Great dishes, exceptional service - Edit
I would describe this place as fine casual dining - as it delivers high quality dishes and offers highly attentive service.
Read moreWe came by right after having made the hike up Arthur's seat, so I had worried we'd feel a little out of place in our casual clothes & hiking boots. But despite the polished interior, most guests were dressed rather casual as well.
We especially enjoyed the starters, and while I felt the main dishes we had did not live up to that exceptional level of, they were still very, very good. Honestly the best meal I've had in Edinburgh so far!
Most of the menu was fully vegan to begin with, so I didnt get the feeling of missing out at all.

Amazing graduation celebration meal - Edit
My partner and I went to David Bann for a special post graduation meal. The food was amazing, delicous and beautifully presented. We had the black pappardelle, special tofu for starters, risotto and the summer salad with tofu and the vegan assiette desert for 2. We had the best spicy margaritas too 🥂🌶. They really have a special place here as everything from the setting (nice acoustics, lighting and comfortable seats), the attentive and knowledgeable staff who put you at ease but also leave you alone to enjoy the experience and the food is just so so good.

Another amazing veggie restaurant in Edinburgh with a lot of creative options. Also on the more expensive side but definitely worth it.

Exciting novel dishes - Edit
There were too many things to try. We opted to go for 4 starters and a side (similar price to two mains) and greater variety
Read more- haggis fritters: subtly spiced. Great texture and taste
- homemade pappardelle (partner ordered it as veggie, so can’t review. It is available as a vegan option though)
- lemon braised celeriac: good but didn’t blow my mind
- signature tofu: that dressing/marinade is to die for. I’ll be trying to recreate it
- chunky chips: cracking
Dessert:
- Earl Grey Pudding: such odd flavours but it absolutely works. Savoured it for a long time before it finally ran out :((

Superb meal - definitely recommend - Edit
We had a superb lunch here - food was absolutely delicious, and beautifully presented. It is fully vegetarian with at least half the options vegan. Definitely a bit of fine dining yet prices were good - we had the set lunch menu for £30ish which was excellent value for central Edinburgh. Really friendly staff. Smart venue but you don’t have to dress up at all!

Not a treat anymore - Edit
I used to love coming here for excellent food. The venue is still very attractive with muted colours and the staff were pleasant if innatentive.
Read moreThe quality of the food is what lets this place down. I felt it was unimaginative and bland. It's very much the kind of food I'd whip up at home if I didn't have time to cook properly. My Haggis fritters were like dry hard falafels and the vegan alternative came with a disappointing hummus. The chutney was interesting. My lemon celeriac didn't taste of lemon and lacked the melt in the mouth flavour I expected. The chickpeas served with it were really disappointing though the polenta was great.
The black pasta I had was nice but the tomato sauce was again just so basic.
I like to support vegetarian and vegan places but this was not a place I felt was a value for money or delicious.

Great food - Edit
Like many vegetarian restaurants, Bann’s cuisine draws inspiration from multiple geographical regions. In the past, I’ve found places like this often have plenty of choice but never truly master any one style. Bann’s is different. Not only is there a wide variety on the menu, but the quality is outstanding—high-end dining.
Read moreThe staff are attentive, and if you mention your dietary preferences, they’re quick to understand and accommodate. The atmosphere is relaxed, and I’ve taken people with all sorts of tastes here—nobody has left disappointed. There’s also a great wine selection.
If I had one small critique, it’s that the menu doesn’t change very often. As someone living in Edinburgh, I notice this, but for tourists it won’t matter—you’ll just be blown away by the flavours.
I’ve returned many times: for a light lunch of olives and bread followed by teriyaki tofu with udon noodles (delicious), for beautifully elevated vegetarian haggis, and for a celeriac starter that’s pure perfection.
Today’s visit was another winner—Charred Brassica and David’s Signature Smoked Tofu, both cooked to perfection and bursting with flavour.
Still fantastic food, still fabulous service, still a must-visit in Edinburgh.

Nice - Edit
More upscale than we realized when we walked in a bit dirty with three backpacks in tow 😂 but the staff was very kind. Vegan options clearly marked. We thought it was worth the stop but the food was just ok!! The dessert plate was interesting but I’d skip it next time. My partner thought the miso ice cream was delectable whilst I thought it was criminally terrible. The chocolate lava cake hit the spot though.

Definitely has improved for vegans - Edit
Hadn't been here for over a decade, always remembered it as being good for vegetarians but only having one vegan option, but it seems to be better now! Gnocchi starter and koftas were delicious. Cocktails were good too. I wasn't as impressed with the dessert, the cake was very dry.

Cocina tradicional adaptada - Edit
