Separate fryers! Great service and food. - Edit
Vegan menu items are clearly labelled and the server and kitchen both confirmed they use separate fryers for the meat and non-meat options.

great place! best in hakone! great service, thanks to the wonderful people who work there. food is delicious, we had vegan burgers and banana shake. my little tip, i would try to make the patty in the vegan burger healthier, without adding much oil… REALLY tasty pickles

Read moreThere are 2 vegetarian options that can easily become vegan. Both options are very tasty (I preferred the teriyaki burger).
The staff is kind, speaks English and Japanese, and the menu is written in both Japanese and English.
The restaurant is decorated in a traditional Japanese style, and there is an option to sit on the floor on a tatami rug, recommended!

Decent sized burger, labelled as vegan on the menu if you swap to vegan cheese. I had the plain burger and my companion the teriyaki (all the same except for added teriyaki sauce). It was messy to eat, but wax papee holders were provided. The party itself didn’t have much flavour, but was cooked nicely (not too hard or mushy) and the bread and sauce were nice. We also had the fries (nice but didn’t come with any sauce) and the caramel banana shakes (labelled as vegan available on the menu), which were amazing. A recommended stop if you’re in the area. #Veganuary

They can make a lot of the menu vegan doe a small charge. The kitchen will make vegan sauces. The burger was delicious and the banana shake was very nice

Burgers in Hakone! - Edit
It's hard to be a vegan or vegetarian in Japan. Even harder in the tourist areas (Kyoto not included). So finding some decent options outside of 7-11 was a great shock (thanks, HappyCow). There were exactly zero restaurant options the last time we visited in 2014.

The burgers are soy patties, and I thought the texture was just right. It wasn't too hard or too soft. That said, the whole 'gourmet burgers' thing that is popular these days (in which the burger is quite tall with all of the toppings stacked and a knife or pick to hold it all together) made it hard to get my mouth around the burger! Thankfully I could press it all down and put it in the helpful wax holder supplied at the table.
Everything was delicious, and we were all satisfied. Our party was three meat eaters and two vegetarians, and we were all happy with what we'd got. The staff were very friendly and kind and talked with us as we ordered and explained the sides to us. We'll definitely come back. They also worked to make sure the kids with us were entertained, which we really appreciated.
Pros: Vegan Burgers!, Great sides!, Lovely service.
Cons: ¥1,900 for a burger might feel expensive

Okay vegan burgers - Edit
It's nice that they have a fully vegan burger. Most restaurants in the area have nothing, so this is rare! That said, the burger was just okay. The patty could be improved with a more umami flavor-- more mushroom? Shiitake? Or perhaps a bit of Kombu? Still, it was nice to enjoy a vegan burger in Hakone. I used a lot of ketchup. It was good.
