Est. 2014 originally as a vegan cafe and bar, but in 2016 was reported to have added dairy milk for coffee. Vegan hot drinks served as default; dairy must be explicitly requested. Serves daily dishes, plus bread and cake, coffee and beer. Breakfast items include pancakes, muesli, and scrambled tofu, served until noon on Fri and 2pm on weekends. Casual, home-like atmosphere. Open Mon-Thu 12:00-22:00, Fri-Sat 12:00-23:00, Sun 12:00-22:00. Kitchen closes 10pm.

Das Café Rost ist ein eher simpleres und alternatives Bistro in Mannheim. Zum aktuellen stand vegan und Kuhmilchnutzung kann ich nichts sagen.

Die streifen waren wie von einem Spieß tranchiert, die Würzung hätte etwas stärker sein können, der Geschmack wurde über das Fett transportiert. Die pommes waren mittelmäßig, die Soße hervorragend. Die recht großen und bitteren radicchioblätter hätte es nicht bedurft. Insgesamt ein guter, aber nicht der beste Dönerteller.

Good food and very helpful service. All dishes are vegan. Kumpir was unfortunately a little bit small.

Read moreI really like the selection of food they offer - a nice balance between healthy, fresh dishes like colorful salads and hearty comfort foods like Schnitzel or Döner. But everything is made fresh in house.
I especially was impressed of their ice cream 🍨
Also housemade, they use soaked cashews as base.
The flavor is rich and creamy, not a big fan of simple vanilla ice cream, but theirs definitely hits the spot!
You can even have a childhood momemt here and order a big portion of spaghetti-ice cream (not sure if this is a thing outside Germany, but that was basically a classic, or must to get as a kid in an ice cream parlor!). Not easy to get that in a vegan version!
The staff was very friendly, I also appreciated the ambience and the 90s HipHop-music in the background!

Mir hat es nicht geschmeckt. Geschmäcker sind natürlich verschieden. Allerdings waren meine Spätzle kalt. Der Temperaturunterschied innerhalb der Speise lässt vermuten, dass das Essen lieblos und unprofessionell in der Mikrowelle erwärmt wurde. Zudem kam die Vorspeise zeitgleich mit dem Hauptgericht. Das ist aus meiner Sicht auch ein klarer fachlicher Fehler.

Andere Leute haben sicherlich besser Erfahrung mit dem Laden gemacht. Ich kann natürlich nur mein Erlebnis bewerten und das war nunmal durchweg schlecht.

Café Rost is a great place: it has a relaxed atmosphere, it's affordable, and it's mostly vegan. They have savoury food as well as cake, there's no surcharge for soy milk, and - which is great - they even have vegan breakfast options now! I definitely need to go there more often. :)

mostly vegan dishes (clearly labeled), monday till thursday always a daily special vegan dish (7,50 Euro; posted once a week on their facebook page) and a changing vegan soup, friday + weekend different burgers. Always a little menu with "soy schnitzel", foccacias, salads. Homemade lemonades and different hot drinks , like matcha cappuchino, chai & curcuma latte.
