totally worth trying to find this place! Awesome menu

Finding places in Beijing is not so easy! Maps aren't super reliable, so I have taken some photos here so you can find this place - trust me - it's worth it!
If you head north along xisi north road from the Xisi subway station (towards Ping’anli station), stay on the east side of the road. You will pass by the Nostalgia Hotel on the same side as you should be on. The address “seems” to be 58 Xisi north road. It has a green sign and is next door to a barber shop that had a lit up red white and blue spiral thing that is ubiquitous to barber shops!
the menu is extensive and everything is vegan. Seriously amazing! And you can get a variety of vegan asian products to take home with you on the lower level. Highly recommended.

Pros: So many options!, Great value

Cons: tough to find! but worth it

Great shop, not so great restaurant

As described on the ground floor there is a shop which is mock meat heaven. I think we spend an hour looking at all the crazy things they have. Any type of meat and fish you know - they have a vegan version of it. They also sell some pastries that seemed to be homebaked. We came back another day to get some more of the super delicious sweet bread and little sesame balls filled with sweet been paste. So the shop would get 4-5 stars, however I was disappointed with the restaurant upstairs. The place is really not cosy. They didn't seem to have put a lot of love in it. We were the only ones there and the waiter wasn't very polite and didn't care much about us. The food was very greasy and nothing special. Moste of the dishes consist of the mock meat that they sell downstairs with only tiny amounts of veggies in it.
I especially disliked the homemade rainbow dumplings, they were missing a lot of flavour.
Portion sizes were good though.

Disaster

My first vegan restaurant attempt ended up in a disaster. First the coordinates are completly wrong. I ended up about 1km away from the real spot. Google map does not work in China and I can't read Chinese kanji, sorry. Second I finaly found the right address and went there. As described the restaurant was on 1st floor, on the ground floor is a shop. There was nobody from the personal in the restaurant. The place was almost empty only one company 4-5 people clients that wouldn't care at all for my presense. I waited 10min but nobody come. I looked arround and I didn't like the environment. The place is not very clean and not in a good order. Finaly I decided that it doesn't worth to wait more and left higly disapointed from my first vegan restaurant in China. Nevertheless I wish that Chinese people acept veganism more for the good of the animals, the planets and for their own health and more and better vegan restaurant are opened in the future. Pity since I had only this evening for vegan experience in Beijing and only god knows when or whether I will come again in Beijing. Anyway for the correct coordinates take off at Ping'anli metro station and head south on the left side of the street. This is the real N.Xisi street. Look for No.58 (red label). It is not far some 200-250m south. The real coirdinates are 39.928665N, 116.367064E. It would be good if Eric update the coordinates. Cheers.

Pros: Don't know

Cons: No customer service. Bit dirty.

Nice Place

The place is easy to find with the pictures on Happy Cow or with apple maps.

We first discovered the nice shop downstairs. It’s very good for vegans who don’t speak Chinese. We bought a lot of stuff. Vegan meat is just around 8 Y.

The Restaurant is in the first floor. The stuff looked more on his smartphone then on his guests, but we got our food very quick. We had mockmeat with some vegetables, different dumplings and spicy beans. We didn’t get rice, so maybe you have to order it separate. All taste quite nice but it was nothing special. The price was ok for Beijing we paid 86 Y.
The Menu have pictures but no English description.

Pros: A lot of vegan dishes, Nice shop

Cons: Stuff

Soooo good & affordable

Everything was delicious, I'm glad to be in Beijing for a couple days so I can ear here multiple times! I had a rough time chosing from the menu because everything looked freaking amazing!
It was very cheap around 35 RMB for main dish and 15-25 RMB for sides.
I also had a great time shopping downstairs, I wish I had more room in my luggage :(((

Pros: Vegan, Affordable, Absolutely delicious

Cons: No English explanation of the dishes

Tasty, got selection of local snacks

Went to the restaurant on a rainy day, so I was the only customer there for a long time. Service was prompt and professional enough. The server didn't get me utensils, but there were plenty lying around.

