied. They also serve local coffee which tasted divine.

Absolutely Incredible - Edit
Tender Tigers - Delicious, crispy goodness on any day; would not recommend the Buffalo version, it’s personally an aggressive, synthetic tasting, non-savory type of spice.
Read moreThe Avalanche - Will always leave you feeling full and ready for the day. Perfectly spiced hash, fluffy scramble, and would recommend the heart sauzage.
Biscuits and Gravy - Will make you forget this is an all vegan restaurant.
Carrot Cake a la Mode - Moist, creamy, and the perfect balance of sugar. Will make you feel ways Ben nor Jerry was able to. Go to desert!
Pros: Clean, friendly, and hard working staff

Quirky Diner for a Solo Traveller - Edit

Just what was needed! - Edit
My first time in SLC and desperately wanted a decent brunch! It definitely had a pretty authentic diner feel. I had their chikun Caesar salad, which was awesome. My dad had the pancakes, tofu scramble, and Seiten bacon. I didn’t much care for the flavor and texture of the Seiten.

Great Diner Feel - Edit
It’s so nice when everything is plant-based so you don’t have to carefully inspect the menu and ask tons of questions to the server.
Read moreI had as an appetizer the “Tender Tigers” which had great texture and a good fried crispy outside. The vegan ranch to dip in was super tasty. The only disappointment was my sandwich. I ordered the Reuben and if Yupik are going to make a Reuben, it needs to be thin sliced whatever product is used. There’s is made from tempeh and it comes with big strips of it so that unless you cradle the sandwich with both hands, the tempeh is going to fall out. It comes with house made sauerkraut which was tasty, but super light portions. Sauerkraut needs to be piled on a Reuben. I got a side of the Mac n Cheese - AMAZING. Super savory, no coconut flavors which plagues many vegan Mac & Cheese’s. The hemp brownie was super tasty which I took to go and enjoyed with a cup of coffee. The staff was super friendly and I hate to be negative about the reuben, but it made me wish I would have tried the German sausage or the Philly Cheesesteak. I forgot to take pics, but definitely visit when you are in SLC.

Delicious food but slow service - Edit
This was everything I wanted from a diner in terms of food. I got the Dudecakes which were delicious pancakes covered in gravy, peppers, onion, mushrooms, and fries. Vegan, but not necessarily healthy!
Read moreMy only complaint is that the service was a bit slow. Our server was very polite and friendly. I think they were just busy, so I'm not upset about it. It was just a bit longer than I expected from a diner.

Couldn’t say enough wonderful things! - Edit
The food, the staff, the location, did I mention the food? I was totally taken aback that Salt Lake City had such a plethora of vegan restaurants. We happened into Vertical Diner after a long plane ride and we took a chance. It totally paid off. This is such a vibrant restaurant. The staff is enthusiastic and very personable. The owner was training our server and came to our table several times. We discussed that I had been a restaurant owner in the past. We discussed front of the house and back of house staff. We discussed the comprehensive menu. We ate so much food and took food back to our hotel with us. My husband had the French toast as dessert! And was it delicious. I have limitations on what I can eat for my health. And they were completely fulfilled by this restaurant. I had the Rueben. I typically can’t finish off any meal and I eat small portions throughout the day. I slaughtered the sandwich. Then I took back to the hotel with me the TBLAT. It was delicious the next morning before my flight. My husband took to hotel the Asian noodles. Also, delicious the next morning. I have eaten vegan food all over the world and I have to say this is one of my favorite spots. I’m actually going back to Salt Lake City in June and I will be haunting the Vertical Diner. One of the most impressive things the owner told me was that other vegan restaurant owners in the area eat at this restaurant. They advertise each others’ restaurants with table tents. I’ve never seen that. It’s a very supportive collective.

Not understanding the hype - Edit
Im honesty just disappointed. I got a pretty fair amount of food and coffee but I wasn’t very stoked on any of it. The mac and cheese was really good, I’ll admit to that. The mac is good, but the toppings were sad. I got the one with tempeh and broccoli but the tempeh tasted like dry plain peanuts and the broc was just barely steamed and definitely not seasoned. Also

Diner my shiny, shiny love - Edit
If you're looking for a plant-based place to chill and talk in a classic diner setting, this is totally for you. The vibe was so chill and casual, and the staff is so nice and patient.
Read moreMy husband absolutely loved the banana pancakes I ordered--they were perfectly moist, evenly crispy around the edges. The bananas were fresh and rich, placed just right in the batter, and the portion size was perfect. I loved the bombastic combo he got, too--the biscuits and gravy were so well seasoned, and the herbs on the sauzage makes me wanna go back. The tofu scramble was delish, and while I wasn't prepared for the potatoes to be spicy, wow were they good and cooked so perfectly. I kept wanting to eat past the sting. They were crispy on the outside and nicely done on the inside.
The prices were on par with places like iHOP, Denny's, and cheaper than Black Bear. The portions are just enough, and they don't mess around with their appetizers, either. Leave room for dessert--the tiramisu is to die for. From the nachos to the pancakes, it all heated up very well in their take home boxes and we enjoyed it the afternoon after. So, so good.
I'd love to take my friends there for a morning of breakfast, coffee and bullshit. I can't wait to go back.
Pros: Very chill atmosphere, Fantastic diner-style food, Very nice staff
