Do You Know Who I am?!

After pottering around the Old Town cum being harassed and harangued by every market stall owner in Deira (I look like Justin Bieber, apparently), this friendly oasis was both an apt location and blessed relief. While the authenticity of the heritage this place holds might be affected somewhat, and I could easily see why some would consider it twee, I was quite taken by it all and the staff couldn’t have been more lovely. This isn’t to say there weren’t a couple of awkward moments, namely when the server taking my order questioned the quantity of said requests, suggesting politely that it may be slightly excessive. To be fair to the poor soul, I can understand his thought process, and he did have my best intentions at heart, but whispers of my insatiable appetite obviously hadn’t drifted this far north in the city yet.
As for the food itself, there were plenty of options to choose from and it all arrived freshly prepared, in great time, and on predictably (yet fabulous) retro china. Of the many plates I sampled, the hummus with foul and hamssat dango were the standouts, though a special mention has to go also to the bajella and the tahini dip, the latter of which was especially superb.
In terms of Middle Eastern/Emirati cuisine, I couldn’t really fault this place; everything was as it should be and, in some cases, more.

Tea was great

Ordered the anis tea which was very tasty. The fruit platter is not recommended. Pricy and not a lot to eat.

Enjoyable

The hospitality in this place is fab. We dropped in on a quiet day and Hereford had full on attention and lots of complimentary dishes added to our order. Not loads of vegan options but definitely enough to have choice, ours included; quinoa salad, hummus, Yemeni veg stew, veg biryani. Lovely flavours, cute cafe space.