Food was excellent! I got a rice bowl w vegan meat crumbles and sauteed broccoli, lotus roots, wood ear mushroom, peppers (didn't catch any English name for these). Ingredients tasted pretty fresh, and seasoning didn't seem to involve too much MSG.

I like buying snacks as souvenirs, so I was glad to see they sell Beijing-style ones here that I know are vegan, unlike at other stores like Dao Xiang Cun.

Pros: Many vegan options, Many vegan local snacks, Comfortable decor

Cons: Service may not be attentive

Fully vegan restaurant and store

Food is simply amazing! "Chicken" Kung Pao, chicken nuggets, pumpkin buns are my favorite items. Pictures of all foods so is easy to choose. You can't go wrong here as everything is super tasty! And store downstairs is now fully vegan! They sell everything from packaged "meat" to desserts, everything perfect for taking on the plane back home. Not a touristy place so prices are low, food as it should be! Highly recommended!!

Pros: Fully vegan, Authentic Chinese food, Friendly staff

Very good and cheap

it's on the second floor of the shop. doesn't look great, but it's also not bad. The food is delicious with PLENTY of vegan options, and also pretty cheap, with many dishes around RMB 30 and only a few over 50. no english in the menu, but huge pictures of each dish.

Pros: LOTS of options, pretty cheap

Super vegan food!

On the street level there is a grocery store. When I walked in, the few people working there ignored me. But, when I told them in my poor Mandarin that I would like to eat dinner (Wo xiang chu wan fan), they became way friendly, and showed me to the back of the store, and up a staircase to the 2nd floor, where I had a fantastic vegan meal!

The menu has good pictures, and you can point. I got the greens with tofu, and it was very good. I also got the vegan fish, which was spectacular!

The tea is not on the menu, but if you ask for cha, they will bring you really nice green tea.

You can eat here for pretty cheap (about $7). But I went wild, and it cost me 135 RMB (about $20).

This is a fantastic place for really good vegan food!

Pros: fantastic vegan Chinese food, reasonably priced

Vegan food, delicious and good value

This is a cheaper vegan restaurant than many of the others around Beijing. The furnishing is basic, not as smart or cosy as many others. But the food is just as good. There is lots of choice but a smaller menu that many other vegan restaurants, but containing really good photos of the dishes. All in all, it's not the place for a romantic meal, but great for a basic, good vegan food.
Easy to find, but it doesn't LOOK like a restaurant and not obviously anything vegetarian. Just walk in to the vegan vegetarian supermarket below, which has lots of meat alternative products and vegetarian cooking ingredients.

Pros: Vegan, Cheaper than most, Down to earth

Cons: Basic furnishings, Relatively small menu

Mock meat in perfection - excellent restaurant upstairs

Excellent vegetarian restaurant upstairs of the supermarket. They serve a huge variaty of mock meat dishes, but also 'just' vegetable dishes. No English menu, but with pictures. They don't serve drinks except for hot water, but you can bring your own or buy it in the supermarket downstairs. All dishes we tried were super tasty. The sweet and sour dish was so good, that we ordered a second portion. The 'meat' was juicy with a crunchy crust. Highly recommended, if you want to try traditional meat based dishes in a vegetarian variant. Om the supermarket you can get mock meat in all variations, but also cake, instant soups (perfect for our train ride)

Best place in Beijing

This place has incredibly great food for such affordable prices. The upstairs of the bottom level faux meat store is a restaurant where everything is vegan. The menu is huge. We went 3 times in 4 days. Food is just too nice. Barely anyone ever there so great if you are a group or couple. Menu isn’t in English but has pictures of every dish and it’s all vegan!

Pros: Heaps of options, Cheap, Tasty

A store with faux meats

This little store is located on a market street with lot of stands, so it is easy to not track it. It has an entrance with big green letters.

They sells mostly vegan faux meats: "lamb", "duck", "squid" but has some chinese instant soups also, and a little selection of sweets. The sweets are typical for China, mostly dry cakes with some sesame or jam. If you ask for vegan ("chun su"), the staff inmediately understands you.

