My RVA go-to

I love 821- I go about once a week! My favorites are the chick’n satay kabobs with a peanut sauce, vegan caesar salad, chick’n sandwich, and they have different vegan cakes every week which are always incredible!

Pros: Many vegan options , Cheap, Location

Delicious Food & Great Service

Took a little bit of time to get our food but that’s only because they were packed with orders (COVID-19). The app wouldn’t let me give them 5 stars

Pros: Great Variety, Amazing service , I was so hungry I forgot to take a picture

Reliably good!

This is not a vegan restaurant, but they have vegan options. I got chai french toast, vegan tofu burrito and a bagel with vegan butter. The chai french toast was so good I ordered a second plate. The tofu burrito is good, but if they have order the french toast

Pros: Good vegan fare, easy parking, friendly service

Cons: Not completely vegan.

Cozy, hipster, breakfast with a fresh take on diner food

I had the vegan chai French toast with vegan sausage. It was soooo yummy! Highly recommend although get there earlier to avoid the wait.

Good food

I thought this place was tasty. They also have decaf coffee which being pregnant I was greatly appreciative. They have soy milk and silk creamers. The main photo for the listing is a stack of pancakes (which are vegetarian not vegan if anyone was wondering). I had the chi French toast, tofu scramble, and grits. Lots of hot sauce choices, which is always a plus for me. My only complaint is they wont do a smaller French toast portion ( like they offer the side stack of pancakes).

So vegan/vegetarian friendly!

There were so many vegan and vegetarian choices and they were so good - pancakes, waffles, tofu scramble, rosemary potatoes, mock chicken satay, mock chicken sandwich - all delicious. (But nobody's perfect. The veggie sausage... I wouldn't order it again.) We would have returned if we'd been in town longer. Don't be put off by the rather desolate look to the outdoor surroundings. Inside is a warm, snug, diner style place with really good food and really hearty portions.

Pros: There are at least 15 vegan selections., There are also vegetarian selections.

Cons: The vegan sausage - not too tasty

Fantastic Place

I simply love this restaurant. The food is fantastic. My husband and I have been here several times and each time the food and drinks were outstanding. It can get a little crowded but service is quick and they keep the traffic moving. The pancakes are one of my favorites.

Pros: Plenty of vegetarian choices and ample portions.

Cons: Small restaurant, larger building would be nice.

Best vegan brunch

Favorite vegan brunch in Richmond. Try the chicken satay skewers- they are always delicious. The vegan chicken sandwiches are made of the same mock meat as the satay and it is the best vegan chic’n I’ve had.

821 cafe

Amazing. Great variety of vegan and vegetarian options. Great incorporation of vegan foods into traditional, Western appearance (phenomenal vegan shishkabobs and they serve the Impossible Burger). Favorite place to eat, really cool atmosphere. Bringing non-veg friends/family here will definitely impress them

Pros: Good variety of food, beer, Friendly staff, Cool environment

Cons: Parking

821 Cafe is a fun eclectic place with good vegan options

Took my daughter and friends here for a late lunch and was very impressed. We were a mixed group of vegan, vegetarian, and meat eaters. There were really good choices for all. The Vegan Breakfast Burrito is really good. So is the Vegan Chilly. I also tried the Vegan Fried Chicken Sandwich (VEGAN) and liked it. Fun place near VCU area too.

Pros: Good Vegan Options, Great Vegan Breakfast Burrito, Very friendly staff

Cons: Might have a wait around meal times

Loved it.

Went and got the vegan fried chicken sandwich. The best vegan option I've ever gotten from a restaurant. I couldn't believe I wasn't eating meat!!

OK

With all of the tasty vegan options available in Richmond, I have no reason to visit 821 again. From the coffee to the tofu scramble, to the vegan sausage to the potatoes, nothing was terrible, but nothing will bring my omni GF or me back.

Pros: They have tofu

Cons: They were out of a lot of stuff, like avocados.

Breakfast Burrito is the way to go

I have eaten here a few times and have always enjoyed it. My roommate and I get the breakfast burrito regularly and it never disappoints. They sometimes have vegan desserts, like red velvet cake!

Average

Be careful with the menu at this restaurant. Items listed as vegan or you would assume are vegan (fried tofu) are cooked in the same fryer as meat. The vegan chili, black bean burger, and the vegan angel hair pasta entree were flavorful.

Pros: Friendly servers

Cons: All fried items are cooked in the same fryer

not that great

This place has some vegan choices but it's just not very good. My husband asked for a vegan breakfast wrap and got a regular one. I had the tofu scramble and it was awful. I'll never go back. Waitress was nice.

Great atmosphere, buffalo tofu sandwich is INSANE

I love this place - the staff are extremely friendly and there's always a really warm vibe. The Buffalo Tofu sandwich is one of my favorite sandwiches in the world. The Vegan Chicken Salad is great and can be added onto other salads for an upcharge. The specials are cool, beer selection is great, and out door seating in warm weather.

Pros: Buffalo Tofu sandwich, Vegan desserts, Friendly staff

Cons: Their "Chicken" is kind of rubbery, Could always use more veggie options

Good stuff

Fairly good number of vegan options, good service. This place is a cool joint. I liked the thin pasta. However there should be more gluten free options.

Pros: choice, pasta, service

Cons: not enough gluten free

Excellent vegan Selections, and They Deliver

I stayed at a hotel downtown and decided to try this place because I am vegan, and they deliver. I ordered the Buffalo Tofu Sandwich, which was so good that I ordered it twice. The first time I opted for onion rings, where excellent, the second time I asked for fried artichoke hearts (as a separate side), which were unbelievably good. The herbed orzo was a disappointment (did the job, just not amazing), but overall, if what I ordered is any indication of the quality of the other vegetarian items on the menu, I will definitely order from this place again if I am ever in Richmond.

ACTUALLY... I was just informed that the Buffalo sauce AND the onion rings are NOT vegan, but I am certain the fellow I spoke with over the phone when I was there said they were vegan. So if you're vegan... BEWARE.

Finally, I am extremely grateful that they deliver. If you are staying downtown, there is almost nothing for vegetarians (many restaurants downtown don't even have a single vegetarian dish on the menu, although most will make one if you ask), and many places either close early or open late or are not opened at all on the weekends, so the fact that they are one of the few vegan-friendly places that deliver is hugely helpful.

Pros: Good Value, Friendly Staff

Cons: Need More Veggie Meat Analogues, Staff about vegan selections, Not vegan
