Ok food - Edit
We were really excited to try Blackie’s out since they have some pretty unique looking vegan offerings for a non-vegan restaurant. Everything was just OK. We got the vegan buffalo dip which was pretty good but very oily. The house chips were good, and I really liked that they had veggies for dipping as an option. I got a salad with a pineapple vinaigrette which was pretty underwhelming. Definitely not enough dressing (they serve jr already added in). My partner got the soy chorizo and tater tot tacos which was also pretty underwhelming. Beautiful restaurant and the portions are big. We’d possibly give it another try.

Knowledgable staff & great vegan meals - Edit
I got takeout. The hostess knew about the vegan meals and was telling us they were so good etc. nice that she was excited about vegan meals.
Read moreI got the vegan buff dip, eggplant, and taco entree with a side of violife mac and cheese. Everything was delicious. The takeout boxes were marked vegan. Everything tasted great and definitely tasted vegan in a comforting way. I didn’t have to worry about the mac and cheese for example, it tasted like violife.
Pros: Decent number of vegan options, Thoughtfully/creatively crafted vegan meals , Large portion sizes

Horrendous experience - Edit
Sat at the bar and had the vegan tacos which were ok. Ordered a vegan burger to go. Started eating the burger at home and it was meat. Been vegan for 10 years and vegetarian for 25. Brought the burger all the way back and the manager unbelievably argued with me over whether it was meat or not. Eventually got it refunded although they never admitted their mistake. The service at the bar was pretty bad as well due to one bartender who called everyone 'my friend'. I ate both of my tacos while I waited for a drink as the bartender forgot about me. Also way too expensive. I'll NEVER go back. Blackies is freakin wackies!

Best food in Providence for GF - Edit
Every time I have eaten here, the food has been far-exceeding expectations! They have a separate allergy kitchen, which makes me feel so secure in eating their food! As a person with a gluten allergy, they go above and beyond! Their chef is spectacular, and all of my vegan/ gluten free friends have loved it!

Pros: Separate allergen kitchen, Super accommodating
Cons: The menu changes occassionally

An experience. - Edit
Sit back and relax. Take a moment. Put yourself in the seat. We had reservations for 6. Walked up and were led to seats almost immediately. The place was packed. Wall to wall. Not a seat open. Pastel shirts a khakis shorts sat in half the seats, suburban reserved attire in the other half. Beyonce echos off the walls “YOU MUST NOT KNOW BOUT ME”. There are eight speakers in this room. They werent messing around. A modest two seat table in a back corner awaits. Shortly thereafter drinks order taken and delivered, Mineral water is the full big bottle with a wine glass. Nice. The tables a bit wobbly so the drinks are playing a game of chicken with a 30 inch drop. Theyre losing. But no worries i used the drink menu under the short leg and then it was smooth sailing. Pretty much knew what was to be ordered because i come prepared. Waffle fries to set the stage. They arrive relatively quickly. Crispy. Waffley. Potatoey. It was good. Nachos arrive as the the last of the waffle fries meet their fate. The table next door got the non vegan nachos and they were twice as tall and thrice as topped. If only we were all so #blessed. That being said the nachos are tasty and what you would want. Just a jr version of the unveg version for a decent markup. But they are good! Plenty of secret cheese at the bottom of the square nacho containment vessel. Honestly, at this point Im pretty full. I mean I may have left out the part where I had three or four of the Whisky glasses they serve soda in. Also 4 lemon slices. So Im going into round 3 already 75% full. The burger and pizza make their landing. Hot and ready. The pizza is larger and more substantial than most gf vegan pizzas you get at usual bar n grill type places. Nothing fancy and we were advised the kitchen may be weird about making changes, so any requests need to be cleared first. The veggie pattie lists jackfruit as the first ingredient, i was glad to find it more blackbean and potato-ish. Maybe its the yukka working overtime. Most toppings are not labeled vegan. So I went with ol tried and true ketchup mustard and pickles. They have a vegan chipotle, but i didnt go that route. The only bun labeled vegan was white bread. As reggae icon Snow shouts “LIKKY BOOM BOOM DOWN” I chomped in. It was substantial tasted homemade and had plenty of flavor. I am so sick of places offering beyond burgers like vegans and vegetarians are craving maximum meaty meat flavor to the max. Gross. This burger is what Im after.

Heaven! - Edit
I used to live in RI and didn’t go to Blackies until right before I left. I now go every time i come back into town. There are quite a few vegan options, and they are great about making something vegan if you ask. They also have a ton of gf options, incredible drinks, and their menu is clearly labeled with that’s vegan and gf. They have faux ricotta that’s locally made and sooooo good!

Fantastic vegan options - Edit
blackies was delicious! I got the tofu chorizo tacos and it was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten! My hubby also loved what he got (tofu chorizo bowl). Serving size was decent so we didn’t have room for a anything else. I can’t wait to go back to try their other vegan offerings!
