Not vegan-friendly

I've been here twice with carnists. The food is tasty and I thought it could be my new neighborhood restaurant since Quesadilla Pilsen closed. The "menu vegano" includes many items with cheese. I thought OK, well maybe they mean vegetarian, and I carefully ordered items that did not have cheese in the description. The first time, we ordered the mushroom carnitas as an appetizer, which does not have cheese listed in its ingredients. When brought to the table it had cheese in the filling and on top. The second time, I ordered the tofu burrito, which also doesn't have cheese in the description, and I specifically asked for no cheese. Receipt says "no queso" by the line item, so the waitress put it in. And after taking a bite, what do you know - there was cheese in it!

I feel bad to give them a bad review. It is a small establishment, with one chef and one waitress/bartender, and they probably aren't doing so great since they've had a broken window for more than a week. But honestly it ruined my whole night. If you speak Spanish and feel like being very assertive, maybe you'll have a good time. But I just feel so tricked by a restaurant going out of their way to add a veg menu, and then stuffing cheese in everything anyway. It sucks, but I can handle going to a normal restaurant, explaining what "vegan" means, asking which dishes could be modified to remove animal products, etc. But the whole point of going to a place with a vegan menu is that you don't have to do that! They are supposed to understand already. After these experiences, I don't even trust this place to have beans without lard in them. I won't be coming back.

Taco Tuesday

Cute little place with a separate vegan menu. We went on Taco Tuesday so tacos were only $4 a piece. I ordered the fajita, tofu Al pastor, and carnitas de hongos tacos. They were all delicious.

Pros: Lots of options, Taco Tuesday , Unique flavors

Amazing flavors

This place has an amazing selection of vegan and vegetarian foods with flavors that took me back to Yucatán. So much flavor, and in such a great space.
