It’s just okay (Breakfast) - Edit
The staff was super friendly - the food came out quickly, especially considering how busy they were. But all three of us just really felt like it was all very “okay” and in the end we said there was nothing that would draw us back.
Read morePros:
Friendly staff
Nice atmosphere
We ordered:
Avocado toast
Breakfast sandwich without cheese
Breakfast sandwich with cheese
Dirty chai latte (iced)
Decaf pumpkin spice latte (iced)
They no longer have the vegan hash that has been raved about - but said they could do their best to make the hash vegan for us. The staff was really great!
The sandwiches were just so average that we agreed we like them better when we can make it at home. The potatoes were fairly plain…like salted potatoes. Sone were undercooked…and my potato loving 11yr old didn’t even finish them.
The avocado toast wasn’t bad, but the bread wasn’t really toasted…
My partner has been for lunch and said he’d enjoyed it - so we will go back and try again for lunch sometime.
Pros: Staff, Atmosphere
Cons: Just very average food

Highly Recommend - Edit
I got the black bean wrap without veganaise and with a side salad. It was a delicious, creative, and colorful dish (and great to see a bean-based option on the menu as opposed to the typical Impossible Burger)! It was a great place to go with omnivorous family members because everyone was able to get something they enjoy.

EXTREMELY DISSAPOINTING!!! - Edit
EXTREMELY disappointed!!!!! I'm not from the area and came only due to the Google reviews and veg options. I Googled and actually took an Uber here as I waited for my car to get serviced. I ordered an rish Coffee and French Toast with eggs. The Irish Coffee was okay, the French Toast was terrible! I would've made better myself. Immediately after my last spoonful, the server brought the check. I hadn't even gotten halfway through my drink and I told her I wasn't yet ready to leave and would likely be ordering something else. I asked if there was an issue with that and she said well the lunch crowd is about to come in. She checked on me 2 - 3 times and half an hour later I ordered a second Irish coffee... once again before I finished it, less than 30 mins later she comes back with the updated check saying that the manager stated there was a 2 hour time limit on the table. In all my years of traveling and living all over the world as a woman and minority, and spending lots of time in cafés solo I had never been blatantly put out of one or so openly been shown that I was not welcome! You best believe I will take my patronage elsewhere. I Immediately paid and left with a very bad taste in my mouth... food was mediocre, both bathrooms were filthy and service was terrible. What a disappointment!

Vegan options are remarkable - Edit
The service here is wonderful. They have options to sit at tables on the sidewalk patio, inside, or at the bar. We sat at the tables inside and at the bar.
Read moreWe visited Frederick and opted to return to Nola three times.
For breakfast - the vegan hash is quite good, but the vegetarian version of the biscuits and gravy is to die for.
For lunch/dinner - a Caesar salad with tempeh was very filling, and the Beyond Burger is done to perfection.
Enjoy a fun atmosphere and service.
Pros: vegan options, vegetarian options, atmosphere
Cons: meat on the menu, gets crowded at brunch

Never disappointed! - Edit
I've been coming here since I moved to the area 2 years ago and its remained my favorite bar. They have multiple vegan options, black bean burger, oatmeal, scrambled, BLT and you can add tempeh to a salad. All the employees understand how to make something vegan, so you dont have to explain it everytime you order. They've also been able to make me drinks before that normally have dairy and they have worked around it.

Veggie eats! - Edit
Quiant atmosphere and quality food. We ordered the buffalo culliflower (which comes with blue cheese crumbles and pickled celery). I ordered the steak and cheese which they use Tempeh for the steak. They also have delicious boardwalk style fries.

New Year, New Menu, More Veg-Friendly options! - Edit
I have always loved Cafe Nola; the tempeh BLT is my personal favorite but I wasn't a fan of the vegan scramble (happy to report the scramble is no longer on the menu). I was just there this past weekend, and found 3 new Vegan options on the menu (without any modifications!) and additional options marked on how to sub to make them vegan. I am excited to return to try their take on the impossible burger, and am happy to see a local restaurant that grows with their clientele. Keep asking for it and they will deliver!

Great food, "dear"! - Edit
I had my first Sunday brunch at Cafe Nola this week and it was really delicious. As others have observed, the vegan options are fairly limited - but what they do offer is great! I had the AGV Scramble (AGV stands for Actually Good Vegan) with tofu, peppers, onions, tomato, avocado, almond milk, fried kale leaves and crispy spinach chips - yum! And a beautiful and tasty soy latte as well. I thought it was funny and quirky that all the staff addressed me as "dear". The atmosphere is attractive and lively.

Nice, Funky Place for Veg + Non-Veg's - Edit
I usually dine with non-vegans so it's considerate to find a place to eat where we all have choices.
Read moreI ordered the black bean/veggie wrap and really enjoyed it. My non-vegan companion thought it was better than the turkey sandwich she ordered.
There are few vegan options but they are very good and they do change from time to time so you get variety. (Read other reviews to see that other vegan options had been reviewed -- options that I did not see.)
Pros: Good place to go with non-vegans/veggies, Great vegan options, Relaxed funky place in downtown
Cons: Limited menu for vegans

Great Drinks and Food in Frederick - Edit
Although there are admittedly limited vegan options at Cafe Nola, this restaurant is still a gem. The staff is friendly, there's a great drink selection, and lots of vegetarian options. I had the vegan BLT, a side salad, and a beer, and thought it was a great lunch. Very satisfying! I will definitely stop here again when I'm in the neighborhood. The only drawback is the restaurant is very popular, so it can be a bit of a wait for a seat. We waited ten minutes, but it was well worth the wait!

Good food in a great location. - Edit
Cafe Nola doesn't offer a ton of vegan options, but their vegetarian offerings are plentiful and it's a cute place to grab a bite when you're hanging out downtown. I agree with NIBsmf, the black bean burger wasn't quite seasoned to my liking. It had a very strong cumin taste, which I don't really care for. If you are a fan of cumin, you might really enjoy it. I'm fairly limited to what I can try at Nola, but their tofu scramble is tasty and the last time I was there I had a pumpkin spice latte (with your choice of soy or almond milk) that was delightful. It was probably the best pumpkin spice latte I've ever had. I'm not sure they have the stir-fry anymore, the last time I looked at their menu I didn't see it. Nola tends to be fairly busy at almost any given time, so service can be a little slow as a result and you may need to wait for a table to open up. My overall experience at Nola has been good, I would recommend it to friends.
