Massive portions - Edit
Chez Olga is a Haitian restaurant with a really unique wooden exterior and a cute small interior with seating. It’s pretty much a one-woman show, so be prepared for longer waits. You can choose from a spice level of 1-5.
Read moreThere are several vegan options on the menu that are clearly marked. The portion sizes are MASSIVE, and the food is well seasoned and delicious. We tried the vegan lasagna, the tofu Caribbean fried rice, the plantains with coleslaw, and the tofu gumbo. I’m not sure why the dish was called lasagna because it has no noodles - it’s potatoes mixed with veggies, but it was so delicious! The fried rice was also good, but the gumbo was the star. It wasn’t like southern gumbo, more like a spicy tofu curry served with white rice. The plantains are served green, flattened, and fried similar to Latin patacones but less crispy. The coleslaw was amazing and so spicy.
Pros: Huge portions, Lots of vegan options
Cons: Long wait times

Super tasty! - Edit
Super tasty restaurant run by a mother and daughter duo with great service. I enjoyed the pate, potato lasagna, and jerk pasta with tofu. Everything that can be prepared vegan is clearly marked.

Best Haitian in Grand Rapids - Edit
Chez Olga is hard to miss from the outside. It is housed in a floral woodworking of a building that is eye-catching a potential the most unique looking buildings in GR. Once inside, the more humble interior welcomes you to a plethora of mouth watering Caribbean food.
Read moreOffering many vegan options, Chez Olga strives to give a plant-based experience to quality Haitian food. I have had the vegan potato lasagna and the vegan curry. Both of them are incredible. I seriously do not understand just how they are able to make it taste so full and rich.
The staff is always friendly and willing to chat and make sure you have a good time. This is great for a leisurely lunch. Just keep that in mind that it also means the food takes a little longer to prepare, but it is worth the wait.
Chez Olga is a top tier vegan option in Grand Rapids. The locals know it’s a winner. Make sure to check out Chez Olga for a casual and delicious lunch.

Excellent Spot! - Edit
I went here in October 2021, so this review is long overdue. One of my favorite spots I’ve tried in Grand Rapids while traveling from Chicago to northern Michigan. Portions are sizable for reasonable prices, each dish is flavorful, and my brief chat with the owner/chef about vegan dishes was mighty pleasant. Absolutely worth giving a visit!

Excellent food! - Edit
Wow! The food here is unreal. I’ve never had Caribbean food before trying this place. I got the creole tofu dish and the flavors were complex and delicious. I can usually handle a normal amount of spice, so on the 1-10 spice scale I got a 4. It was VERY spicy so I’ll definitely get a 2 or 3 next time! Lots of vegan options, though not clearly labeled. The wait for our food was a little long but absolutely worth it.

5 STARS - Edit
Great vegan options. You get to choose your own spice level. I get the potato lasagna at a 6 and it is amazing. The fried plantains are super crispy and delicious as well. They do take away which is great too.

DELICIOUS!!! - Edit
Go go go go. Sooooooo good. The fried plantains, beans and rice, rice and spinach, veggie gumbo (coconut sauce is AMAZING), are all great. For extra yum get the corosol juice. It's so good. It's made from a fruit called soursop elsewhere in the carribbean and it's blended with ice. The kids I nanny declared it amazing -- somewhere between pear, pineapple, lichi, and a hint of mango. Seriously. Get it!
Read moreOlga is super friendly and awesome also!
Only caveat -- you choose your spice level on a scale of 1-10. At most places I choose "medium". This does not mean to order 5 at Chez Olga's! Three is the most I can handle!
Pros: Delicious, Friendly service
