Let’s Twist Again - Edit
Despite the outlandish number of incredible eateries I was lucky enough to frequent whilst visiting Singapore and Malaysia, there was one chain that really made an impression, and this was it.
Read moreIndeed, I never missed an opportunity to revel in their dough-based brilliance whenever I happened upon them when in the Far East. So, mere days after their arrival in my adopted homeland, I found myself dutifully queuing to get my fill once more.
In truth, I did have slight reservations as to whether they would be as good as I remembered: was it just a holiday romance? On first inspection of the menu, I was slightly perturbed by the absence of one of my favourite flavours, garlic, but this was immediately offset by the intrigue surrounding the as-yet-sampled jalapeño. The sight of other classic stalwarts, such as the cinnamon sugar and the sweet almond, put me further at ease and squarely back in the realms of unbridled optimism.
After having to wait for what seemed like an eternity (mere minutes) for the whole order to be freshly baked, it was finally time for my most unlikely of rendezvous to come to fruition. Wasting no more precious seconds, I dived headlong into the bag, grasped the plain pretzel and began to unceremoniously cram it in my face. As I did so, it was immediately apparent that the cherished memories that I held for these creations were entirely well-founded – it was glorious. Pillowy, soft, satisfyingly chewy, and with bags of flavour, I was in heaven.
From there, it just got better. Each time I dipped back into my stash, I found myself decreeing a new favourite. Ultimately though, that accolade went to the almond variety. While being pushed close by the spicy newcomer, its combination of sweetness and crunchiness was just enough to secure the top spot.
Even though this is far from a convenient location for me, following such a happy reunion, it’s going to be impossible to resist heading back for more.
