Like Nonna's - Edit
But seriously, when I ordered calmari friti i thought of norna and then instantly thought how foolish that was. I sweater, God This is the best traditional Italian food and it's vegan. I was so happy and satisfied.I was like I was E in the mid 90's

Comfort food rather than fine dining - Edit
Good food, very hearty. We went for a wedding anniversary but it was more of a comfort food style than fine dining. Can't fault it, just be prepared and don't expect amazing cuisine.

Delicious Italian - Edit
All vegan menu-lots to choose from. Great entrees, starters, desserts. Something for everyone. Hubby ordered a risotto, I ordered pappardelle with mushrooms in a creamy sauce. Italian rice balls and bruschetta as starters. Friendly and prompt service. Really wish we would have had room for dessert-I saw a gelato, cheesecake, and tiramisu to name a few. Would definitely recommend. Indoor and outdoor seating in a bustling area. Get a reservation!

Special treat! - Edit
My partner took me here for my birthday and it was a lovely treat! We got a bunch of different sized dishes: olives, calamari, meatballs, pappardelle, gnocchi, meatloaf and chocolate cake because we can absolutely put it away and have heard others say serving sizes aren't large. We got through it all and were both stuffed. Honestly the serving sizes were just fine and we would have been fine with less but absolutely no regrets because everything was wonderful! Service was friendly and the venue itself is cosy and a vibe. Could be improved by a greater range of mocktails and other non-alcoholic drinks, but that's not really what we were there for so it's not a big issue. Get on it!

Expensive, small portions. - Edit
For a 20yr anniversary, despite booking, we got placed outside.

My wife (who isn't vegan) also agreed.
$21 for 8 pieces of "calamari"

Authentic Italian - Edit
Delicious and authentic Italian food with wonderful hosts. I had an amazing aubergine Sicilian pasta, and my husband had the gnocchi. The balance of bitterness and sweetness was perfect, especially paired with a tasty Pinot Gris. I went into a food coma and couldn’t try the tiramisu, but I’m already hoping to go back tomorrow!

Remarkable! - Edit
100% plant based, high quality Italian food and charming staff in an atmospheric restaurant.
Read moreWe had the calamari and polpette (meatballs) for starters, and then the lasagna (a ginormous piece!) and the pappardelle with truffle and mushrooms.
Everything was, for lack of a better word, perfect. I never had vegan calamari before and was amazed at both taste and texture , the meatballs were tender, the pasta was exactly right with the most delicious creamy sauce with perfectly dosed truffle, and lasagna and the accompanying ragu was a dream.
The tiramisu was the fitting end of this culinary success - creamy and sweet (not doused in coffee and liquor as you often get it).
Highly recommend!

High Quality Italian Quisine - Edit
My wife and I had the pleasure of dining here. The food was amazing, the chef has crafted vegan versions of Italian recipes which are comparable to any restaurant’s in flavour, quality and presentation. The service was also great.

Fantastic evening - Edit
The service was welcoming and attentive. The food was incredible. The calamari was the subject of much discussion, how it could taste like it does and be made from plants is just brilliant. Everything was delicious and we will be back!

Excellent Sicilian inspired vegan food - Edit
Fully vegan restaurant with very flavorful food and very friendly staff. They also have plenty of gluten free options. We had the meatloaf with tomato sauce, which I would highly recommend. They also have a nice wine list with Italian wines.

Vegan Italian, yes please! - Edit
The best place in Melbourne for a special occasion or anytime you want to drown in carbs. If it’s your first time you have to get the dish from which the restaurant takes its name, Pappardelle Funghi e Tartufo. It’s creamy and rich and so good.

Excellent dining experience - Edit
Every time I pass Hardware Lane I love the atmosphere, so was excited to find a fully vegan restaurant down there! The service was fantastic and the menu had so many classic Italian dishes that I never had the experience of trying before. I opted for the Carbonara which was tasty and a standout Tiramisu for dessert. My friend’s gnocchi was even better than the carbonara though I must say.

Bland and overpriced - Edit
I really don’t get all the positive reviews, especially those talking about creativity.
Read moreThe carbonara was bland and like something I made at home when I first went vegan, before I learned to cook properly and create yummy vegan dishes. The bacon was like what you get at Woolies/Coles and cooked til dry. The cream also tastes like a bland oat or soy cream for the supermarket. The meals would be okay for $20 or under at an Omni restaurant with some vegan options but not for $34 at an all-vegan fancy restaurant. Other dishes I saw looked about the same. No veggies on the side. Guess you could order it separately but not a tempting options when you’re already paying $34 for a bland pasta.
The calamari is okay, but small and overpriced.
Dessert was nice.
Our coffee orders also got mixed up.
Outdoor seating tmosphere is nice but you can get it at any other restaurant in that lane

Unique & creative dishes with loads of flavour - Edit
We had the calamari, arancini, swordfish & gnocchi. The calamari was crispy, chewy and full of flavour. The arachini was also crispy with a perfect coating of breadcrumbs and a soft centre and mushroom pate. These two dishes were some of the best I've had. The swordfish and gnocchi were really good, but not the best. Overall a pricier dining experience, however in my opinion it was worth it.

It looks like Tiggy reviewed this restaurant back in December 2021 when it first opened, commenting on both the calamari and panna cotta then (so opinion not based on photos)...maybe those dishes are better now? Great to see a fully vegan restaurant being well supported.