I was very happy to be able to visit this place and I left it with two bags of food. Recomended for everyone that pass by the center of Beijing

Pros: wide selection of mock meats

Cons: limited selection of sweets

Fantastic food. They do quite a bit of mock meats. Delicous. I’m going to bring some empty containers next time so that I can take some food away. Plenty of foods to buy to take away. Staff didn’t speak English. No alcohol. Bring your own. 5 minutes walk south from nearest subway station. Best food I’ve had so far in Beijing. I paid 68Y for two course and two soft drinks. About $11.

Pros: Lots of Vegan Food options. , Pictures of each dish and price. , Plenty of take away food to buy.

Cons: No English Menu, Staff don’t speak English , No cold Beer

Mock Meat Paradise

Wow, this place has the most massive selection of mock meats I have ever seen! There were things there that I could never have imagined, so I decided to try a selection & go back for more in a couple of weeks.
The staff don’t speak English, but when I showed the Chinese page from my vegan passport, they understood that I was looking for vegan food and were helpful. They even gave me lots of free samples after I paid for my shopping.
Some of the food had ingredients listed In English, while some didn’t. As well as the mock meats, thee are pot noodles, sauces, baked goods, etc. The food was not expensive, so I’m hoping I’ll enjoy it & can go back for more!

5 stars for the shop

Shop with a really wide selection of mock meats, also has pot noodles and some vegan baked goods.
Restaurant upstairs open 5-8pm , the food there was ok but not very fresh , and extremely salty and oily and rice was cold. We were the only people there, got the feeling it’s probably never very busy.

Decent Chinese vegan restaurant

Tried the spicy vegi pot by myself, and corn cakes. Quite large portion and a good variety of vegi. Good taste and will come back to explore more about its menu.
The vegan shop downstairs has some goodies too. Would recommend.(fair price)

Vegetarian/Vegan Supermarket and Restaurant

Was recently there for dinner and to stock up on some of the mock meat products. They have a very huge selection of vegan frozen and non frozen food in the supermarket plus loads of chinese pastries . After that i went upstairs for dinner. The first impression was not great i must say as the ambience of the restaurant is not really cozy. There was no windows in the restaurant and they have only a couple of tables. The menu is in English and Chinese and have pictures. So for those who can't speak any Chinese can order by looking at the pictures. Was pleasantly surprised when the food came as it look and taste very good. And some of the dishes like the ma la (sichuan styled ) fish dish on the first page of the menu. come in a huge portion . There was 4 of us and we ordered about 5 dishes and it cost less then 30 euros. Highly recommended.

Pros: Both supermarket and restaurant in one building, Big selection in the Supermarket, Food serve is very tasty and affordable

Cons: Ambience of the restaurant is not that great .

HUGE selection of mock meats

I'm so sad I never went before as it's literally around the corner from where I live. Has a massive array of different mock meats and fish. Lots of baked goods and Chinese snacks. Really affordable as well. The owner only spoke Chinese but was really nice and offered his help in case I don't find what I'm looking for.

Pros: Big selection, Affordable prices

Cons: Might be a bit off the track for most Westeners

Great for vegans

Whether you're living in Beijing or just visiting I'd highly recommend a visit to Beijing Zheng Long Zhai. I picked up loads of great vegan meaty snacks including ready to eat teriyaki mock duck, little individually wrapped soy meat snacks and even vegan meat floss! I didn't find any non-vegan products in the store but there are no ingredients on the baked goods so you'll need to ask questions.

Mock meat paradise

Although a bit trick to find and zero-level English communication, this is the best mock meat store I've found in China. They have a bit of everything for your daily Chinese vegan cooking fiesta.

I've been shopping there twice a year and highly recommend it to everyone.

Pros: Options, Price

Cons: Communication

Look for no3. sells lots of fake meat

Joined on to a regular convinience shop, look for No. 3, it has a green sign, but not in English. Inside there is a lot of products like fake meat and cheap vegan noodles, not all labelled vegan especially the cakes and biscuits. But you can try to ask in Chinese what's vegan!
A good place to stock up on bits.
