While it's great for a restaurant to "care" about the ethical treatment of animals, if they don't care about the ethical treatment of people, they're probably not worth giving your money to. Unfortunately, Anixi's management has zero respect for their employees. I got hired (very excited to work there as a long time vegan myself) and had 4 training shifts, all which I did. In my final 2 shifts I took tables and made hundreds in tips, none of which went to me. After training I was told I did very well and that the schedule would be sent out. However, I didn't hear anything so I reached out multiple times, finally being told it was coming... It never did come and neither had my training pay, so after reaching out some more I was told checks were there. I then came to get my checks, only to see that one of my shifts had been listed as a no show. The manager on shift apologized and said he put in the hours missing and that I'd be paid soon. Because Anixi is far for me, I emailed the GM asking if he could mail the final check to me.. I was told he couldn't (despite stamp costs being significantly less than subway costs). I finally arrived to get that check only to see it was an hour under what I'd worked for that shift. This level of pettiness is astounding to me. I won't fight over an hour, but I lost a SIGNIFICANT amount of money having stopped my other job to work there while being paid next to nothing and having spent so much on the required uniform.
What's worse is that because nothing was ever said to me or acknowledged when I asked about not working, I wouldn't be able to claim any unemployment for the weeks of work lost. Rent was due and I hadn't made any money as I was waiting on those shifts promised to me. The lack of acknowledgment and basic human respect was beyond anything I'd ever encountered in a work space.
