Not great, but good enough for one time - Edit
The vegetable tempura was the only option we saw on the menu. The place was highly recommended by Lonely Planet as a vegetable tempura restaurant, so I thought they would have had a lot of options.
Read moreThe food was tasty, but not remarkable. The sides were self service, and I am not very keen on self service in a joint like this.
They served a fujisan Weizen, which tasted like Weizen. It was okay, maybe the best thing about the meal.
All in all it did the job after a long day with a lot of walking. We went to the nearby Lawson to top it off with snacks and some more beer. It just wasn't enough and the price was quite high for what we got.
If you have can't find other option, this place might be good enough for you. I'd advice to look for other options first thought.

There’s no more vegan options! All the tempura batter contains eggs. And even for vegetarians, everything is fried on the same oil that the fish is fried

Saved our fakin’ bacon - Edit
Had a long day at the theme park and headed back to town to grab food elsewhere. Turned out they were closed 1.5 hours ahead of time. Showed up here, no wait, filled our bellies with tempura, edamame, rice and soba. Left stoked we found something that w could eat.

Not great, but did the job - Edit
We were really struggling for food in Kawaguchiko so came here. There was a bit of a wait outside, so grab a ticket from the machine inside the door if there's a queue when you arrive.
Read moreEverything was cooked in the same oil so this was at the limit of acceptability for our vegetarianism, but we were glad to find something. The Tempura was ok. The ordering system was pretty slick and you can help yourself to rice which might suit people with stricter diets if you're desperate.

No more vegan options on the menu - Edit
There aren't any specific vegan options. The tempura contains egg. The staff was able to help point out some options like edamame and cold soba noodles. But even the dipping sauce for the noodles contains fish sauce. Two stars because the staff was helpful.

Average, cooked in same oil as fish - Edit
The food was all cooked in the same oil including the seafood, and besides I personally did not enjoy it as it was oily (although an unusually pale type of tempura). Definitely don't eat the dip or miso soup as it contains fish based dashi.

Vegan tempura - Edit
Tasty vegan tempura prepared with very light batter - delicious and crispy. Served with rice (to be served on your own from a rice cooked by the entrance). I've been also offered a bottle of sauce marked "halal" (as they have halal options available as well) - but I'm not sure if that was vegan. The portion was quite generous too, perfect too fill you up before hiking around the area.

Pros: Crispy and light tempura, Generous portion, Well designed menu

Absolute must go. 10 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Edit
This is a very special restaurant and I can't rate it highly enough. The service is just outstanding.
Read moreI ordered the Vegetable Tempura with the Vegan batter.
The head chef came to deliver our food and I asked him if the Tempura sauce on the counter was Vegan and is explained it was not but he went straight to the kitchen and made me some Vegan Tempura sauce from scratch for free!!
He recommend some other Vegan seasonal vegetable options he had which I decided to go for. After that he asked me several questions about how Veganism is increasing and what would Vegans really like to see on a menu. He really seemed like he'd like to get in on that market and cater to Vegans more!
He was greatful for the information and gave me and my girlfriend a free service of Amasake each! (Sweet creamy rice wine)
The hospitality was so good and the food was so delicious that we decided to come back the next day for dinner too. He seemed pleased to see us again and after our meal he gave us another free service of some special NihonShu (Japanese rice wine/"Sake") and also Sour plum Tempura! We were so happy to receive such generous treatment we couldn't believe it!
I've never received such good hospitality in a restaurant before it really set the bar and I can't recommend it enough. The food is so delicious and rice, soba and soups are all you can eat. This place is Vegan Tempura heaven!! What a great place. They even cook the vegan Tempura in a separate kitchen.
Shame I can only give it 4 stars since it deserves 10!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Pros: Best service ever. Delicious. Rice is unlimited., Super kind head chef. Made us vegan sauce., A possibility of free services! (Alcohol ect.)
Cons: There was a non Japanese staff member that cudn't, understand me.

Great! - Edit
Only 1 vegan option but it was really good! Tempura mixed vegetables & unlimited rice. The menu was really easy because on the first page it says in English vegan and to 'point here' if you'd like eggless batter. The veg tempura is also clearly labelled. Unlike past reviews when we were there they did use a seperate tray to serve mine seperately from my husbands fish. They also cooked mine in seperate oil. I think that any restaurant that's not entirely vegan there is a high chance of a bit of cross contamination but I found that they made a real effort here

Vegan tempura and rice - Edit
The vegetable tempura is vegan as long as you mention that you’re vegan. One dressing is vegan too (onion) which isn’t labeled as vegan but the staff explained it was. Miso soup has fish stock so I think it’s easier to get a la carte veges rather than the set and buy a side of rice (which is all you can eat). It was tasty tempura and nice to have an option in kawaguchiko.
Read moreThe only thing that put me off was the girl working behind the counter threw the vegan tempura onto the same serving tray as my husbands non vegan tempura. Literally picked up in tongs and threw it onto the tray lol. Pretty sure they were cooked in separate vats of oil but what’s the point if they all get mixed together in the end anyway...
Pros: Vegan Tempura

Veg. Friendly?! - Edit
Tje tempura was really good but the brought it to the table on the same plate like the food from my non vegetarian friend, and I'm not vegetarien therefore that my vegetables taste like the shrimp lying above.

Communication was really hard, none of them was really able to speak English and in my opinion it's too expensive for the little amount of food you get.

Good selection of vegetables - Edit
The quality of tempura was really good, and they have plenty of different vegetables and mushrooms to choose from. Furthermore, there's also a rice and miso soup banquet for a tiny additional price. They also said that udon noodles are vegan, however, I definitely sensed fish broth in them. I came there after 25km hike in mountains so I ate everything anyway and now I'm trying to forget my suspicions.

Awesome Tempura - Edit
Randomly stumbled onto this restaurant while looking for something to eat and was not disappointed. Veggie options were clearly labeled and the tempura was very crisp and flavorful. I had the set veggie meal with rice, and then some daifuku to finish it off. I had a fantastic meal!
