Mostly vegan cafe

They only have sweet bakes first thing in the morning and after 11:30 they will have all the rest of the menu, quiche, salads, sandwiches, etc. It’s clearly labelled on the menu only a handful of the options are veggie not vegan. Worth checking out at Somerset House!

Quiche was great. In the cold season it would be nice if they could heat up the quiche and potato salad to be more warming. I loved the salads with fresh stalks of dill, watercress and salad leaves at the bottom and then hispi cappage and orzo salad was top notch as was chilli broccoli and rice noodle. The tiramisu and banoffee were also divine. Servers, staff, and head chef were all lovely!

The location is amazing with Thames river views from the terrace or courtyard views or cute little urban oasis in the pedestrianised Strand out front with alliums, wildflowers and greenery galore.
The ice skating is beautiful and super festive.

Enjoyed it

Café Petiole isn’t fancy, its seated area is basic, small round tables and bistro style chairs, but the food is good and service is very friendly. The sandwiches were tasty and imaginative and the cakes superb! Will defo pop in for tea and cake when next in the area.

The flavours are just incredible!

I had the mustard mushroom brioche and an almond croissant and have previously had a cookie from here. When I came, everything was vegan apart from a beetroot and feta salad and cow milk for drinks.
The food is fresh, tasty and flavourful and much better than any of the coffee shop chains around here in my opinion!

Pros: Almost entirely vegan, Tasty, veg focused food, Good range of savoury and sweet options

Tasty food

Tasty and attractive food. Variety of salads, including beetroot (with non-vegan feta), harissa chickpeas, roasted purple sweet-potatoes with soy glaze, and endive & artichoke. The sweet-potato salad was delicious! Friends enjoyed the quiche and harissa chickpeas. I took away the mushroom mustard bun to have for dinner, and it was good and filling.
Staff was helpful and willing to move our foursome to a better spot. Small, round tables. High ceiling and full café at lunchtime make the sound volume high.

Best Basque Cheesecake!

What a wonderful spot in a historical setting. Almost everything is vegan and they have a great mix of sweet and savory options offering good value for its location. The Basque Cheesecake was outstanding! Creamy and decadent. The Almond, Fennel Seed and Morello Cherry Cake complimented it well. Highly recommended!

All good

Everything was just fine.
Nothing stood out to me as particularly inspired or special. Which is completely okay, and makes this place a recommendation for anyone.

Nice location and*mostly* vegan

Visited for coffee & cake on a rainy afternoon. Billed as ‘mostly’ vegan, and didn’t disappoint. Excellent selection of tasty sweet treats. Great coffee too 👍🏼

Munch Pastry

They only serve savoury food from 11.30am - which is worth knowing if you come here for opening on a Saturday as I did! Never mind, the savoury food looked good but I think that by being there for opening I got the real treat which was warm cakes, cookies and pastries not long out of the oven! I'd particularly recommend the orange/walnut/cinnamon sticky pastry, it was fantastic.

Great addition to Somerset House

New vegetarian cafe with only a small handful of non-vegan options opened by the same team behind Tendril! Some of the popular dishes from Tendril like white bean spread, tiramisu, cheesecake and banoffee pie are available there which is a nice way to try those items without going in for a full meal at Tendril. Great sandwiches and baked good offering. I really enjoyed the lentil roll, mushroom sandwich and pineapple galette, and the coffee is excellent! Lovely staff as well😄

Perfect food

I visited Cafe Petiole yesterday and loved it. I ordered a salad mix of two salads and a banoffee cream dessert for eating in and a pineapple pastry, tomato pastry and cheesecake for take away.
Every product was freshly prepared and very tasty. A perfect balance of herbs/spices with the savory products and sweetness with the sweet ones. I can recommend the cheesecake especially as it was the best vegan cheesecake I ever had 👌🏼

Pros: The assortment, Taste, Location

Cons: Not too many seating
